Rangers skipper James Tavernier finds himself in a lot of room at the edge of the Porto penalty area as the ball is switched from the left but the full-back's shot is wild, swerving high into the seats behind the goal.

Classic Pepe... The veteran defender gets himself in the right place to block off Brandon Barker with an emphatic shoulder charge, then Alfredo Morelos brushes an arm against the Porto man and he goes for a dramatic swan dive, winning himself a free kick inside his own penalty box.

A nice burst of pace from Ryan Kent and the Rangers winger's cross is headed behind for a corner. It's played out to Steven Davis at the apex of the penalty area but the midfielder's low drive is blocked.

Porto's Alex Telles is being afforded lots of space on the left wing, often 15m from a red shirt. Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack is playing further in-field, risking a two-on-one on James Tavernier at right-back. It's a pattern now, suggesting Steven Gerrard deems it an acceptable risk.

Young Boys are ahead in this evening's other Group G match, with Roger Assale converting a penalty at home to Feyenoord.

Porto right-back Corona likes to get forward and he cuts in from the byeline to leave Borna Barisic in a heap. The Rangers defender then hauls the Mexican down and is promptly booked. The free kick from near the edge of the penalty area is comfortably repelled.

Slick passing down the left from Rangers as the visitors make good ground but a deflected effort floats harmlessly into the arms of goalkeeper Marchesin.

Slow, slow, slow, quick from Porto as the home side knock it about languidly then suddenly burst forward as Corona swings in a peach of a cross from the right. Ze Luis gets his head on it but can only steer the ball wide from a promising position. An early warning for Rangers...

The chat among the Portuguese journalists is that they expect Rangers to be physical, combative in midfield but ultimately short of the class to beat Porto on their own patch.

The Rangers fans are packed into one half of the top tier. They have been creating quite a din in the old town down by the river, clearly enjoying the city in the past two days. The locals seem less enthused by the fixture - the home stands are no more than a quarter full.

The first corner of the evening goes the way of the hosts after a run from full-back Telles. Connor Goldson heads clear and Ryan Kent is off and running deep into Porto territory. The winger just runs out of steam near the home penalty box, with a defender stepping across him to clear.
