  1. 'Bruce has nullified Sheffield United'published at 21:07 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-2 Newcastle

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Steve Bruce's tactics tonight have nullified what has been a real strength of Sheffield United's this season with the overlapping centre-backs. They just haven't had the space to run into and Newcastle have capitalised at the other end.

  2. Postpublished at 21:07 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-2 Newcastle

A cross from the left is half cleared and Blades sub David McGoldrick meets it on the volley - skies it! Top tier job.

    Into the last 10 minutes.

  3. 'Brighton have not been under too much pressure'published at 21:06 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Arsenal 0-1 Brighton

    Matthew Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Brighton have been the better team, controlled possession, created as good chances as Arsenal. It's just not happening for Arsenal, they are not being sensible.

They have to get Aubameyang isolating Dan Burn - he would have him on toast. It's just a poor performance at the moment from Arsenal.

I've been really impressed with Brighton, the manager has set them up well and they have coped and not been under too much pressure.

  4. Postpublished at 21:05 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Arsenal 0-1 Brighton

    Warren Aspinall
    Ex-Brighton striker on BBC Sussex

That was the most dominating first half performance from an away side. Arsenal look fragile and they are there for a beating. Albion just need to be more ruthless.

  5. Postpublished at 21:04 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-2 Newcastle

Newcastle have scored with both of their shots on target of this game, with Shelvey's 70th minute goal their first shot on or off target since Saint-Maximin opened the scoring in the 15th minute.

  6. Postpublished at 21:04 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-2 Newcastle

The home fans are not happy at all, they weren't before that goal and their opinion of the officials certainly hasn't improved. It was the correct call, mind.

  7. 'That's what VAR is for'published at 21:03 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-2 Newcastle

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

We've spoke many times about whether VAR is adding or taking away from the game but that's exactly why it came in or Newcastle would have had that goal taken away from them when he was clearly onside.

Great credit must go to Stuart Attwell too for just following Jonjo Shelvey as he ran forward and slotted it into the net as the Sheffield United players stopped.

  8. HALF-TIMEpublished at 21:01 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Arsenal 0-1 Brighton

A fair few boos come down from the stands. Arsenal have been limp.

  9. 'A terrific night for Andy Carroll'published at 21:01 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-2 Newcastle

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Andy Carroll won a big header in the Sheffield United box about 30 seconds before the goal and I knew he was about to come off and I was wondering if Steve Bruce and Newcastle could do without him winning those headers for the rest of the game. But, then he won an even bigger header to lead to the goal.

It's been a terrific night's work for Andy Carroll.

  13. 'Henderson has got it so wrong'published at 20:59 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-2 Newcastle

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

They've just shown the VAR on the big screen for everyone to see.

It's clearly onside and every Sheffield United player just stopped. Dean Henderson doesn't put much effort in either. He's got it so wrong letting that happen.

  14. goal

GOAL - Sheffield United 0-2 Newcastlepublished at 20:58 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Jonjo Shelvey (70 mins)

    A farce. VARce.

Justice has probably been done there as Jonjo Shelvey was onside but that does not look good for anyone!

    A bizarre, bizarre goal.

  15. VAR

Video Assistant Refereepublished at 20:57 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-1 Newcastle

VAR is looking at this. Everyone stopped and Jonjo Shelvey was all alone to walk it in pretty much...

  16. Postpublished at 20:57 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-1 Newcastle

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Everyone on the field just stopped. Even the goalkeeper didn't really try to save it.

  17. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 20:57 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-1 Newcastle

Now then - Jonjo Shelvey runs on to a nod on and scores, everyone has stopped as he looks offside.

But I don't think he was you know! This could be interesting!

Get Involved #bbcfootballpublished at 20:56 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Arsenal 0-1 Brighton

Matt HCK Williams: Without Lacazette and Aubameyang, Arsenal would be hurtling towards the relegation zone. Years of mismanagement has led to this wretched situation. Tough times ahead for Arsenal.

Max: Oh! I'm really being impressed by Brighton and Hove Albion performance this season even though they lost some games but about possession its really good. Good goal for Webster.

  19. Postpublished at 20:56 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-1 Newcastle

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Andy Carroll has done well defensively but when Newcastle win the ball back they've got no option to get in behind the high Sheffield United defensive line.

  20. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:56 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Arsenal 0-1 Brighton

Arsenal should be level! Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang cruises past Dan Burn out on the wing again and stands up a great cross but Joe Willock can only head it at Mat Ryan, who saves with his feet.

    Big chance.
