Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard on John Terry's return to Stamford Bridge: "The fans will certainly show their appreciation and I'm sure it'll be pretty emotional for John. He deserves that moment and I will certainly be pleased to see his face back at the Bridge.

"We're in touch but not in the last few days. We are pretty regularly in conversation, but we are obviously both focused on our jobs. He's working hard there to get results, as are we here. It will be nice to catch up."

  4. What awaits Mourinho on Old Trafford return?published at 18:19 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2019

Jose Mourinho travels north with a Tottenham side re-energised since the departure of Mauricio Pochettino on 19 November, with three wins from three games.

In contrast, his old club are at a low ebb. When he walks into the visiting dressing room he was responsible for reducing in size during his time at the club, Mourinho will be preparing to meet a United side that are 10th in the table having won just four league matches this season and heading for their worst league finish since 1990.

So, who has benefited most from Mourinho's United exit? And what should Spurs fans be wary of if they look back at the Portuguese's time at Old Trafford?

Remember when everyone joked about Jose Mourinho living in a hotel in Salford when he was Manchester United boss?

Are these quotes making anybody else think 'actually that sounds quite good'?

"I would be unhappy if I was in a house on my own," he said.

"I would have to clean, I don't want. I would have to iron, I don't know how to. I would cook fried eggs and sausages - that's the only thing I can do.

"I lived in an amazing apartment, it was not a room. It was mine all the time. It was not like after one week I had to leave.

"I left everything there, I had my television, my books, my computer. It was a flat, with, 'bring me a coffee latte, please', or 'I don't want to go down for dinner, bring my dinner up'.

"I was watching football or doing work with one of my assistants I would ask, 'bring us food'.

"I had everything, if I was in an apartment alone it would be much more difficult. I was fine, more than fine."

    Liverpool v Everton (20:15 GMT)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Everton could sink into the bottom three of the Premier League tonight, leaving Toffees manager Marco Silva under even more pressure.

Former Toffees assistant manager Steve Round, who helped David Moyes lead the Merseyside club to a string of top-eight finishes, spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live earlier today about their plight.

"It's a massive pressure game for Marco Silva. I felt so much for him at the weekend when that Leicester winning goal went in right at the death. it sucked the life out of him. Whether the board will make a decision after this or after the weekend we will wait and see. He has got a chance to get a result tonight and at the weekend."

It feels like almost every manager in the Premier League is a few defeats away from the sack at this stage of the season.

There are just six points between Everton way down in 17th and Spurs in sixth. Every win counts.

The FA Cup third-round draw has given Everton two chances in a month to end their wait of over 20 years for an Anfield win. That's the optimistic take.

Realism suggests that Marco Silva will do well to be in charge by January's cup tie, and he might even have to inspire his team to win this one to make the weekend. They certainly played for him at Leicester, but this is a different proposition - even if Liverpool aren't at their very best.

The Reds are still winning, relentlessly, and their next will be Jurgen Klopp's 100th in the Premier League. Even just a draw here would be a club record 32nd top-flight game without defeat.

Better than Bob Paisley managed. Better than Bill Shankly. Phenomenal.

Ole Gunnar Solskjer: Sackings "don't make me any more concerned"

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says the recent sackings in the Premier League have not left him "more concerned" about his position.

Today's opponents dismissed Mauricio Pochettino in November, before Arsenal sacked Unai Emery and Watford parted company with Quique Sanchez Flores.

United are ninth in the table with 18 points from 14 league matches, their worst start to a campaign in 31 years.

"It's that time of year. It's never nice to see your colleagues lose their jobs - now three in a very short space of time," added Solskjaer.

"It doesn't make me more concerned.

"We have had too many draws for my liking - defeats as well, but draws we should have turned into wins.

"Football is a results business and we're not happy and know we should do better."

You win or you learn, you don't lose. It was good because we managed to win some nice things. But on the opposite side I learned and I feel that I'm a better coach now than I was then. The important thing is after you are sacked you don't blame. You try to prepare for the future by analysing what happened in the past.
