  1. 'The only negative was we were not more clinical'published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2020

    Southampton 2-0 Aston Villa

    Southampton

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, speaking to Match of the Day: "We had a lot of chances in the first half. The only negative was that we needed to be more clinical. We had 28 shots on goal.

"The good thing today was that we stayed concentrated. We knew we had to do everything to defend our box and congrats to the guys they did their job."

On Che Adams: "It is not easy - seldom to start - but he should know how important he is for me and us. To have two strikers on the bench and be able to bring them on fresh is always good for me."

  2. 'I should have scored a hat-trick'published at 17:19 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2020

Burnley striker Matej Vydra: "I should have scored a hat-trick today, but I scored only one. The most important thing is the three points for us, though."

On his two recent goals: "I don’t know what the secret is. [Ashley] Barnes and [Chris] Wood are injured, so I was lucky to step in. I’m a bit disappointed I didn’t score more, but as I said the win is most important.

"Everyone’s tried to support me and tell me the chance will come. Finally it came and I’ve managed to score."

On Burnley’s second: "I don’t actually know [what happened]. If VAR said it’s handball it was definitely a penalty, but it’s a little disappointing for Bournemouth. If you have that feeling you’ve scored and it turns around, it’s tough. But rules are rules."

On the Clarets’ impressive form: "It’s a good period for us and we need to carry on. We just need to enjoy, keep winning and be happy."

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith, speaking to Match of the Day: "We never laid a glove on them in the first 20 minutes. I try to defend the players but today was not good enough. They were miles off it in the first half. A bit better in the second half. It was a game that could have been won but we didn't create enough and didn't defend enough. They were deserved winners.

"Jack Grealish got in behind them right from kick off and then they went long. They were getting shots and we were getting blocks. We can't keep talking about getting good starts. Not starting well is a concern.

"We can't play that bad again. It gave me a lot of heart seeing them against Tottenham but today was dreadful.

"The fight disappointed me in the first half. There was a bit more fight in the second half. I will take responsibility for the performance because I am the one who picks them."

The only Wilder you need to worry about tonight

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder: "I was so proud of my team's performance today, I thought they were absolutely magnificent. My team went right to the end, in tough conditions.

"The way they attacked the game from the off, recovered from the equaliser and went again, I think there was one team there that was absolutely hanging on for a result in the end and that just shows what sort of performance we put in today.

"There was just a relentless nature of our game, we were knocking on the door and if it don't open, it don't open, but not for want of trying and not for want of an attitude that's exceptional and has been all season.

"Looking at my team I'm absolutely made up, what they give me week in week out, and today was no exception."

  5. 'They won't be playing at Wembley'published at 17:13 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2020

    Southampton 2-0 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith, speaking to Sky Sports: "I wanted to see more fight from the players - show me you care. It is the responsibility of any professional footballer but we never did that. Opportunities were few and far between.

"I am not bothered about the cup final next week, this was our cup final today and we were terrible. Certainly some players have played themselves out of next week."

This is second versus third in the Premier League but the chance to cement their runner’s up spot is arguably the least important game of Manchester City’s week.

Up next is a trip to the Bernabeu to face Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League - where I suspect it might be a little bit warmer than it currently is in the east Midlands - then they head to Wembley to play Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup final.

Leicester fans, who saw their side surprisingly beaten by Villa over two legs in the semi-finals, probably won't be watching that one.

IF fifth ends up being god enough for a place in the Champions League it could be quite a scramble for it.

We've found a way to inject some life into the run-in yet. Maybe this dog of a season will end on a high after all.

  8. 'A game we would have lost a few weeks ago'published at 17:04 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2020

    FT: Sheffield United 1-1 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton's goalscorer Neal Maupay talking to Sky Sports: "I think for us it's a massive point, it's been a really tough game. It's always a tough place to come.

"They played a really good game and most of the game we had to defend, but it's a game we would have lost a few weeks ago, so we're quite happy with this point and we need to build on this for the end of the season.

"I'm happy with my goal. Obviously, I've been struggling a bit in the last few weeks. I wasn't happy at all with myself, but I kept working hard and the manager always supported me even when I was struggling. So I'm happy to have helped the team get a point and hopefully more goals will come.

"We didn't have that much commitment or desire to defend [a few weeks ago], but we know we are in a real battle, so we need to play every game like it's the last one of the season, and that's what we've done."

Leicester v Man City (17:30 GMT)

BBC Sport at King Power Stadium

There are not many grounds where Pep Guardiola has a poor record, but the King Power Stadium is one of them.

He has lost on two out of his three Premier League visits here, and has only won once in regulation time - both City’s wins in the League Cup here under him have come via penalties.

Pep suffered the most here on a wet and windy winter’s day in his debut season, when Jamie Vardy scored a hat-trick in a 4-2 Foxes win.

The wild weather is back this evening, and so is Vardy, joined up front by former City striker Kelechi Iheanacho as Leicester look to blow City away agan.

  13. 'Sheffield United will be disappointed'published at 16:57 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2020

    FT: Sheffield United 1-1 Brighton

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Sheffield United and Chris Wilder will be disapppointed not to take all three points. They've dominated the game. Brighton's game plan for me was to draw, weather the storm. They've defended well, put their bodies on the line - they've not played much football.

Sheffield United had all the ball, but Brighton will be pleased with the point.

Leicester’s lack of fit or available defensive midfielders means their formation will only be clear once the game starts but Christian Fuchs' inclusion in the starting XI means they could operate with a back three.

Fuchs, midfielder Dennis Praet and striker Kelechi Iheanacho are the players that come into the line-up from the side that drew 0-0 with Wolves on 14 February.

Ayoze Perez and Harvey Barnes drop to the bench and Hamza Choudhury is suspended. Also among the Foxes substitutes is Matty James, who is fit after a series of injuries that have sidelined him for over a year.

Leicester XI: Schmeichel, Pereira, Soyuncu, Evans, Fuchs, Chilwell, Tielemans, Maddison, Praet, Vardy, Iheanacho.

    Man CityImage source, BBC Sport

Manchester City make three changes from the side that brushed West Ham aside on Wednesday.

Key defender Aymeric Laporte starts his second successive game at centre-half but this time he is partnered by Fernandinho, not Nicolas Otamendi.

In midfield, Ilkay Gundogan replaces David Silva - who picked up a knock against the Hammers, but drops to the bench.

Up front, Riyad Mahrez gets the nod ahead of Gabriel Jesus, who wasted a series of chances in midweek. Mahrez plays alongside Sergio Aguero and Bernardo Silva.

Raheem Sterling, who is hoping to be back from a hamstring injury in time to face Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday, did not travel with the squad.

Man City XI: Ederson; Walker, Fernandinho, Laporte, Mendy; Gundogan, Rodri, De Bruyne; Bernardo, Aguero, Mahrez
