What a mad night of football.

It was pretty rubbish for an hour. Well, Arsenal were. And then in a flash everything is grand (well, maybe not everything).

The Gunners have broken their winless run, West Ham have some big decisions to make.

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini has just done his post-match press conference.

In it, the Chilean said 'football is about results'. To a different question: "If you are the manager, you have the responsibility."

But he says the West Ham fans are still behind their team. "This stadium is always full. If the fans were not behind the team, the stadium would be empty."

Arsenal

Arsenal interim boss Freddie Ljungberg, speaking to BBC Sport: "The players have belief and tried to move the ball with more tempo. West Ham got tired. The players ran their socks off and fought. I believe in them. When I could see them put their shift in I could see the quality. I thought 'it is here for the taking'.

"Martinelli did amazingly. He is like a Duracell battery, he keeps going. Laca (Alexandre Lacazette) is a tremendous player but I had to make a tough decision.,

"We have a lot to work on. A lot of things to fix. They have been under a lot of pressure but had the mental strength to win.

"I tried to keep calm and see what was happening on the pitch. They sorted it out themselves. It is amazing what they did today. I just want to enjoy the day and then get to work tomorrow."

West Ham United

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini, speaking to BBC Sport: "For 60 minutes there was just one team on the pitch. But football can be like this.

"We made mistakes in moments of defending. The problem was a lack of patience and quality to decide the game with a second goal and we made important mistakes in defence.

"The pressure for me is exactly the same if we win or lose. When you don't have results things are more difficult. If I had not seen the team play the way they did in the first 65 minutes, I might have doubts [about his ability to turn things around].

"After Southampton at the weekend we have a break. We must try to recover as quickly as we can and we must try to win those three points."

Arsenal

Arsenal interim manager Freddie Ljungberg, speaking to Sky Sports: "It means so much for the players. They have been living under enormous pressure and you see it in their performances. I could feel West Ham getting tired and our passing getting crisper. The boys did amazing.

"The players responded to the early setbacks and dealt with it. We tried to play and the boys stepped up in the second half. They worked so hard and that's something we talked about.

"This is down to the players. I'm just there to guide them.

"You can see the players have been a bit low and you see in the dressing room the relief and how happy they are. We enjoy tonight and we continue working tomorrow. We have to work on our belief - that was the difference.

"It's a great feeling and it's a lot better to win than lose. We shouldn't get carried away."

On goalscorer Nicolas Pepe: "Nicolas is an amazing footballer. It's not easy to come here from the French league. He worked his socks off and he will get better and better."

West Ham United

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini, speaking to Sky Sports: "It is difficult to understand. We dominated the game for 60 minutes and then lost the game. We didn't score the important second goal.

"You must understand the boos (from the fans) because the last five games we played here we didn't win. If you don't win at home your fans cannot be happy.

"You cannot concede three goals in every game. Unfortunately for us we are doing the wrong things. We are not in our best moment but need to keep fighting.

"We must play 90 minutes instead of 60 minutes like we did today. We must be solid all game. It does not depend on me what happens (with his future)."

Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil told Sky Sports: "Especially in the second half, we showed what we can do on the pitch if we believe in ourselves. We deserved to win and we are now happy, especially for our supporters."

On goalscorers Gabriel Martinelli and Nicolas Pepe: "We are happy for them. We know they have the quality they showed today and we are happy they scored important goals for us. We will continue fighting hard to reach our goal for the season."

On the new manager: "He was a football player and he understands us as players. he has already shown his quality as a coach and we are thankful we have him. Today was a successful day for him and us. It is always hard for the club to change the coach. Freddie is a young coach and he is always there for us, which is what we need."

For 50/55 minutes, Arsenal were so bad. It was as bad a performance I have ever seen. Then we saw Granit Xhaka turn his back on the ball. Then out of nothing, Gabriel Martinelli gets the goal, the second goal was brilliant and then Aubameyang scored. There was a sharpness to their play and it was like having the old Arsenal back.

I would not get carried away. I think Freddie does not carry enough clout to get the job full-time and I think Arsenal need to get someone else in. If we are honest, they did not play great, they had a period and West Ham folded.

Arsenal

Arsenal striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang told Sky Sports: "We feel good. I think we played well in the second half so we are happy to win this game. We tried to put some tempo in the game and to play fast and find spaces, and we did that.

"At half-time, Freddie [Ljunberg] told us to play with a higher tempo. It was tough but we have the quality in the squad, and if we believe in ourselves, we can go forward and win games. We will take this second half as an example for the rest of the season."

West Ham United

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, speaking to Sky Sports: "That pretty much sums up our 16 games. First half we went 1-0 up and were frustrating them. Then second half they score two in six minutes. It is frustrating. We've missed a chance to move up the table.

"It is heartbreaking. We are in the rubbish at the moment. When one goes in we need to learn to keep our heads up. They have great players but they are all preventable goals. We need to look at ourselves. We are making the same mistakes. We are playing good football as well but making too many mistakes.

"We have to win our home games. It is horrible to hear the boos. We want to make the fans happy. But we have lost big games here. Now is the time to stay together. Games come thick and fast and we need to regroup.

"The manager is great, the players love the manager. We work hard all week and sometimes you wonder why we can't transfer that to the pitch."

From disaster to triumph. It was floundering Freddie in the first half and now it's fabulous Freddie. Arsenal were bereft of confidence and had no energy, and then they got the goal from absolutely nowhere and then they fancied it.

The second goal was a wonderful finish and then they carved West Ham open for the third. It was game over and Arsenal saw the game through.

Aleksander: West Ham have got themselves to blame unfortunately. Capitulated way too easily and didn’t regroup and get back in the game. Wonder if this is the turnaround for Arsenal?

Jon: Pepe smiling, Xhaka grinning, Ozil spraying around passes, Freddie hugging players, Martinelli scoring; all hail Arsenal - the new invincibles.

Arsenal have come from a half-time losing position to win a Premier League away game for the first time since October 2011 (5-3 v Chelsea).

Now that is monkey to get off their back.

As happy as Freddie Ljungberg looked at the end, Manuel Pellegrini looked lost.

You never want a man to lose his job, but Premier League football is ruthless to those who fall short of the high expectations of its clubs.

The Arsenal players are off into the away end to dish out their shirts and lap up applause.

Amazing really. If they'd tried that at half-time they'd have been lucky to get out alive.

Freddie Ljungberg punches the air and gets a huge roar. It's not quite Duncan Ferguson wild-eyed lunacy, but it'll do.

Cheers from the Arsenal fans, boos from everywhere else.

Bonkers game, but Arsenal won't care. Awful for 60 minutes but clinical for nine and they end their horror winless run.
