Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk told BBC Sport: "We did very well, I thought it was a fantastic performance coming away to a Premier League side, especially after the week we have had.

"We had let ourselves down [with three successive defeats] but we showed the response we wanted and we deserved to win the game so we have to be happy with that. This courage and attitude is what I wanted to see. We want a competitive squad and people to take their opportunities and this was a performance to be proud of.

"The FA Cup is such a great competition; I didn't make changes for the sake of it - they were deserved changes after the last week. I'm delighted that we're in the next round but I would like a home tie."

On Steven Fletcher's knee injury, Monk adds: "He has just had a quick X-ray and everything structurally is OK. It looks like he has hyper-extended his leg and hopefully it's not too serious."

  2. 'Premier League referees do not make decisions'published at 18:26 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2020

FT: Preston North End 2-4 Norwich City

Preston manager Alex Neil told BBC Sport: "I certainly think the second half was better, but having looked at two of the goals they are clearly offside [Norwich's second and fourth goals]. The problem you have with Premier League referees is that they basically do not make decisions anymore because of VAR, but we do not have VAR [in the Championship]. If it was at Norwich [Carrow Road], the fact is both of them wouldn't have been goals. Having looked at them, they are not even close, it is half a body for each goal.

"The boys rallied in the second half, they were a lot of better and we created a few chances. But when you give any Premier League teams a couple of goals it is going to be difficult. We changed every player apart from two of them so we have big [selection] dilemmas for the next match. Our bread and butter is against Blackburn next week."

  3. 'I thought the performance was outstanding'published at 18:26 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2020

    Fulham 2-1 Aston Villa

    Fulham

Fulham boss Scott Parker speaking to BBC Sport: "The most important thing was the result, but more importantly I thought the performance was outstanding.

"We caused them a lot of problems, we got in the right areas.

"I'm pleased for Harry [Arter], he's had to work hard. He was a big part for us and it's good to have him back. The winner was pretty special to win the game.

"Today, as a team, we put right a bad peformance last time but the way we dominated was pretty good.

"Winning becomes a habit like losing does. Ultimately, you need a winning mentality and a habit of being winners, and that is going to take time. You can't just click your fingers, but games like this help against very good opposition.

"It's something for us to build on."

Norwich manager Daniel Farke told BBC Sport: "Good performance and a well deserved win. It was a professional performance, considering it is the fifth game in 14 days. The most important thing is we go into the next round, and we are also three games unbeaten which helps with the confidence."

On Adam Idah's performance: "Adam was great, of course he delivered with three goals but his workload was good and his ability to link the play. We play many young lads but there are no gifts and they are on the pitch because they deserve it.

"We also had some players on the pitch who were not in their rhythm, but to deliver that performance was good. We have had an unbelievably difficult draw in previous years, but a cup run is always good and you always have to fight."

Watford boss Nigel Pearson: "It's a game we should have seen off. Two things that strike me today. The most important thing is we gave chance to players and did not quite take them. A lot of youngsters came in and did well for an hour – the fitness levels need to be worked on."

On the nine changes to his starting XI "The Premier League is the most important thing for us this season. We’ve got knocks, illness and injuries. We made changes because we needed to as much as anything.

"The players with opportunities to show what they could do – they need to reflect on their performances.

"It's a disappointing result and there are lessons to be learnt."

On the VAR decisions? "I've not seen them – we have to take it for what it is. The sending off (of Roberto Pereyra) is at worst a bit petulant.

"I can't see it something that warrants a red. That’s three games on the trot we’ve had a player sent off."

Leicester deserve their lead but credit to Wigan for a brave fight so far and they'll feel hard done by having gone close moments before the home side doubled their lead.

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith speaking to BBC Sport: "We had a much changed team, we had to with the amount of games we've had.

"There wasn't an awful lot in the game, they scored two wonder goals and beat us.

"The change was after looking at the Burnley game. We had a really good game but coming into today was different.

"While the FA Cup means an awful lot to us, it's not top of our priority list given the injuries we've got and the games coming up.

"It was an opportunity for players to show me they want to be in the first time. some did ok and some didn't deliver.

"It was a cagey game. Most of Fulham's team were in the Premier League last year."

    Sergio Aguero

Lurking at the back stick. Sergio Aguero's on the scoresheet if he survives a VAR check.

More as we get it.... he's scored... it counts.

It looked like Phil Foden arm may have strayed offside but it doesn't and his volley across goal was turned home from an acute angle by Aguero thanks to a deflection off Leon Legge.

    Normal order restored.

Alessandro Corbino: Defo a penalty for United, how can they keep saying it wasn't clear and obvious when they're giving offside decisions for a toe's length??

Nathan House: Here we go again... Williams got a toe to the ball and Dendoncker kicks him in the shin... VAR says no penalty. It’s not the decisions that annoy people, it's the inconsistency of it. Clear. As. Day.
