  1. Postpublished at 55 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Arsenal

It gets worse. Granit Xhaka attempts a cross-field ball that is as lazy as you will see - straight to Robert Snodgrass, who drives forward before seeing his shot deflected behind.

The resulting corner causes chaos in the box and the Gunners are lucky to get away with a lack of courage in their challenges as the ball fires behind off a West Ham man.

The player turning their back to a challenge? Xhaka.

  2. Postpublished at 52 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Arsenal

Pepe momentarily looks like he might have a sight of goal, but out comes a foot from Fabian Balbuena to poke the ball behind.

Ozil delivers the resulting corner but can't beat the first man before Lucas Torreira follows up and lashes an effort well wide.

  3. Postpublished at 51 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Arsenal

The free-kick following the foul on Pepe is chipped in by Mesut Ozil but straight to a West Ham head. A waste.

That was wild by Aaron Cresswell who goes straight through Pepe. In my day, that was called a 'marker'.

  6. YELLOW CARDpublished at 50 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Arsenal

Oh that's a nasty one. Aaron Cresswell goes right through Pepe and gets himself a booking. A deserved one at that.

Looks like the West Ham player has injured himself doing it as well.

I don't know what to say. I don't want to be overly harsh but some of these Arsenal players are shot. Sokratis attempts a ball down the left and sends it straight out of play. It's woeful.

These are professionals. Internationals, most of them. They're clearly really good at football. But something is very wrong.

  8. 'Worse than under Emery'published at 21:06 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2019

    West Ham 1-0 Arsenal

I would be shocked if we do not see a reaction from Arsenal in this second-half. They are worse now than under Unai Emery.

  9. Postpublished at 46 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Arsenal

Snodgrass swings the ball in, an Arsenal head nods it away and Noble blasts a shot over the bar.

I hate to do this, but I think it is pretty clear that Freddie Ljungberg is not going to get the Arsenal job full-time. Not all his fault - this was a hiding to nothing for him.

But who can come in and perform the kind of job the Gunners need? Salvage this season and then build from there.

Right everyone, move away from your computer screen for a moment, put your mobile phone down for five minutes, go have a quiet moment and dust yourself off.

There's another 45 minutes of this and somehow we need to get through it. If we stick together I reckon we'll be OK.

  15. 'Floundering under Freddie'published at 20:55 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2019

    HT: West Ham 1-0 Arsenal

    Chris Sutton
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Arsenal have been so lame and limp. There seems to be very little enthusiasm. There was a lot at stake tonight and they have been floundering under Freddie.

It's a huge second half for him and his team. West Ham have been more hungry and they deserve their lead.

  16. Postpublished at 20:52 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2019

    West Ham 1-0 Arsenal

There will undoubtedly be people out there - Gunners fans for a start - who can correct me, but I'm not sure I can remember watching a worse half of football from Arsenal.

I certainly can't remember the last time I saw them so directionless.

Nick: Yellow shirts, dark shorts... this is Watford, not Arsenal, right?

Noel: Ogbonna got it because he wanted it more...which pretty much sums up Arsenal tonight!

  18. HALF-TIMEpublished at 45+3 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Arsenal

Not a good game, but West Ham lead it having been marginally the most productive of the two sides.

That a Hammers side so bereft of confidence and not playing particularly well are ahead tells you all you need to know about the limp nature of Arsenal's display so far.

  19. 'Tame'published at 20:47 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2019

    West Ham 1-0 Arsenal

    Chris Sutton
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has had very little, if any, service. This is such a tame Arsenal team.

West Ham have been braver and sharper. I can understand why people might question the Arsenal players' desire. Have they really put a shift in?

Freddie Ljunberg looks perplexed and he doesn't know what has hit him.

  20. Postpublished at 45 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Arsenal

Aubameyang tries to do it all on his own, picking the ball up and driving forward but his shot, when it comes, is wild. It flies well wide and very high of goal.

This after Snodgrass had tumbled in the box at the other end, looking for a penalty that was never going to come.
