  2. CLOSE!published at 15:05 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2019

    Leeds 0-0 Cardiff

Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds are unchanged - with Liam Cooper not ready to return from injury - but they should already be ahead against Cardiff.

Patrick Bamford finds Pablo Hernandez but the playmaker drags his shot disappointingly wide when very well-placed.

The Liberty Stadium hosts two sides desperate for victory this afternoon.

Home side Swansea City have been in freefall of late, tumbling from the top of the table at the start of November to their current position of 11th.

Middlesbrough, meanwhile, are slowly edging themselves away from the relegation zone, a draw and a win in their past two matches moving them four points clear of the bottom three.

How precious three points could prove for either team today.

There are six more 15:00 GMT kick-off on this bumper afternoon of Championship football.

Barnsley will stay bottom no matter how they fare at home to QPR, who have won their past two matches.

Out-of-form Derby start the afternoon four points below Gary Rowett's improving Millwall and Wayne Rooney will once again have to watch for the dugout as he waits for January to come around.

Preston arrested their slide by beating Fulham in midweek and host a Jekyll and Hyde Luton side, while Stoke will hope to back up Tuesday's win over the Hatters against Reading to move out of the relegation zone.

Jonathan Woodgate's Middlesbrough have picked up of late and visit a Swansea side who have dropped away from the play-offs and Wigan take on Huddersfield in a battle between two of the Championship's bottom six.

  8. Free-scoring Fletcher to make Forest flounder?published at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2019

Nottingham Forest v Sheff Wed (15:00 GMT)

Steven Fletcher celebratesImage source, Getty Images

It's fifth against eighth at the City Ground this afternoon - with Nottingham Forest a point higher than Sheffield Wednesday - but it's Garry Monk's Owls with the momentum from four games unbeaten.

Steven Fletcher has been the catalyst with six goals in his past five Championship appearances and he will fancy his chances of extending that run as Forest have lost eight of their previous nine league games against Wednesday.

Expect goals here - the hosts have only failed to score in one of their past 18 home league games, while the Owls have been suspect at defending set-pieces.

We fortunately have a full compliment of fixtures in League Two - with financially-stricken Macclesfield given the go-ahead to face Walsall after players were paid outstanding wages.

Swindon are top and flying... they host an improving Oldham, while second-placed Exeter go to inconsistent Salford and Derek Adams takes bottom side Morecambe to Plymouth - who the Scot managed for almost four years until April.

  10. Rovers on the risepublished at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2019

Bristol City v Blackburn (15:00 GMT)

Aside from Leeds no-one in the Championship is on better form than Blackburn, who will look to continue their rise towards the play-offs at fourth-placed Bristol City.

However it'll be difficult for Tony Mowbray's Rovers as they are without 10-goal top-scorer Bradley Dack through suspension.

The hosts suffered a surprise midweek defeat by Millwall and will be keen to make sure Ashton Gate remains a fortress.

Fans tell 5 Live about their fears over record club losses in the EFL Championship.

Analysis by BBC Radio 5 Live has found that the total club losses in the EFL Championship in 2017-18 were at a record high.

Fans at Sheffield Wednesday have been talking about what they think the Championship has become.

Chris McClure from the 'Owl Sanctuary' podcast said the threat of a points deduction means the enjoyment of going to a game has been "zapped out before I've even entered the ground".

Fulham and Brentford are separated by just six miles and - more pressingly - two points in the Championship promotion race.

Thomas Frank's Bees have form in their favour, while Fulham are looking to avoid a run of three consecutive Championship defeats, which last happened back in January 2015.

Aleksandar Mitrovic always gives the Cottagers a chance - he's scored 48.5% of their league goals this season, the highest percentage of a team's goals scored by a player in the division.

  14. Can Leeds overcome bogey side?published at 14:35 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2019

    Leeds v Cardiff (15:00 GMT)

    Patrick BamfordImage source, Getty Images

Leeds are going for their eighth straight league win for the first time since September 2009 but Cardiff are somewhat of a bogey team - winning their past three meetings and losing just once in their past 11 visits to Elland Road.

The Bluebirds had been picking up under Neil Harris, who suffered his first defeat at Brentford in midweek, but they have won just once on the road in the Championship this term.

Bielsa's Whites, meanwhile, are 10 unbeaten and 11 points clear of third - surely this is the year they return to the Premier League?
