I am not bothered about the reception Jose Mourinho gets from the Manchester United fans, I want to see what team he picks - because that will tell us whether he thinks he can go there and win, or whether he is thinking "let's not lose".

With Jose, it is usually the latter more often than the former, but I am actually going to go for a Spurs win.

    Prediction: 0-2

John Terry famously said he didn't want to line up against Chelsea in the final throes of his playing days because it "wouldn't feel right".

Tonight, he is back at the Bridge as part of the opposition.

The Villa assistant manager faces the Blues, where he is regarded as their finest ever captain having led them to countless trophies, for the first time (in an official capacity, at least) since leaving at the end of the 2016-17 season.

"He always said he would never go back and play against them and I’m certainly not going to pick him!" quipped Villa manager Dean Smith.

"I’m sure he’ll get an unbelievable reception. His mind has been solely on helping us to try and beat the club he loves."

  9. Team news - Abraham back for Chelseapublished at 18:35 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2019

Chelsea v Aston Villa (19:30 GMT)

Tammy Abraham's inclusion after a hip injury was said to be touch and go - but the game was given away when he walked off the Chelsea bus earlier with a beaming smile.

The England international starts up front instead of Olivier Giroud, one of five changes made by Blues boss Frank Lampard after Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by West Ham.

Skipper Cesar Azpilicueta, centre-back Andreas Christensen, central midfielder N'Golo Kante and winger Willian are the other players recalled.

Jorginho, Emerson, Fikayo Tomori sit on the bench alongside Giroud, but there is no spot there for Pedro.

    Chelsea

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith makes three changes to the starting XI from Sunday's 2-2 draw at Manchester United.

Right-back Frederic Guilbert serves a one-match suspension for accumulating five yellow cards and is replaced by Ahmed El Mohamady.

Trezeguet starts after Anwar El Ghazi jarred his knee at Old Trafford, while Marvelous Nakamba starts ahead of Douglas Luiz.

"We will go there and try to play our game, try to do well and try to come back with the three points.

"We know it won’t be easy, it’s never easy to play against United especially away but we have the team to do it.

"It will be an exciting game to play and hopefully we can come back from there with three points and keep going forward."

BBC Match of the Day commentator

The Vulnerable One against The Humble One?

Old Trafford chiefs keep reassuring Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. I hope they do give him enough time to rebuild a fortress there.

Eight home games unbeaten suggests he's slowly moving down the right track. But it's still their worst start to a league campaign in 31 years. A heavy defeat on Jose Mourinho's return will sharpen the blades of social media axe wielders.

We've seen Jose's charm offensive at new clubs before. But was he ever as happy at United as he seems now as he tries to become the first Spurs boss to win his first three top-flight games? They're playing to their strengths. They're winning again. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see that run continue.

  20. Grealish for England?published at 18:26 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2019

    Jack GrealishImage source, Reuters

It's not only Jack Grealish's Peaky Blinders/80s synth pop-infused barnet which has been catching the eye this season.

The Villa talisman has been his boyhood club's creative force on their return to the Premier League, with no English midfielder being directly involved in more goals than the seven (three goals and four assists) he has created.

That has led to growing calls for him to be given international recognition by England boss Gareth Southgate and another impressive performance tonight on the turf of one of the big boys will only lead to more shouts.

BBC Sport's Alistair Magowan has been analysing what Grealish would offer the Three Lions.
