    Watford

Abdoulaye Doucoure on Match of the Day: "I'm pleased with the goal I scored. It's my style of play to regain the ball and go straight towards goal. When I see an opportunity to shoot, I will take it.

"We're very frustrated with the goal we conceded but we can do nothing about it.

"I'm happy with our form in recent weeks. The team is better and you've seen a better me. We want better results though.

"Everyone believes we can get out of trouble. We need to take the point and move forward."

  3. The stats...published at 19:50 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2020

    FT: Brighton 1-1 Watford

Watford have dropped 17 points from winning positions in the Premier League this season including eight across their last three games – only West Ham (19) have dropped more points from winning positions in 2019-20.

Brighton have failed to win any of their 24 home Premier League games when conceding the first goal (D10 L14).

Brighton have won just one of their last 11 Premier League games (D6 L4) and remain winless since a 2-0 victory against Bournemouth in December 2019 (P6 D4 L2).

Watford have picked up five points from their last four Premier League away games (W1 D2 L1), as many points as they won in their first nine away league games this season (W1 D2 L6).

  4. 'I'm proud of the players'published at 19:48 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2020

    FT: Brighton 1-1 Watford

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Graham Potter speaking to Match of the Day: "We gave a lot in the game, it was difficult to go behind when we had started quite well and were in the ascendancy.

"The crowd got a little nervous and the atmosphere is difficult. I'm proud of the players because we took responsibility of the game. The character they showed, they accepted the challenge because you could go under at that point - it's not easy to be the one that has to find the answers.

"Aaron Mooy had a good chance before we scored, it's an own goal but it's a good attack.

"We were down on the scoreline, the lads desperately want to get points, get the win, we showed maturity. It's not easy in the Premier League when you are down. I am really proud of the players.

"Every point is what it is and we have to take it. We will look to move forward, take a break now and move forward for Sheffield United."

  5. 'We know what we need to do'published at 19:46 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2020

    FT: Brighton 1-1 Watford

    Brighton & Hove Albion

More from Glenn Murray: "The manager has made me feel wanted and all I can do is give my all for the club. I'm ready to do that. We've been here and we know what we need to do to stay up.

"Having me upfront gives us the option to put a few more balls in the box and perhaps go a bit longer. It's not quite as pretty but hopefully just as effective."

On chasing Tommy Cook as Brighton's all-time record scorer (123 to Murray's 109):"I've just got to take each game and each goal one at a time.

"It'd be a nice achievement to get it but it's still quite an ask."

  6. 'We were the better team'published at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2020

    FT: Brighton 1-1 Watford

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Glenn Murray speaking to Match of the Day: "I think we were the better team going forward but nothing was quite dropping for us. They punished us with a breakaway goal in the first half but we controlled the game.

"We had five or six lads back for their goal and sometimes you've got to give them a bit of credit for a great strike.

"They sat back and soaked up our pressure and we played into their hands a bit. We stopped them from playing on the counter attack but struggled to break them down."

So Brighton and Watford have a fortnight off to stew on that match (luckily for the rest of us we can move swiftly on...)

They head into the winter break knowing there's a fight on their hands to stay in the division when they return on the 22/23 February.

  8. 'Not trying to score an own goal'published at 19:33 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2020

    FT: Brighton 1-1 Watford

    Watford

Watford keeper Ben Foster speaking to BT Sport: "The way the goal went in was very disappointing. Maps (Adrian Mariappa) is not trying to score an own goal, but that's football. It can go against you sometimes.

"The way we dropped back is a symptom of where we are in the league. We tried to defend what we had and thought we could weather the storm.

"Brighton threw it all at us today but if it wasn't for the own goal we would have won."

On winter break plans: "We've got a massive scrap on our hands and that's all we're focussed on. We hold no fear for the next two games (against Manchester United and Liverpool)."

  10. 'We were unlucky in the end'published at 19:29 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2020

    FT: Brighton 1-1 Watford

    Watford

Watford goalscorer Abdoulaye Doucoure on BT Sport: "I wanted to score today to help the team. We are a little bit disappointed about the result but we carry on and fight until the end.

"I score more goals (playing further up the pitch) but the most important is the way I help the team. The lads did a great job, we defended together and it was unlucky in the end."

    FT: Brighton 1-1 Watford

    John Southall
BBC Radio 5 live football reporter at the AMEX Community Stadium

Watford were comfortable but as soon as I said they looked stronger then the game changed.

Brighton improved and scored a fortunate equaliser but overall they didn't create enough clearcut chances.

The result leaves the table looking very similar to before the game.

    And that's it.

Long boot forward from goalkeeper Mat Ryan, but Watford have numbers back and head clear. Brighton hoof it long again, but this is now just an exchange of long, hopeful balls...

  15. YELLOW CARDpublished at 90+4 mins

    Brighton 1-1 Watford

Solly March looks to take on Ignacio Pussetto but is muscled off the ball and then fouls the Watford man, before booting the ball away in frustration. Into the book he goes.

  16. Postpublished at 90+2 mins

    Brighton 1-1 Watford

Neither side can get hold of the ball long enough to mount a serious attack, but Steven Alzate does well to scamper down the line and pull a pass back to the edge of the box... where it finds a yellow shirt.

Chance for Brighton, who work it out to Alireza Jahanbakhsh in space and the substitute can fizz it across goal.

It reaches Leandro Trossard, but the midfielder can only flick it wide.

  19. Postpublished at 89 mins

    Brighton 1-1 Watford

First touch for Danny Welbeck, who brings it down and works the ball right for Troy Deeney, but his pass is over hit and Lewis Dunk can shield it out of play.

  20. Postpublished at 88 mins

    Brighton 1-1 Watford

Watford's only shot on target in this second half has been the Mariappa own goal... and they don't look like changing that.

Brighton are looking a tad more threatening down the other end but Leandro Trossard can't get hold of a zipped through-ball.
