  6. Coefficientpublished at 22:54 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2019

Despite Rangers' progression, a lack of a victory for our teams tonight has led to Scotland dropping from 15th to 16th in the coefficient. Remember, Scotland would get an extra Champions League spot if they finished in the top 15.

The good news is that Cyprus, the team that has leapfrogged into 15th, only has one team left in European competition, compared to Scotland's two.

    Easy.

  7. Lennon praises Dembele and Robertsonpublished at 22:49 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2019

    FT: Cluj 0-2 Celtic

Celtic manager Neil Lennon wasn't too disheartened by tonight's result because he managed to give young players vital experience in European football. Particularly 16-year-old Karamoko Dembele and 18-year-old Scott Robertson.

Speaking after the game, Lennon said: “We think very highly of him [Karamoko Dembele]. That wasn’t at the forefront of my mind. Obviously, we wanted to give him some experience and I want to keep him around the first team squad because we think he’s a real talent. Allied to that, Scott [Robertson’s] performance tonight really delighted me. I thought it was a superb debut for an 18 year old to come in to that environment to play so maturely and with a lot of composure as well."

The night kicked off with Celtic in Cluj, where a much-changed side - nine in total - went down to a 2-0 defeat to their hosts.

However, it did not matter, as Celtic top the group as winners.

Gerrard's aim was to still be in Europe after Christmas. Now his side have achieved this, the Rangers boss has stated that his side will "give it everything they've got" as they progress to the last 32.

Speaking to BT Sport, Gerrard said: "I remember sitting in the canteen with the players watching the draw come out [for the group stage]. When I seen Porto and Feyenoord I thought it would be very tough, then when I seen Young Boys I thought that's a Champions League group. They all had Champions League experience and we haven't. We're searching and striving for that.

"This is an incredible achievement when you think about where we were in July qualifying in Gibraltar. To get out this group whatever way we did it is fantastic."

  10. 'Jack will get no criticism from me' - Gerrardpublished at 22:37 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2019

    FT: Rangers 1-1 Young Boys

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has defended Ryan Jack's performance and committment to the team, despite his red card in tonight's game meaning he'll miss the next game.

Speaking to BT Sport, he said: "He got a record card. Listen, he has been majestic again or the majority of the game. It doesn't mean he gets any more punishment. He was out of one of the games anyway. He'll be disappointed because we'll be getting a nice tie that Ryan will love to play in. But if there's one person in that dressing room that will get no criticism from me it's Ryan Jack."

    FT: Rangers 1-1 Young Boys

When asked if there is any regret over not finishing top of the group, Gerrard told BT Sport: "We're representing Rangers, so you always want to win games.

"I'm not going to stand here and celebrate a draw or finishing second, but lets give credit where it's due. The club's suffered a lot and I think it's the first time its had knockout football in Europe since 2011.

"It was about building it back up and this is another push in the right direction, but I won't over celebrate for sure."

  14. 'We deserved to go through' - Gerrardpublished at 22:25 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2019

    FT: Rangers 1-1 Young Boys

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard believes his side weren't very good tonight but is still adamant that they deserved to qualify from their group.

Speakig to BT Sport, he said: "I'm very pleased that we will continue European football after Christmas. I think the boys deserved that after our first rounds from the first rounds of qualifying until now. I think we certainly deserve it. I don't think we were good tonight, especially in the second half.

"We went out with the intentions of winning the game. I thought we stopped doing what we were good at in the second half, which is either finding space or keeping the ball. It was wave after wave and it was direct. But credit to them, they never gave up. We didn't expect them to."

Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield belives his side could have done much better in the second half but is proud that the club did what was needed to qualify.

Speaking to BT Sport, he said: "The second half wasn't good enough as a whole. The first half was exactly what we wanted to do to put the pressure on and come out the front foot. Then Alfredo Morelos gets his goal. The second half was a bit flat and we gave the initiative to them but given what's at stake then I think the overall picture was to get European football after Christmas and we've done that."
