  1. 'A heck of a journey'published at 25 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Burnley

    Mark Mitchener
    BBC Sport at Vitality Stadium

Nearly all Premier League games at the division's smallest ground are sell-outs, but there are quite a number of empty seats in the away section, up in the far corner of the East Stand - east Lancashire to east Dorset being a heck of a journey at this time of year.

It's overcast and the rain is falling quite heavily - while the drop in temperature means even Burnley boss Sean Dyche has just nipped into the away dugout to put a warmer jacket on over his suit. He's having plenty to say to assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakas on the near side.

    Bournemouth 0-0 Burnley

Dwight McNeil takes the Burnley corner from the right and it's an inswinger, but far too close to Aaron Ramsdale and he collects it at the second attempt.

  3. Postpublished at 23 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Burnley

Ashley Barnes has Burnley's first strike at goal, it clips the heel of Simon Francis and that gives the Clarets a corner from the right.

Twenty minutes gone and that Lerma 'effort' is all we've had so far. Nothing on target from either side.

  5. Postpublished at 15:18 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2019

    Bournemouth 0-0 Burnley

Bournemouth's Jefferson Lerma has been in the thick of the action so far and has the first attempt of the day. But it's an absolutely rubbish one as he hits the ball from 30 yards and it hits the advertising banner on the roof of the stand behind the goal.

Dan Bell: Ashley Barnes with a dangerous tackle but no card given. The lack of consistency is ridiculous.

  7. Postpublished at 14 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Burnley

Burnley go long and Chris Wood is on the chase but Cherries goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale dashes out of his penalty area and gets there first, launching the ball into the stand.

Bournemouth keep the same 4-5-1 shape which served them well at Chelsea last week. With four central midfielders in the XI, England international Lewis Cook is on the right of the midfield quintet.

    Bournemouth 0-0 Burnley

Burnley won 3-1 at the Vitality Stadium in April, but they've only won one of 10 league games on the road since then.

Bournemouth club doctor Craig Roberts is swiftly on to treat Simon Francis' head injury - he's seen a few battered and bruised heads in his time, having previously served as team doctor for the Springboks national rugby union team of South Africa. Francis is now back on the field, sporting a headband.

Simon Francis is able to carry on after a few minutes delay and is now sporting a very hefty bandage on his head. No action was taken by referee Martin Atkinson against Barnes.

Ashley Barnes, with eyes on the ball, catches Bournemouth captain Simon Francis with a boot to the head.

Francis, was stopping low to head it and was brave, but needs some treatment and looks dazed and hurt.

  13. Lawro's predictionpublished at 7 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Burnley

    Mark Lawrenson
    Ex-Liverpool defender

Bournemouth's win at Chelsea was well-earned and very impressive, especially because they had been on a long losing streak.

Burnley also bounced back, by beating Newcastle to end their run of defeats.

It was not the first time that both teams have shown that, no matter what sort of form they are in, they are not just going to crumble and disappear down the trap door.

In different ways, they are always capable of responding to setbacks with a decent performance and result - which is why they have been able to establish themselves in the Premier League.

Both teams have a different style of play, but it should make for a decent battle. I am going to go with Bournemouth to win it.

    Lawro's prediction: 2-1

This week Lawro is up against Serge Pizzorno, from indie rock band Kasabian.

Serge's prediction: I'm going for Burnley here, because Sean Dyche is my boy. 1-2

A bright start for the visitors, who force a corner with Bournemouth's Jefferson Lerma blocking it and sending it behind.

The corner from the left is a waste though, with Lerma hacking it clear at the near post.

Eddie Howe's time as Burnley boss included the signings of players such as Charlie Austin, Danny Ings, Kieran Trippier and Sam Vokes, but the last remaining "Howe signing" in the Clarets' first team is captain Ben Mee.

Bournemouth's Junior Stanislas, who is yet to feature this season because of injury although he returned to the bench last week at Chelsea and is a substitute again today, has the distinction of having been signed by Howe for both clubs.

    Bournemouth 0-0 Burnley

Seven seasons in - and still going strong - the Premier League's two longest-serving bosses are entitled to a bit of mutual back-patting this weekend, even more so now that both have snapped their losing streaks.

Chris Wood has scored three times in his four top-flight appearances against Bournemouth, so will be desperate to pass a fitness test. The Kiwi's latest match-winning header against Newcastle took his tally to seven goals in his last 10 games, but Bournemouth's win at Chelsea was the league's big story of last weekend, achieved after five straight defeats - and with seven regulars missing.

Improving the home form is the Cherries' next aim, but their injury-hit defence will face a stern and very different kind of test to that of Stamford Bridge, as Burnley bid for what would be just a second away win of the campaign.

  18. Barnes on Burnley's 'two big lumps'published at 15:00 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2019

    Bournemouth v Burnley (15:00 GMT)

    Mark Mitchener
    BBC Sport at Vitality Stadium

Bournemouth's training this week has included boss Eddie Howe utilising fellow club legend Steve Fletcher, now an assistant coach on the backroom team here, to help prepare his defenders for the physical threat posed by Burnley's Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes.

Fletcher, now 47, spent nearly two decades up front for the Cherries across two spells, and Howe told the Daily Echo: "He has done a little bit of work with the back four this week, against the back four, but nothing out of the ordinary. He is still a big handful."

Barnes particularly relishes the physical challenge, recently telling the Daily Mail: "Something like us - two big lumps, operating in the box as much as possible - is something defenders are unfamiliar with. We like to come off the pitch being sure that defenders think they've been in a fight."

  19. 'Respected by me, that's for sure'published at 14:59 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2019

    Bournemouth v Burnley (15:00 GMT)

And Burnley manager Sean Dyche on comparisons with Bournemouth: "They've put a reasonable amount of money into what they do there, we probably less so… I think they are similar in the sense there's an earthiness, but there's also a belief in what they do.

"Any manager doing what [Eddie Howe] has done has earned the right to be respected and he's certainly respected by me, that's for sure."

  20. 'Burnley work incredibly hard'published at 14:59 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2019

    Bournemouth v Burnley (15:00 GMT)

Some more quotes from Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe: "When you win you naturally get a bounce, the players feel better about themselves, and it's the same for the supporters who will have had a lift.

"It's key now that we push that on and get a good result against Burnley. They're a team that work incredibly hard, they're a very effective team and we're going to have make sure that we're good."
