'Hey Jude' booms out of the Amex PA system as Conor Coady leads his Wolves side into the very spacious tunnel. I bet the Scouser is doing a little 'nah, nah, na, na, na, na, naaaa' in his head.

    BBC MOTD commentator

Brighton will be buzzing after their memorable win at Arsenal but the Seagulls must now show they can deal with Thursday-Sunday football as well as their opponents have done all season.

Wolves have qualified for the knockout stage of the Europa League with room to spare, and the midweek win over West Ham took their unbeaten run to 10 league games.

If they avoid defeat it will be their longest undefeated streak in the top flight since an 11-match run 57 years ago.

Albion will have had 24 hours fewer to recover and prepare for this game against opponents who have taken 10 points on the road this season, a record bettered only by the top four before the latest round of matches.

Right, we're going to leave those three matches in the rearview mirror for the moment. Time to stick our foot on the gas and motor down the M23. Brighton awaits...

    Leicester City

Leicester's mantra of refusing to admit they are the only side left who are capable of catching Liverpool comes from the very top. Here's chief whip Brendan Rodgers...

"We will just concentrate on playing as well as we can and with a performance level as high as we can," says the Foxes boss.

"Wherever we are in the table we always look to chase the team in front of us, we look for us to keep pushing, keep fighting and keep developing. We will always do our best."

  5. 'Big Andy like the Big Andy of 10 years ago'published at 16:19 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2019

    Newcastle 2-1 Southampton

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce, speaking to MOTD: "In the first half we looked like we had played three games in six days. I felt we were flat and it was not really until we changed things at half time and went higher up the pitch we caused them so problems. They stuck at it, they showed a bit of spirit.

"The introduction of Big Andy had glimpses today of what he had 10 years ago. He looks well at the moment. Big Andy Carroll coming on was a huge help."

On difficult start following some reaction to his appointment: "They stuck with the team too. In the first half we didn't give them much to shout about but they stuck at it. We have just been quietly going about our job and I am delighted with the response."

  6. 'Beating record is something special'published at 16:17 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2019

    Aston Villa 1-4 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers on his team's club-record eight successive top-flight win: "I thought they were amazing, it is a historical day for the club and the performance warranted that.

"It really does mean something special, it puts the team in the history books of Leicester City.

"We had to work for it, it was a tough game and we played with a lot of quality and hunger. A brilliant win.

"We were very good, we played a diamond for a period of the game and worked well for us.

"With a better final pass we could have had one or two more goals. Villa got some encouragement just before half-time but we had to stay clam and keep doing what we were doing.

"We scored all types of goals today and kept going to the end and tried to keep scoring goals."

  7. 'Harsh words at half-time'published at 16:14 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2019

    Norwich 1-2 Sheffield United

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United's George Baldock speaking to Sky: "We're an honest bunch and we don't need much telling, but there was a good reaction at half-time.

"We've come into the season full of belief and confidence. We got written off before a ball was kicked but we're doing ourselves proud."

Team-mate Enda Stevens, on his goal, added: "It was a great ball in, we've been at it all season and the manager has been on at us about getting into the box more. Today we managed that.

"That first half performance wasn't like us. We got the harsh words at half-time and he [manager Chris Wilder] got the reaction he needed."

Newcastle's Federico Fernandez: "The three points mean a lot for us. Everyone is happy. We are working hard to keep our shape. We feel OK, we took our chances. Great points.

"We need to enjoy this period and build a winning mentality. You never know where we can arrive at the end of the season but we take it game-by-game.

On his goal: 'We felt that space from a corner could have been exploited, we always look for where we can capitalise against certain teams.

'We worked on it yesterday but James Maddison put it even better for me. I don’t get many goals so it is nice."

On challenging for the title: 'We are up there and it shows we are playing well. Our performance was good, against one of the best Villa teams I faced in years.

'It shows we are capable of coming away and getting results. It is nice people are talking about us, we’re enjoying it and there’s great spirit in the club."

Going back to Jonny Evans... how much are Manchester City ruing not signing him? Towering again today. If City, lacking a leader in Vinnie Kompany's absence, had him this season...

Their loss is certainly Leicester's gain.
