Brighton forward Alireza Jahanbakhsh speaking to BBC Sport about finally scoring his first goal for the club: "It has been a long time coming and I didn't make minutes but I have been waiting for this time for a long time.

"Before the match I had a great feeling because playing well and I'm glad to help us win the game.

"Obviously it was an emotional moment for me, I had ups and downs last year, trying to settle. This season it felt good with the new manager, he wanted to use different players, but I've been doing well in training and ready for my chance.

"It is always a great feeling and I'm pleased my firs goal in the Premier League came like this. Last year I knew there were a lot of expectations and last season the stats were not the best for me, but I've been training every day, training hard and took my chance.

"It took longer than expected and I'm glad to score. It couldn't be any better and it is one of my best days since I came to the club.

"Since day one I've had a good relationship with the boys and I'm glad they were happy with my goal."

I was really worried for Southampton but I am glad that they are clawing themselves out of it. There's still a lot of work to do, though.

Bournemouth captain Steve Cook, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think they wanted it more than us. Fair play to them, I thought they were good. We didn't compete or take our chances and a second goal killed the game. When you concede in the first five minutes it's an uphill battle, and we never really got going.

"Second half from front to back we were really poor. We had no rhythm, couldn't string three or four passes together, and then when we were down to 10 men chasing the game it's tough. It wasn't good enough and we have to look within ourselves.

"The lads who are fit have to pull something out of the bag. Injuries are a huge factor. But it's not an excuse. We were flat today and poor. Maybe we don't realise what's at stake. We have to show our nasty side, grind out results.

"The two teams were worlds apart today. Something has to change. The game after Xmas disappear. Individuals have to step up and especially the leaders. It's not down to quality but how brave enough people are going to be to want stay in this league."

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe speaking to Sky Sports: "No complaints about the result. I thought we took time to settle into the game, we were not at our best, we conceded an early goal, and then the rest the of first half was better.

"The second half wad tough, we were not at our best with the ball. Then when we got down to 10 men (because Jack Stacey went off injured after all three substitutions had been made) it was tough.

"We could not get any exerted pressure and going down to 10 men it was very difficult from that point.

"We were slow out of the traps, we conceded a goal which gave us a mountain to climb, but we recovered and should have scored."

I don't think he will have. I think he's old school and he'll have gone in with the old school approach. I think he'll give some of the players a rocket. He's got them organised but that's not necessarily enough to get them out of it. I think he'll tell people how it is, you've got to down at that part of the league. I don't think he'll change.

Rob Parsons: Anyone thinking Eddie Howe should be sacked simply doesn’t understand what he means to AFC Bournemouth. Any club outside the top six with this many injuries would be in the same position. World class players don’t want to warm the bench for mid table team.

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Rafa Benitez did a great job at Newcastle. He had a style of play, let's be honest, he was very good at it. Steve Bruce has come in and experimented with formation and wanted to play on the front foot a lot more, but he's realised after two games that these players are good at one style and he went back to the style that Rafa played.

A lot of people have criticised Steve for the way they play, but it's basically the same as Rafa. Rafa was branded a genius while Steve has been critcised. He's done a marvellous job.

    FT: Brighton 2-0 Bournemouth

    Steven Reid
Former Blackburn midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

It's a huge win. Brighton look like a team full of confidence. What they've shown today is creativity in the final third. Aaron Mooy was fantastic today, definitely man of the match.

Bournemouth looked flat and like they were lacking confidence. They looked leggy after their game on Boxing Day.

Jack Grealish will be key for how Aston Villa are going to progress. There will be rumours about if he's going to leave, I don't think he will before the end of the season. He's so key to how Villa play.

Danny Ings is back in the starting line-up for Southampton and Troy Deeney starts for Watford. Tyrone Mings and Keinan Davis don't make the Aston Villa squad despite hoping to be back in contention.

Kyle: This Bournemouth side are in free-fall. Eddie Howe has done a great job but maybe the players are just too comfortable with him and as harsh as it would be maybe it's time for a change. They have the look of a side who could go down this season.
