    Watford 0-0 Wolves

First real chance of the game.

Goal machine Matt Doherty is played through on goal by Conor Coady's Luka Modric-style pass, but the Republic of Ireland international pokes his shot straight at the advancing Ben Foster.

  2. CLOSE!published at 15:13 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

The Saints really need to start taking these chances.

Nathan Redmond turns Toby Alderweireld's legs into spaghetti, turning right and then onto his left peg before drilling a low shot which Paulo Gazzaniga spills back into the danger area.

A defender is on hand to hack clear.

Most linesmen/women can spot someone who is four metres offside to be fair.

Andy Parkes:To Duncan in Stafford: They are using millimetres with VAR to decide if someone is offside. GPS trackers aren't that accurate. They work to three or four metres.

  5. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 15:12 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

Dele Alli cuts back in the box and then hits the deck under Jack Stephens' challenge.

Referee Mike Dean waves play on.

Didn't seem to be any contact, minimal if there was.

Ben Chilwell flashes a cross/shot into the mixer and Martin Dubravka does well to push it safe and away from oncoming traffic.

New year, same old jokes, I know.

  8. 'Liverpool defeat learning curve for Leicester'published at 15:09 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

If you look at Leicester, where they are and the project they are on, I don't think it will falter on the back of that defeat against Liverpool.

Even though it was 4-0 in the end you are not going to completely change the game plan, it is all part of a learning curve.

The key is to make sure it is not a one-season wonder, can they build on it next season and the season after that.

  9. ouch!

Postpublished at 15:09 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

A painful one for Moussa Djenepo, he has Paul Gascoigne'd himself, sticking out a cynical leg on Tanguy Ndombele and doing more damage to himself than the opponent.

Djenepo is lucky though, gives his knee a rub and is able to carry on.

Yoshinori Muto is making his first Premier League start since September, which was also against Leicester. Some sort of Leicester specialist.

It's Leicester playing all the ball though, a lovely touch from Kelechi Iheanacho almost threads in Ayoze Perez but it's a yard too heavy. This system suits Leicester.

Little happening on the goalmouth front at Vicarage Road.

We know Wolves only get their claws out in the second half.

I think Leicester are actually playing Christian Fuchs in a back three with Chilwell and Ricardo as wing-backs. Bit of a change, the men in blue seeing more of the ball so far.

  14. GREAT SAVE!published at 15:06 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

Harry Kane nearly bags, he loves playing against Southampton.

The England skipper gets a second bite at the cherry on the edge of the box and his arrowed shot - which takes a nick of Jan Bednarek - is heading towards the top corner, but goalkeeper Alex McCarthy springs high to his left to make a stunning save.

  15. GREAT SAVE!published at 15:03 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Newcastle 0-0 Leicester

So nearly one nil to Leicester! It all starts with a beauty of a pass from Youri Tielemans which slices Newcastle open and wins Leicester a corner.

Jonny Evans then heads powerfully at goal, Martin Dubravka pushes it away and then Evans nearly loops a second header into the far corner but it's cleared.

  16. CLOSE!published at 15:02 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

Wasted, what a chance for Southampton in the second minute.

Ryan Bertrand picks out Cedric Soares at the back post with a perfect delivery but the Portuguese full-back nods way wide.

Spurs all over the place at the back in the early stages.

All Prem players have vests on now to track their position and heart rate. Could VAR use the GPS tracker in that to work out which player is higher up the pitch? Removes all human error then.

  18. 'You have to explain football to owners'published at 15:01 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

    Rob Green
Former Chelsea and England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Whilst other clubs have reached for the chequebook to sack their manager and hire a new one, Southampton have stuck with theirs.

I think it's a fairly steady ship on the playing side but it is a challenge to keep steady heads at the top - the owner, chief executive and board members.

As a manager sometimes you have to explain football to people who own clubs. They want success but maybe don't always understand the nuances of football.

  19. CLOSE!published at 15:01 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

    Flying start from the hosts.

The speedy Moussa Djenepo picks out the in-form Danny Ings inside the box, he spins and shoots but sees his effort from the centre of goal blocked.

Ayoze Perez gets a few boos with his first touch against his old side. Ben Chilwell is playing ahead of Christian Fuchs down the Leicester left.
