  1. 'I'm a big fan of VAR'published at 15:00 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Brighton 1-1 Chelsea

    Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche to BBC Match of the Day: "A strange one. We had a strong second half in the Manchester United game and I expected us to carry that on but we were miles off to start.

"There were not enough players brave enough to get the ball in to good areas. The main thing was we got a big response and we dominated the rest of the game from half-time onwards.

"I'm a big fan of VAR, it looks like handball to me [for a penalty shout.] You need those margins when you're not playing well to go for you and that didn't come to us.

"We do take some knocks, we'll have to respond. We've got to perform for 90 minutes, that was the key today."

    Watford v Wolves (15:00 GMT)

    Dion Dublin
Former Man Utd striker on BBC Final Score

How has Nigel Pearson got things back on track at Watford? Rules and regulation. Law and order - he's laid that down. Pearson has shaken up the dressing room and told them what to do by being honest and saying 'look we are in a relegation fight'. He has got Troy Deeney on board as well which is a big thing. Troy wears the armband, is the catalyst for them to work hard and please the fans.

  5. 'We didn't turn up until half time'published at 14:54 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Burnley 1-2 Aston Villa

    Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche to BT Sport: "Disappointing result but the frustration is we didn't turn up today until half time. You can't give any team a two-goal headstart and it wasn't through excellent play, it was from our mistakes.

"The only positive is a great reaction in the second half to take the game on. There was no shouting and bawling at half time just telling them what they were doing wrong, reminding them of the basics.

"I'm glad we got a reaction but it wasn't enough. We missed some big chances that you should be taking at this level.

"With the quality of chances we created we could've nicked something out of the game but you can't give teams that headstart."

  6. 'I'm really proud'published at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Brighton 1-1 Chelsea

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Graham Potter speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "A point is a point. I thought the performance was amazing.

"I thought our play was really brave and we got our reward.

"Everyone is delighted for Alireza Jahanbakhsh. He's worked so hard and waited so long, and to have his freshness off the bench was the thinking and he pops up with a great strike.

"He's had to be patient, but he's got qualities and he's getting his reward.

"I'm really proud of the performance, we need to carry that forward and get some more points."

  7. 'Foxes will make top four priority'published at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Newcastle v Leicester (15:00 GMT)

    Dion Dublin
Former Man Utd striker on BBC Final Score

Champions League football is realistic for Leicester City. Brendan Rodgers will prioritise the league over anything else now. They will play in the cups, and have a semi-final to look forward to in the EFL Cup but finishing in the top four of the Premier League is their priority - and I think they will do it.

  8. 'The players were ready for today'published at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Burnley 1-2 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith to BBC Match of the Day: "We changed the system and I thought that we wanted to get on the ball and play. The lads looked really accomplished at it.

"We've only had a couple of days to work on it. A lot of them have played it before at previous clubs. We've been conceding too many goals and playing the three helped us getting an extra head in the box.

"The players were ready for this today. Burnley is a tough place to come and know how to stay in this league but we felt we could compete with them.

"VAR played its part as per usual but we scored two great goals as well.

"Jack Grealish is unfortunate to not have two goals today. I'm still not sure why it was disallowed looking at the still image. I thought theirs should've been disallowed for a push on Tyrone Mings.

"Tom Heaton and Wesley will need scans. Tom wasn't sure what it was."

  9. 'It was frustrating'published at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Brighton 1-1 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard speaking to BT Sport: "It was frustrating for different reasons.

"In the first half, the game was there to be won. We weren't ruthless enough. We got the goal and we had the possession. But we just didn't kill the game off.

"We allowed them to stay in the game. In the end it was a wonder goal but we were lucky not to lose the game.

"In the end, the tactics matched up for both teams but they were better than us. We have to take that on the chin.

"[The lack of consistency] is a concern. It's something we absolutely have to look at.

"We have to look at the game today. It's a point, I'm not happy with the performance."

  11. 'I couldn't start the year any better'published at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Brighton 1-1 Chelsea

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton goalscorer Alireza Jahanbakhsh speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It is an amazing feeling. When I was about to go on, I had a feeling I could have an impact on the game.

"When I saw the ball, I just tried to hit it as hard as I could and the bicycle kick was the only option. I'm going to watch it a couple more times.

"It has been a really tough time for me. I have been training well and working hard to get my chance. Luckily, it has gone the way I wanted.

"I'm very glad to help the team win points. I couldn't start the year any better.

"Chelsea are a great side. We knew it was going to be a tough game. First half, we controlled most of the game. We were dominant most of the time and we had chances to win.

"We did a great job. It's a great performance.

"2019 didn't go as well as I wanted. I tried to end the year as well as I could and I've started 2020 in the best way possible."

  12. 'Chelsea need to kill games'published at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Brighton 1-1 Chelsea

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Final Score

The next step for Frank Lampard and his side is to be much more ruthless. Chelsea need to kill those types of games off when they are ahead. That being said, it was a wonderful goal from Jahanbakhsh to get Brighton back on level terms.

Got nothing against Lampard. He's only going to develop into a top class manager, look at what Klopp has done with Liverpool over 4 years - we're a new project that's going to take time and I believe Lampard, with the backing of the Chelsea board will be a success and hopefully bring back them days we used to have when he was a player.

    Burnley 1-2 Aston Villa

    Dion Dublin
Former Man Utd striker on BBC Final Score

Jack Grealish keeps standing up for Aston Villa. He's got the armband and all the other Villa players look at him and think 'what are you going to do?' and he delivers. Villa have a good chance of staying in the Premier League if they keep doing what they did at Burnley today.

  16. 'I'm 50/50 on VAR'published at 14:40 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Burnley 1-2 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa's Jack Grealish to BBC Match of the Day: "It was massive, we've only had one away win all season before this. To come here, one of the hardest places in the league, it was well deserved and well needed.

"We went through a sticky patch last month, the manager decided to change our shape and it paid off.

"I knew it was going to be disallowed, when you see some of the decisions over the past two weeks. When you score, you have the feeling it will be disallowed. When it was I really wanted to score again and thankfully I did.

"I'm 50/50 on VAR. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. If you're offside, you're offside.

"We could've been better on the ball and created more chances in the second half."

  17. 'Some home truths said'published at 14:38 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Burnley 1-2 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa's Tyrone Mings on BT Sport: "When you come here, you know what Burnley are about. They know how to stay in the league."

Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish: "We had a long meeting during the week and there were some home truths said and it showed today. Burnley is one of the toughest places to come in the league and thankfully we got the win."

Cameron Vaziri: As half Iranian myself, my god, that was a goal and a half! Big headlines in Iran later! Well done.

Courtland Adams: Lampard’s got this one horribly wrong. At 1-0 up against a club with a record of scoring late goals, you don’t bring off your best winger in the hope of sitting back and seeing it out for 20 minutes. Poor game management.

Willem Mevius: Not sure why Reza was dropped: he scored and played well in in the last game. Nice way to prove the manager wrong.

  20. 'The finish was extraordinary'published at 14:31 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Brighton 1-1 Chelsea

    Tony Pulis
Former Stoke and West Brom manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

It was a spectacular goal and not one you will see too many times. The technique was sublime and the finish was extraordinary. It was nothing less than what Brighton deserved.
