One boost for the Cherries though is that Joshua King has been declared fit. He had gone off against Chelsea late on with a turned ankle.

  2. 'The physio room is packed but last week was outstanding'published at 14:56 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2019

    Bournemouth v Burnley (15:00 GMT)

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth defender Steve Cook on BBC Football Focus: "Last week was an outstanding performance at the back and going forwards.

"Obviously it's tough with so many injuries but that's why we have the squad and the lads who came in last week were fantastic.

"The physio room is packed at the moment so it will be a big boost when a few start to come back.

"We know what Burnley are all about - they play to their strengths and the two forwards are a real handful. We're back in front of our own fans, though, so we want to put a performance on for them."

It was a very welcome three points for both sides last out. Bournemouth's surprise win at Chelsea ended a run of five successive losses, while Burnley's home victory over Newcastle came after three defeats in a row.

  5. The "longest-serving" derby?published at 14:54 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2019

    Bournemouth v Burnley (15:00 GMT)

Is it a shock that the game between teams 14th and 12th in the Premier League pits the division's two longest-serving managers against each other?

When Eddie Howe left Burnley to return to Bournemouth for a second spell as boss in October 2012, it created the vacancy for Sean Dyche to take the Clarets hot seat a fortnight later - and the pair have been in place nearly three years than the next longest-serving top-flight boss, Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp.

After a pair of 1-1 draws in the Championship in 2013-14, these two teams have met six times at Premier League level, with Burnley holding the advantage by four wins to two. Last season's "double" for the Clarets came after both teams won at home in 2016-17, and won away in 2017-18.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe names the same 11 that started the 1-0 win at Chelsea last Saturday, although England striker Callum Wilson, who missed that match with a hamstring injury, is fit enough to be named among the substitutes.

A lengthy Cherries injury list includes Nathan Ake, Adam Smith, Steve Cook, top scorer Harry Wilson, Charlie Daniels and David Brooks.

Bournemouth: Ramsdale, Stacey, Francis, Mepham, Rico, Billing, Lewis Cook, Gosling, Lerma, Fraser, King.

Substitutes: Boruc, Surman, Solanke, Callum Wilson, Stanislas, Simpson, Kilkenny.

Just the one change for Burnley from the side that began the 1-0 victory over Newcastle as Charlie Taylor comes in for Erik Pieters, who drops to the bench. Other substitute options include Danny Drinkwater, Robbie Brady, Jay Rodriguez and Aaron Lennon.

Burnley: Pope, Bardsley, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor, Hendrick, Westwood, Cork, McNeil, Barnes, Wood.

Substitutes: Drinkwater, Brady, Rodriguez, Hart, Pieters, Lennon, Long.
