Quote MessageAlfredo Morelos is performing at a higher level now and Steven Gerrard has sorted out his attitude. He's scoring important, defining goals and he's relentless. His record now is off the scale and he's what? 23? In the vernacular of the tabloids, Rangers' 'mettle will be tested' in January. If Ollie McBurnie is worth £20m, how much is Morelos worth?
HT: Celtic 2-0 Rennes
Celtic players are famous for their huddle, but it was the Rennes players who were called into a conference after the half-time whistle before heading up the tunnel. Penny for their thoughts!

Quote MessageDecent enough strike from Ryan Christie, but the keeper should be saving that all night long. That notwithstanding, what a season so far from the former Inverness man. His 13th goal of the season so far for Celtic. Not bad from midfield is it?

Quote MessageCeltic dominated that first half. As the game wore on, Rennes started to retreat further and further into their own half and Celtic's intensity has been upped as the half wore on. It's good to see players who feature in the national team competing well at this level

Rangers battled to a draw away to Feyenoord earlier to top Group G ahead of final fixtures with all four teams going into those with a chance of qualifying for the last 32.
Home head coach Dick Advocaat tells the media that Alfredo Morelos' quality "made the difference" in the second-half with his two goals for Rangers.
"We knew Stevie would say something to them at half time, but they had more possession without clear chances," he says.
"There's still possibilities for us in the second half, but it's about scoring goals. Their striker is a great striker because he scored two goals, but for the rest of the time I didn't see him. He is still a good striker.
"That makes the difference."

Quote MessageIt's a howler from the goalkeeper, but it's well-worked by Celtic. They built the play, moved the ball and drew Rennes out. As soon as Ryan Christie moved on his left foot, Lewis Morgan makes a great run he could have taken, but Christie took the shot on and the goalkeeper makes a real mess of it. Celtic deserve to be two goals in front
Having already qualified for the last 32, Celtic are heading there as Group E winners after a dominant display against Rennes.
The French side have dropped from second bottom when they drew with Celtic in the opening game of the group to 11th now and you can see why.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon surprised with his team selection, with Lewis Morgan leading the line in place of the injured Odsonne Edouard and the winger responded with his second goal for the club.
When the team was announced, we thought Ryan Christie would be up there, but playing his normal midfield role didn't prevent him adding the second with his 14th goal of the season.
Celtic showing their strength in depth.
Ryan Christie
Just as it looked Celtic would have to settle for a one-goal lead at the break, Ryan Christie picks it up 20 yards from goal and his low drive bounces in front of Edouard Mendy and over the prone goalkeeper.

Quote MessageBy the size and sound of the Rennes contingent at Celtic Park, you’d think they were 3-0 up and about to qualify for the next phase. Unable to qualify before a ball was kicked and a goal down in a match that can do nothing for their season. They’ve been terrific since the first whistle and are making some racket
Celtic 1-0 Rennes
Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy goes down in a heap as he rises to meet a Lewis Morgan cross and is challenged by Ryan Christie.
The Celtic midfielder, just booked, breaths a sigh of relief as the referee is unimpressed as the goalkeeper receives treatment.

Ryan Christie is the first Celtic player to be booked after a clumsy challenge on Lea Siliki after the home midfielder mis-controls just outside the Rennes penalty box.

Quote MessageI make that two career goals for Celtic for Lewis Morgan and both have come in Europe. He scored in the 4-1 win over AIK Solna in the Europa League play-off match and has now doubled his tally with a fine swipe of his left foot against Rennes. Celtic have been much improved since going ahead

Quote MessageCeltic have gradually improved as this game has gone on. It was a bit of a sluggish start with some slow passing, but as this has played out they've definitely improved and are thoroughly deserving of this 1-0 lead
Celtic 1-0 Rennes

Olivier Ntcham has an eye for goal tonight and he fires a superb half-volley from the edge of the penalty box that looks destined for the net until goalkeeper Edouard Mendy claws it from underneath himself before holding at the second attempt.
