Very, very disappointing result. There wasn't very much between the teams and 2-0 feels a little harsh. For Scotland to do well in this competition, they have to play their very best and get a bit of luck. Perhaps they used all of their luck getting here

  2. Adams to start against England?published at 17:12 British Summer Time 14 June 2021

I think Adams has a fair chance to start on Friday. We looked a bigger threat when we went two up front. There was more of a target for our wide players, particularly Robertson. He'll know about the England players, playing against them week in, week out - he's not going to be overawed

A selection of your Twitter thoughts...

John Allardice: Poor team selection and a negative mentality gets you exactly what you deserve. Really hoping the manager will make bolder choices for the England game, even if we get a pasting.

Dougie HFC: The wings were where we could’ve won the game. Robertson was excellent on the left & if we’d started with Forrest or Patterson on the right who knows. Long balls up to Dykes against those centre halves wasn’t on.

Malcolm MacKenzie: Will be the same as Ally McLeod not playing an in form Souness in Argentina in 1978 - lose the first two games & be out, before he plays Gilmour in the Croatia game & he plays out of his skin & Scotland win at a canter.

Epsilon One: Long ball is plan B no? Not plan A, B and C! Czechs were not that mobile, we had the players to take it to them but didn't.

  4. 'We need to do it the hard way'published at 17:05 British Summer Time 14 June 2021

    FT: Scotland 0-2 Czech Republic

Scotland midfielder John McGinn on BBC One: "I thought we played pretty well first-half without threatening them too much. The first goal is a poor one to lose. The second one is a brilliant strike but again we can do better. We played all right, 2-0 flattered them a wee bit, but they found quality at the right moments. We need to find it on Friday.

"I don’t think it’s a reality check. Overall we played pretty well, there are things we can improve on, but it’s the first game of the tournament. We’ve got to two games to fix what we need to fix and it’s important we don’t sulk too much. We need to do it the hard way now."

  6. Clarke 'hopeful' Tierney will be fit for Englandpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 14 June 2021

    FT: Scotland 0-2 Czech Republic

On Kieran Tierney's chances of being fit to face England, Scotland head coach Steve Clarke said: "I’m hopeful. I wouldn’t be getting overexcited about it. He’s been an integral part of how we’ve played recently. The boys who came in, by and large, we defended well, if you take out the set-play and the clever play from their striker. We missed Kieran.

"It was a big effort today, different players are available, I’ll have a good think about it. We’ll go back to base camp, lick our wounds for 24 hours and get ready for the game on Friday."

  7. 'It's a good learning experience' - Clarkepublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 14 June 2021

    FT: Scotland 0-2 Czech Republic

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke on BBC One: "It was quite an even game, not much in it. They were more clinical. Losing a goal off a second-phase set-play was disappointing and the boy’s had a wonderful strike from a shot from Jack Hendry that fell perfectly for him. When we had our chances, we didn’t quite take them.

"It’s a good learning experience. We didn’t come here to learn but you still have to lean your lessons and take your chances when they present themselves, make sure you stay in the game and get something from it.

"We played some good stuff, could have been a little braver on the ball first-half. It was quite a tense first half, not a lot of space. Just the way the game panned out, both teams nullified each other for the first 45 minutes. We didn’t work enough to get behind them in the first half. Lots to learn for everybody."

We need Czech Republic to do us a favour against Croatia, so we'll be supporting them in that game. They are a solid team, but Schick gives them real quality

Scotland fans have seen their team's first appearance in a major tournament in 23 years end in a disappointing 2-0 defeat.

About 12,000 people were in Hampden Park in Glasgow to watch the Euro 2020 match against the Czech Republic.

A further 3,000 people watched from a fan zone in the city, with many more expected to watch on TV from home or in pubs.

But goals in either half from Patrik Schick left the Tartan Army crushed.

  11. 'Captain's performance from Robertson'published at 16:38 British Summer Time 14 June 2021

    FT: Scotland 0-2 Czech Republic

    Darren Fletcher
Former Scotland international on BBC One

    Quote Message

Andy Robertson is a world class left-back and he showed that here today - a captain's performance, drove the team on. He does it for Liverpool, he does it for Scotland. He's fantastic. But he won't be thinking 'I've played well today'. His team lost 2-0 and he was captain - that's all he will be thinking about

  12. 'You can't say we've not created'published at 16:35 British Summer Time 14 June 2021

    FT: Scotland 0-2 Czech Republic

Scotland captain Andy Robertson on BBC One: "It’s hard to put your finger on it just now. Everyone in the country wanted to get off to a good start. We were confident, excited, and it comes down to not taking our chances.

"You can't say we’ve not created, we’ve had some really, really good chances that we should have done better with. If you do better on that, then it’s a different game. It’s a tough lesson for us that at the highest level, at the best tournaments, you have to take your chances. Czech Republic did that, we didn’t."

    Quote Message

We missed Kieran Tierney really badly today. Overloads don't just happen in games. Movement creates overloads, stepping into the midfield, and we didn't do that as a back three

  14. 'We were ready for Scotland'published at 16:29 British Summer Time 14 June 2021

    FT: Scotland 0-2 Czech Republic

Czech Republic goalscorer Patrik Schick tells BBC Sport: "It's always hard to play against us, we have a lot of hardworking players.

"Scotland were a tough opponent. But we were ready for their tactics."

On his second wonder goal, he says: "I saw him [off his line], I checked in the first half when this situation would come. I was checking where he was standing."

Former Scotland striker on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

I'm sick, I'm flat. We brought so much to the game, but nothing went our way. They were clinical, they were ruthless, and the two chances that they took killed us.

  16. 'Don't write us off at Wembley'published at 16:23 British Summer Time 14 June 2021

    FT: Scotland 0-2 Czech Republic

    Quote Message

This team have been written off before but have come back. I'm not ruling us out against England by any stretch of the imagination. Pick yourselves up, go to Wembley and who knows what can happen? We've got good enough players, we've a bit of character about us and we've just got to go there and prove that

  18. 'At this level, you do need to be clinical'published at 16:17 British Summer Time 14 June 2021

    FT: Scotland 0-2 Czech Republic

Scotland midfielder Stuart Armstrong on BBC One: "It was a difficult one, the game was very compact, there wasn’t much space, and we were playing too many long balls for our liking. When we passed it, we did quite well but it was hard to break them down.

"Disappointed with the way the first goal went in, apart from that we defended pretty well, and they showed real qualify for the second goal. Not to say we didn’t have chances second-half, we did, and tried to push. They were clinical. At this level you do need to be clinical.

"We need to take experiences of today, learn from what happened, make a few little tweaks to our game. Fundamentally there were some positive moments and we have to carry that through to Friday.

"We’ve got two chances to produce a good performance and get something from it."

I think we missed John McGinn getting on the ball, but he was getting man-marked by Soucek, who did a great job on him. We did create plenty of chances and that's something we shouldn't forget
