Mike, East Grinstead: If we got rid of all replays in the cups would we even need this winter break?

    Brighton 0-1 Watford

Nice ball that from Leandro Trossard - weaving it into what is better known as the corridor of uncertainty... but there are enough yellow shirts back to scramble clear.

  3. Postpublished at 37 mins

    Brighton 0-1 Watford

Troy Deeney closes Shane Duffy down and bundles the Brighton defender over in a scene that would not have looked out of place in last weekend's Super Bowl.

He shifts it right to Roberto Pereyra, but the Hornets forward can't pick out a team-mate.

  4. YELLOW CARDpublished at 35 mins

    Brighton 0-1 Watford

Ezequiel Schelotto lunges in and catches Gerard Deulofeu to earn himself a spot in the book.

The Brighton man reckons he got the ball, and on closer inspection probably has a point.

    Brighton 0-1 Watford

Nice feet from Solly March to dance beyond Gerard Deulofeu and into the Watford box. His cross is half-cleared to Ezequiel Schelotto and the long-locked full-back has a go himself, but the visitors scramble away.

    Brighton 0-1 Watford

Brighton right-back Ezequiel Schelotto bursts down the flank for the hosts but hits a cross straight at Ben Foster, and Watford go soaring down the other end.

Will Hughes sizes up an effort on the edge of the box and it's deflected behind. Corner.

David Ljunggren: The Brighton defence is still on winter break I see.

Or they're desperately in need of one.

    Brighton 0-1 Watford

Aaron Mooy, name in lights, fancies his chances as the ball drops on the edge of the 18-yard box from Glenn Murray's knock down, but skies it into the English Channel.

  9. Postpublished at 25 mins

    Brighton 0-1 Watford

Etienne Capoue with the sort of sliding, mud-soaked tackle that your grandparents will tell you was part and parcel of the game in their day... very satisfying.

    One shot. One goal.

Nigel Pearson will take that. Hopefully this one will now open up a little bit...

    Abdoulaye Doucoure (19 mins)

    Aha! As I was saying....

Brighton, looking seemingly in control, give it away in their own half through Aaron Mooy and Abdoulaye Doucoure pounces.

The Watford midfielder has time and space to drive towards the Brighton box, open up his body and find the bottom corner with a low, right-footed effort. Lovely finish.

That was Watford's first shot on goal.

    Brighton 0-0 Watford

Good, long diagonal ball from Dan Burn and Adam Masina does well to stop Solly March getting in behind him. Watford looking fairly solid, albeit offering little up top at the moment.

    Brighton 0-0 Watford

Seeing as it's all a bit low-key on the south coast at the moment, let's head over to Japan for some quality finishing.

    Or not.

    Brighton 0-0 Watford

Brighton are knocking it around a little better now and Aaron Mooy's flick almost breaks for Glenn Murray, but again Ben Foster is quickly off his line to smother.

Match of the Day commentator Jonathan Pearce says there were rumours doing the rounds of a late Manchester United bid for Murray before the January transfer window closed...

Matt; If it's supposed to be a winter break, why are there any matches at all?

It's staggered because we've basically got too many games in the season to fit in a full week off for everyone at the same time.

    Brighton 0-0 Watford

Brighton almost find some joy from going direct as Glenn Murray pops a lay-off into Leandro Trossard's path, but Will Hughes does well to recover and get a toe in.

The Seagulls swing it right and Solly March's delivery finds Murray again, who nods towards goal but cannot generate any power and it's easy for Ben Foster to collect.

    Brighton 0-0 Watford

This hasn't really got going yet, a few loose touches and sloppy passes - probably aided by the windy conditions. Etienne Capoue goes down after a collision with Glenn Murray.

Both slowly rise back to their feet.

  18. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Watford

Roberto Pereyra takes the ball on his chest inside the Brighton box and lashes it across goal, but none of his Watford team-mates took a gamble on it.

    I'm with you, Bob.

Solly March hoists it high into the air for the wind to whip the ball around, Dan Burn nods it back across goal and Davy Propper's effort hits Will Hughes - think VAR is having a look to see if it hit and arm, but that's just a corner.
