Watford manager Nigel Pearson speaking to BT Sport: "We've tried to refocus on doing what's got us some success in recent weeks. As a team we need to function as well as we can - without the ball working hard and showing our collective spirit,

"With the ball, we need to be expressive and show what we can do.

"We need to go into this game with our identity. We've got good players. We need to play our game and if we do that we've got a good chance."

Graham Potter speaking to BBC Sport: "West Ham was a really important point. It's not easy to come back from two goals down twice and it takes a lot of quality. We played well in the second half there and it was a really good point.

"In saying that, it doesn't help us now as we have to start again.

"Nigel Pearson has done really well with a side that's got a lot of talent. They've not had a great season but they've got great players. It'll be a tough game."

  7. Brighton eye a Hornets doublepublished at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2020

    Brighton v Watford (17:30 GMT)

Brighton won the reverse fixture 3-0 on the opening weekend of the season, scoring one more goal than they had in total in the previous seven league meetings.

The hosts are vying to secure their first league double over Watford since 1990-91, when the sides were playing in the second tier.

Watford's only defeat in their past seven league visits to Brighton came in the Premier League in December 2017.

  8. 'We must get over setbacks quickly'published at 17:16 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2020

    Brighton v Watford (17:30 GMT)

Watford head coach Nigel Pearson: "We have an opportunity at the weekend to get back to winning ways and that is what we will try to do.

"It is important we put as much pressure on other teams around us, and we do that by getting our own results right.

"The realism of being involved in a relegation battle is that you have to get over setbacks pretty quickly."

Nigel Pearson is a no-nonsense manager and he'll set clear boundaries for them.

Watford had a bounce and now they've levelled out again.

I've got no fears for them though - they've got good players, a good manager and good characters in their dressing room.

I don't think they'll be anywhere near relegation at the end of the season.

  10. 'We must focus on ourselves'published at 17:07 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2020

    Brighton v Watford (17:30 GMT)

Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Graham Potter: "We need to improve our points tally - and obviously we're focusing on that for the weekend.

"It's not going to give me any comfort looking at the league table and deciding who's in it [the relegation fight] and who's not, we just have to focus on ourselves.

"I think Arsenal have won the same number of games as us, so it just shows you that wins in the Premier League are hard to come by for everybody."

Brighton have a lovely style and are very easy on the eye. They play out from the back and it's pretty to watch. But are the results any better than when Chris Hughton was in charge?

It's going to be tough for them.

  13. 'Pearson should get a reaction'published at 16:58 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2020

    Brighton v Watford (17:30 GMT)

    Mark Lawrenson
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Brighton got a really good point at West Ham last weekend. Fighting back for a draw from 3-1 down is a big positive for Graham Potter and his players - it will feel like a win.

Watford, however, were on the wrong end of a comeback, against Everton, and to lose after being 2-0 up at home was a big blow for them.

But one thing is for certain, Hornets boss Nigel Pearson will have been at his side all week to get a reaction from them this weekend. I think we will see one, but if it is tight towards the end, I think it will be a nervous ending for everyone after what we saw last week.

    Prediction: 1-2

  14. 'Losers in trouble'published at 16:55 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2020

    Brighton v Watford (17:30 GMT)

    Jonathan Pearce
BBC Match of the Day commentator

Brighton's U-turn over Glen Murray was essential. One moment he had no apparent future. Now, with a new contract, Graham Potter says the forward has "a big part to play".

Successful pass and possession stats HAVE risen this season. But the percentage of passes they make in the attacking third per game has dropped from 27.6% to 26.9%, suggesting hold-up play is poor. They also have the division's worst big-chance conversion rate. Murray can change all that if he starts a game Albion must win.

Watford are dipping after their initial rise under Nigel Pearson. But he is getting the best out of Troy Deeney, and the service from wide positions is good.

I predict the losers will be in trouble right to the final day.

There is more chance of man going on the moon again than Everton getting into the Champions League.

Europa League is a realistic shout for them though now.

If you missed it earlier, Everton beat Crystal Palace 3-1 to move into seventh and five points off a Champions League place.

Goals from Bernard, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin secured the win after Christian Benteke had equalised for the visitors.
