Derby County fans have only got one more day to wait before seeing England's all-time leading goalscorer pull on their team's jersey for the first time.

Wayne Rooney is expected to make his debut for the Rams against Barnsley at Pride Park on Thursday, after several weeks on the touchline as part of Phillip Cocu's coaching staff.

"Expectation will be high when he starts playing but we have to give him a few games to build up his minutes and get in the team," said Cocu.

You will be able to follow live text coverage of Rooney's introduction to the Championship on Thursday from 18:45 GMT.

    West Brom 1-1 Leeds

We're into three minutes of stoppage time.

Just before that Kyle Edwards chance for the hosts Leeds striker Patrick Bamford had fired straight at Sam Johnstone from a tight angle when he really ought to have squared it for midfielder Mateusz Klich in the middle.

Fine save by Leeds keeper Kiko Casilla to deny Kyle Edwards!

The sub did well to wriggle free and send a powerful effort at the Leeds goal.

  6. 'Wigan can stay up'published at 19:05 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    FT: Birmingham 2-3 Wigan

Wigan manager Paul Cook believes his side can avoid relegation after the Latics beat Birmingham City 3-2 at St Andrew's.

“I feel confident we can get out of trouble,” said Cook. “I’ve watched us play too many times now (to think otherwise).

“If we do in the second half of the season what we’ve done in the first half, and we learn from the mistakes, the reality is we won’t be in trouble but that’s a long way off.

“At this stage the league is quite tight and teams can be dragged in because if teams at the bottom start winning, you are in trouble and teams will be looking over their shoulder."

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 86 mins

    West Brom 1-1 Leeds

Leeds winger Helder Costa, not known for his tackling, tries to tackle Conor Townsend, fails and is booked.

This second half has been really scrappy.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 83 mins

    West Brom 1-1 Leeds

West Brom make their final change of the day as Kenneth Zohore comes on for Matty Phillips.

Phillips missed a glorious chance to make it 2-0 just before half-time - one he might rue if Albion don't take three points from this game.

  9. Postpublished at 83 mins

    West Brom 1-1 Leeds

Bit of everything from West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone there.

First he does well to come off his line and punch the ball away from Jack Harrison and then he decides to try and beat Patrick Bamford and is tackled.

Fortunately for him the ball goes behind for a goal kick.

I can't imagine his boss Slaven Bilic thought much of that.

    West Brom 1-1 Leeds

Leeds defender Luke Ayling goes on an enterprising run forward but he can't quite slip it through for Patrick Bamford.

  11. Watkins to stay at Brentford?published at 18:54 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    FT: Bristol City 0-4 Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank was impressed with his side's 4-0 win over Bristol City - which saw the Bees move up to third - and believes goalscorer Ollie Watkins is going nowhere this transfer window.

“Sometimes in life you find yourself working at a special place and that is what we have at the moment," said Frank.

“Today was a really professional performance and a brilliant way to bounce back from defeat in our last game. Playing against 10 men is never easy and can change the mindset of players. But we were clinical and our third goal summed up the way we want to play.

“Of course Ollie Watkins' form will attract interest, but I see no reason why he should want to leave this month."

    FT: Grimsby 1-0 Salford

New Grimsby Town manager Ian Holloway watched his side from the stands today.

He joked it was "the worst day of his life" asking BBC Radio Humberside, "How can I be that far away from the action?"

He must have had some positive effects though as Holloway saw the League Two Mariners win for the first time in 16 games as they beat Salford City 1-0.

    FT: Huddersfield 2-5 Stoke

Michael O'Neill was in a positive mood after his side climbed out of the bottom three with their convincing win over Huddersfield:

“The reaction of the players was fantastic – I don’t think that anyone can dispute we deserved to win.

“It’s been a difficult year for this club. I think there was only nine wins in the last calendar year so it’s testament to the players’ mentality [this result].

“Today was a fresh start for us and the players took it. It would have been easier for us to not have a reaction but the reaction was fantastic to going 2-1 down."

    Better from the home team.

A nice bit of passing almost gets Filip Krovinovic in behind Leeds but the angle is too tight and Leeds keeper Kiko Casilla is off his line to end the attack.
