Burnley's Jay Rodriguez scored an 89th-minute winner to beat Bournemouth in a dire match at Vitality Stadium.

There had not been a single shot on target from either side until substitute Rodriguez headed in from close range following Ashley Westwood's cross.

Jefferson Lerma's 30-yard effort for the hosts went well over the top and Chris Mepham's second-half header went wide.

A physical Burnley side had offered little as an attacking threat in a disrupted match littered with fouls and strong challenges before Rodriguez's winner.

Six players were booked - two from Bournemouth and four from the Clarets.

An ugly win, but Sean Dyche will not care one bit. One shot on target, one goal. Burnley steal this one.

Jefferson Lerma ran straight to the assistant referee on the near side as Jay Rodriguez sped away to celebrate his goal. But neither the assistant - or VAR - are able to save Bournemouth from what is looking like a classic smash-and-grab by Burnley. "Jay Rodriguez, he's one of our own," sing the hardy souls down from Lancashire.

Jay Rodriguez scored twice here in a 3-1 win for Southampton in December 2016 - he's sporting an Andy Carroll-style haircut these days.

He came on for Ashley Barnes.

Ashley Barnes is down on the floor. He has two arms wrapped around Phillip Billing, who swings an arm at the Burnley man.

We have a VAR check to see if any action is to be taken. No further action needed.

Chris Mepham then heads wide for Bournemouth. 67 minutes, shots on target none.

And another yellow. Poor Ryan Fraser gets clumped again, this time by a late one from Jeff Hendrick.

James Tarkowski concedes another free-kick soon afterwards.

Lots of fouls, quite a few bookings, absolutely no attacking quality so far today.

Ryan Fraser has had a tough afternoon, this time he's wiped out by Phil Bardsley, who concedes a free-kick but doesn't get a card. The free-kick is absolutely wasted though.

Simon Francis takes out Charlie Taylor and that's yellow. Two bookings for Bournemouth, three for Burnley. Getting nasty.

Diego Rico holds on to the ball to stop a quick throw-in, Ashley Barnes shoves him to the floor and gets booked. Rico also sees yellow too.

Dwight McNeil with a cynical clip of the heels chops down Jack Stacey and gets an absolutely nailed-on yellow card. That's three yellows shown in two minutes. This could be where our excitement comes from.

Some rare action for Nick Pope in the Burnley goal as he does well to claim a high ball into the box from Ryan Fraser, aimed for Phillip Billing. Still no shots on target to report.
