  5. Sitter!published at 15:26 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Newcastle 0-0 Leicester

What a chance for Joelinton! Time seems to stand still as he's played in over the top, he's pretty much got a whole half to run into. He gallops clear, closed down by Caglar Soyuncu and while Kasper Schmeichel makes a save from his shot the ball loops up high into the air.

The striker can just nod this into the net - but he gets it all wrong, heading it square and it's cleared. A big, big chance...

  6. 'Southgate must look at Ings'published at 15:25 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Southampton 1-0 Tottenham

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Final Score

Gareth Southgate has got to look at Danny Ings - if you're scoring goals then you are going to get looked at by the national team. He is playing out of his skin. It's a great bit of skill for the goal. Although from a Spurs point of view, it's poor defending. You would expect a Jose Mourinho side to be better at the back but at the minute they look really open.

    Imran Piperdi: Danny Ings, Gascoigne-esque.

I've been waiting for linesmen to be replaced by computers for years. System like Hawkeye in tennis - multiple cameras surround the pitch, sensors in the ball and every boot to pinpoint positions and moment of contact, ref gets signal to his watch with every offside. Simple.

    Southampton 1-0 Tottenham

    Andy Reid
Ex-Nottingham Forest and Tottenham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

That was a fantastic goal. We spoke about the defensive frailties of Tottenham but you have to give credit to Danny Ings there, it's a sign of a player high on confidence. A really, really good goal and probably a deserved one.

  14. CLOSE!published at 15:20 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

Brewing into a decent contest this.

Watford break forward but Nathaniel Chalobah side-foots a shot over from the edge of the box.

  15. Postpublished at 15:19 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Newcastle 0-0 Leicester

Newcastle's best striker happens to be a centre-half and Fbaian Schar doesn't need asking twice - he lines up a strike from about 30 yards and pings it straight at Kasper Schmeichel.

  16. goal

GOAL - Southampton 1-0 Tottenhampublished at 15:17 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Danny Ings (18 mins)

    Who else?

I mentioned Paul Gascoigne earlier, and this was similar to his goal against Scotland at Euro 96.

A long ball is played forward by Jack Stephens, Danny Ings is the wrong side of goal, but flicks it brilliantly over Toby Alderweireld before letting the ball drop and lacing a left-footed finish into the bottom corner.

Delightful, Ing's ninth goal in his last 10 games.

  17. 'Saints getting deeper'published at 15:17 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

    Dion Dublin
Former Man Utd striker on BBC Final Score

Southampton were initially setup incredibly aggressively. They are at home, and were trying to impose themselves by playing a high line. Spurs have slowly got themselves in the game and that high line is slowly getting deeper and deeper!

Jay Haszczyn: Have just one point of the body to judge offside, not any part that can be used to score. Use the chest like they do in Athletics or either knee. It would make it easier to establish offside if the Assistant and VAR are only watching one body part.

Tom McQuillin: Penalty all day long for Tottenham. So VAR is happy to overrule a one nanometre offside decision but not a blatant penalty?! THIS IS WHY EVERYONE HATES YOU!

  19. CLOSE!published at 15:17 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Watford 0-0 Wolves

    Wolves growing into the contest.

The first bit by Mexican striker Raul Jimenez is brilliant, turning inside of Christian Kabasele onto his right foot, but then screwing his shot horribly wide with only Ben Foster to beat.

  20. Postpublished at 15:15 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Newcastle 0-0 Leicester

Leicester with 73% of the possessoin so far, and Youri Tielemans now has a piledriver well pushed away by Martin Dubravka who is at the heart of everything in that Newcastle goal.
