    Man Utd 2-1 Everton

That injury delay has allowed Willie Kirk's side to gather themselves after Manchester United came swarming all over them in response to Everton's early goal.

It's a good spell of pressure from the visitors but no clear-cut chance is created, as they're limited to a couple of potshots from distance.

    Great contest now.

    Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

City growing into this one now as we approach 20 minutes in.

They've forced a couple of corners and are finding more of the ball out wide, but no way through as yet.

    Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

First real venture for City into Chelsea's penalty box and it's almost an opening goal for the visitors from Lauren Hemp.

A half-cleared corner by the hosts and the 18-year-old almost finds the far corner on the turn with her left foot but it heads wide of the post.

    Man Utd 2-1 Everton

Play is just back under way now after a stoppage of about two or three minutes following a head injury for United midfielder Jackie Groenen, who is okay to continue.

We all needed that little break.

    Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

Ji So-Yun again at the heart of Chelsea's early endeavours coming forward.

Unleashes a very good-looking strike from about 25 yards out that is travelling, but is right at City goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck who holds on with both hands above her head.

    Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

Nice build-up play once again from Chelsea around the City box, but Ji So-Yun can't quite direct her half-volley on target.

Some promising stuff from Emma Hayes' side both on and off the ball so far in the first 10 minutes.

    Katie Zelem (11 mins)

Man Utd skipper Katie Zelem steps up and passes the ball calmly into the bottom left hand corner, just out of reach of the despairing dive of Tinja-Riikka Korpela.

The Everton keeper got really, really close diving low to her right but it was right into the corner and she couldn't reach.

What a response from United after going behind after two minutes.

  8. PENALTY TO MAN UTDpublished at 12:11 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2019

    Man Utd 1-1 Everton

Man Utd forward Lauren James goes on a mazy run and Megan Finnigan is bamboozled. She hopefully sticks out a leg, and James gleefully falls over it.

Penalty to United and this match is just 100mph.

    Man Utd 1-1 Everton

I was in the midst of writing this before Lauren James hit that quickfire equaliser and scuppered my best laid plans.

Really sorry Mary Earps, but pretty much everyone other than the stadium announcer is saying you punched that ball straight in for the opening goal.

Sorry Simone Magill as well, I guess. No goal bonus for you now.

Cagey start for City who haven't had too much joy getting out of their own half so far in the opening stages.

Chelsea definitely pressing well off the ball. Steph Houghton may have a tricky afternoon up against the pace of Ramona Bachmann on Chelsea's left.

    Lauren James (5 mins)

    Rapid response from Manchester United!

Jess Sigsworth is played in down the right and drills the ball into the six-yard box where Lauren James is running to the near post to flick the ball home.

Wow. Let's all try and get our breaths back at some point, yeah?

    Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

Chelsea making the brighter start in this one and Erin Cuthbert sees a shot from outside the box deflected behind for their first corner.

The hosts fail to make the most of it on what is looking like a very windy south west London.

    Simone Magill (2 mins)

Well Everton came out like a house on fire, with a couple of balls flashing across goal, but this opener has come through a goalkeeping howler.

Mary Earps may well have punched a corner straight into her own net. Simone Magill is claiming it, but really who knows.

    Stinking error whatever.

Would a win for either Chelsea or Manchester City in our early game effectively knock the other out of title contention or is that too early to write anyone off?

  16. When they met last seasonpublished at 11:58 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2019

Chelsea v Manchester City (12:00 GMT)

These two title rivals played out two draws in the league last season, opening their campaigns with a goalless curtain raiser at Kingsmeadow in September 2018 before South Korea star Ji So-yun’s late strike saw Chelsea come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in Manchester.

There was further drama when the two sides met in the semi-finals of both domestic cup competitions last term.

First, City were 2-0 winners at Kingsmeadow in the League Cup, with Nikita Parris scoring twice, before Magdalena Eriksson’s bizarre, stoppage-time own goal settled an FA Cup semi-final in City’s favour and Nick Cushing’s team went on to lift both cups.

Chelsea remain unbeaten this term and are on a nine-game winning run in all competitions, scoring 11 times in their past two matches.

Man City have won five in a row since suffering three straight defeats in October, when they lost 1-0 at WSL holders Arsenal before exiting the Champions League at the hands of Atletico Madrid.

Everton should be pretty fresh this afternoon after their match with Chelsea last weekend was postponed because of a frozen pitch.

Their one change from the 3-1 win over Tottenham a fortnight ago sees Kika van Es replaced by Megan Finnigan.
