The Cincinnati Reds baseball team that dominated the National League in the 1970s were known as the Big Red Machine. This Liverpool side looks capable of earning a similar nickname if they can keep it together over the next few seasons....

Keinan Davis has taken his place up top with Mbwana Samatta, with Jack Grealish now playing behind the front two - and getting booed by the home fans for his role in Jefferson Lerma's exit.

Despite playing 11 against 10 for the final half-hour, Villa may find their spare man is at the back - as they still have three central defenders (Kortney Haouse, Tyrone Mings and sub Bjorn Engels) with only Callum Wilson to mark. But none of them picked him up for that chance just now as Wilson fired wide.

Valentino Lazaro's introduction has lifted the St James' Park crowd, who are doing their best to lift the team.

Newcastle need a spark, can the Austrian winger provide it? Still Norwich who are posing he greater threat.

  6. 'Henderson has given the keeper the eyes'published at 16:22 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2020

    Liverpool 2-0 Southampton

    Tim Cahill
Former Everton midfielder on Final Score

Absolute class. Henderson is know for his defending. He's said he would like to get forward more to help the team out but his main thing is protecting the back four. To be in that position is a credit to me. It's a great finish, he's given the keeper the eyes and slotted it home.

  8. 'Robertson has been amazing'published at 16:22 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2020

    Liverpool 2-0 Southampton

    Stephen Kelly
Former Reading and Fulham defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Andy Robertson has been amazing. As a full-back he does everything so well. Defensively, he's been on excellent form, great feet and his body positions are so good - and he's been exceptional driving forward, that back-heel for the first goal was wonderful.

  9. Postpublished at 16:22 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2020

    Newcastle 0-0 Norwich

I don't think we're going to get a goal at St James' Park.

Norwich carve out another chance but Teemu Pukki blazes over.

  10. 'Firmino was exceptional'published at 16:20 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2020

    Liverpool 2-0 Southampton

    Stephen Kelly
Former Reading and Fulham defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Brilliant play. Firmino drives towards goal, looks like he's going to shoot but puts into Henderson's path and it's a nice finish. A great goal but Firmino was exceptional.

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Sheff Utd

    Karen Carney
Former England winger on Final Score

The corner has been whipped in, it should have been a comfortable catch and he has just had a howler. He threw it in the net really. He won't want to watch that again.

  14. goal

GOAL - Liverpool 2-0 Southamptonpublished at 16:17 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2020

    Jordan Henderson

    The captain strikes!

Liverpool have rode their luck at Anfield but they surely have the points in the bag now. Roberto Firmino finds Jordan Henderson with a clever pass and the midfielder ripples the back of the net with a lovely finish.

It's another carnival atmosphere at Anfield with the runaway leaders in control.

  15. 'Great technique'published at 16:17 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2020

    West Ham 3-1 Brighton

    Tim Cahill
Former Everton midfielder on Final Score

Great technique, he's got over the ball and it's fantastic from Robert Snodgrass. Leading from the front and he's scored two great goals.

    Bournemouth 2-0 Aston Villa

    Tim Cahill

Jefferson Lerma has been hard-done-by. It's more of a block that a foul. It's soft and it's harsh.

  18. goal

GOAL - Crystal Palace 0-1 Sheff Utdpublished at 16:14 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2020

    Vicente Guaita (own goal)

What a howler by Palace's keeper!

The Blades are gifted the lead as Vicente Guaita drops Oliver Norwood's corner into his own net.

Disaster for Palace. Sheffield United are up to fifth in the table.

  19. goal

GOAL - West Ham 3-1 Brightonpublished at 16:13 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2020

    Robert Snodgrass (57 mins)

That should do it for the Hammers.

Brighton half clear a corner to Robert Snodgrass on the edge of the box and the winger drives a strong effort through the crowd and into the back of the net.

Two goals and an assist for Snodgrass in this game. A very good day at the office.

  20. 'It would have been an amazing goal'published at 16:13 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2020

    Liverpool 1-0 Southampton

    Stephen Kelly
Former Reading and Fulham defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

That was sensational form Liverpool! The way they passed the ball around their area to break the press - so calm, so relaxed and they go all the way up the pitch only for Mohamed Salah to be offside. If that would have stood it would have been amazing.
