  1. Arrivederci

    FT: Italy 1-0 Wales

Wales players applaud the fans in Rome

So that's it from Rome. We bid you goodnight, but Wales' European Championship campaign is not over by any means.

Wales have qualified for three major finals and they have made it out of the first stage on all three occasions. They will head to Amsterdam knowing they have every chance of reaching the last eight.

Gareth Bale is fit and firing, Aaron Ramsey looks great too and it's going to be a cracking week for Wales fans looking forward to their last-16 clash.

The Ethan Ampadu red card was unfortunate, but hopefully he can redeem himself later in the tournament.

You can hear even more reaction over on Radio Wales with Call Rob.

Wales march on. Let's do it all again on Saturday! Thank you for joining us.

    Nos da!

  2. Final table

    FT: Italy 1-0 Wales

    Group A table

This makes good reading. Wales are off to Amsterdam for a last-16 game next Saturday (17:00 BST). They will find out who they play on Monday.

They will face the runners-up from Group B (Belgium, Russia, Finland or Denmark).

Belgium are through and will top the group with a draw against Finland on Monday (20:00).

Russia, who face Denmark at the same time, have three points - the same number as Finland heading into the last round of group games. Denmark have yet to win a point.

  3. 'The red card was unbelievable' - Page

    FT: Italy 1-0 Wales

    Robert Page

Wales manager Robert Page has been talking about Ethan Ampadu's red card on BBC Radio Wales.

"It didn't quite go to plan the press in the first half.

"We addressed it at half-time and we managed to get Ethan Ampadu as the centre of the diamond and get him on the ball a little bit more at the start of the second half.

"The sending-off changed the course of the game. I haven't seen it again yet. I thought it was harsh to get a booking but to see the red card come out was unbelievable. Then of course it's an even bigger hill to climb."

  4. Post update

    FT: Italy 1-0 Wales

    Chris Sutton

Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It was going to be difficult today. The Italians have such a strong squad and for Wales to hold on in the manner they did was important for them.

  6. 'It was very difficult, but I think we deserved to win' - Mancini

    FT: Italy 1-0 Wales

    Roberto Mancini

Roberto Mancini told ITV Sport: "We are happy, we are happy.

"But after the group stage, it is a new competition.

"The guys are very clever. They want to win every game. They have a good mentality. We changed eight, but played a very good game.

"Wales is a good team, it was very difficult to win, but I think we deserved to win."

  7. Post update

    FT: Italy 1-0 Wales

    Natasha Harding

Wales international on BBC Radio Wales

I'd be more than confident of the boys getting a result against Finland.

Russia are very different to five years ago so they're a lesser known.

If Wales can play like they did against Turkey, I'm confident.

This game was damage limitation, there was no pressure, just don't lose by two or three goals.

  8. Next stop Wembley for the Azzuri

    FT: Italy 1-0 Wales

    View more on twitter

Italy will head to Wembley next, playing on Saturday night in the 8pm kick-off.

They will face the runners-up from the group featuring the Netherlands, Ukraine, Austria and North Macedonia.

Wales will play in Amsterdam at 5pm on the same night.

  9. 'You can never question this team - we dug in'

    FT: Italy 1-0 Wales

Aaron Ramsey battles for the ball with Italy's Giacomo Raspadori

Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey told ITV Sport:

"It was tough for long periods. We were up against a great team who have gone 30 games unbeaten - that's some achievement.

"But we showed great character, you can never question this team, we always give everything and we dug in.

"I feel sorry for Ethan [Ampadu] - it was a bit harsh maybe. He certainly caught him, it was one of those decisions that could have gone either way.

"It was important to create a couple of opportunities and we could have nicked a draw on another day. We need to be more consistent throughout the game but we are through in second place and we are delighted."

  10. WATCH AGAIN: Ampadu sent off for Wales

    FT: Italy 1-0 Wales

An unwanted piece of history for Ethan Ampadu, the youngest player to receive a straight red card in European Championship history.

He will now serve a one match ban. Did you think it was a red card?

  11. Post update

    FT: Italy 1-0 Wales

    Mark Hughes

Former Wales manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

Without a shadow of a doubt if we have to face Finland or Russia you'd snap your hand off for that - I don't think either are to fear.

  12. 'I am proud of the boys'

    FT: Italy 1-0 Wales

Wales captain Gareth Bale told ITV Sport: "We knew it would be very difficult from the start.

"A lot of running and defending, I am proud of the boys.

    "We have made it through.

"I didn't see too much of the red card. It was unfortunate. We had to dig deep and we did that.

"We have to recover now and take the break and get ready to get going again.

"With my chance I couldn't quite get over the ball, but it makes no difference in the end, we finish second."

    Gareth Bale
  13. 'If you'd said 1-0 to Italy beforehand, I'd have taken it'

    FT: Italy 1-0 Wales

    Kevin Ratcliffe

Former Wales captain on BBC Radio Wales

It was a bit nailbiting but when it got down to 10 minutes to go and it was a two-goal swing needed it wasn't so bad. Before the game if you'd said to me it would be 1-0 to Italy I'd have taken it. I think during his time in Italy Aaron Ramsey has learned his defensive responsibilities as a midfielder.

    FT: Italy 1-0 Wales

We can now bring you some highlights. This could have been Wales' most famous major finals goal ever!

  16. Post update

    FT: Italy 1-0 Wales

    Ashley Williams

Former Wales captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

I'm absolutely buzzing, so happy for the boys. Not as nervous as Rob was making it out there! We're done and dusted. I'm over the moon, a great performance from our boys.
