I've been really impressed with Mikkel Damsgaard, he's got great technical skill, gets into good areas and looks like a player of quality.

That influence of Christian Eriksen is something they need to replace and he might be one to do that for Denmark.

"Wales-Denmark is the tightest game in this second round but the Danes are favourites according to Gracenote's Euro 2020 forecast with 58% chance of progress compared to 42% for Wales."

Goalkeeper Danny Ward insists he'll have nothing to prove against Leicester City team-mate Kasper Schmeichel when Wales play Denmark in the Euro 2020 last 16 on Saturday.

It seems Kasper Schmeichel is another member of the Danny Ward fan club.

Here is what the Denmark goalkeeper had to say about his Leicester teammate yesterday at Denmark's pre-match press conference.

"He is an amazing goalkeeper. He has all the qualities required for a good goalkeeper," he said.

"We have great competition and have a really good relationship.

"I don't see any weakness in him. He's a complete goalkeeper."

Denmark's first game should have been cancelled so I don't read much into that result.

They had a lot of possession against Belgium and held their own and took an early lead and weren't able to hold on.

They've got a lot of quality in their side. This won't be an easy match by any stretch.

It was estimated there would be 5,000 Danes here today.

Judging by the noise and the number of Danish flags and shirts around the Johan Cruyff Arena, that estimate is way off.

There are absolutely loads here, with estimates now suggesting as many as 16,000.

Gareth Bale has so much quality not just on the pitch but off the pitch behind the scenes.

A lot of the reasons they've done so well in 2016 and now is because of people like him.

The fact he's so calm and laid back and a joker of the pack.

When it's time to get serious he leads by example and it's why some of the youngsters have settled so easily.

  13. 'It was a Father's Day I won't forget'published at 16:26 British Summer Time 26 June 2021

    Wales v Denmark (17:00 BST)

Sunday was a Father's Day which will live with Danny Ward forever.

The goalkeeper played superbly as Wales qualified for the Euro 2020 knockout stages despite losing 1-0 to Italy in Rome, making several saves to ensure his side scraped through on goal difference.

While he was celebrating Wales' progress with his team-mates in the changing room, it suddenly occurred to Ward that it was Father's Day.

So the 27-year-old returned to the Stadio Olimpico pitch, sat by one of the goals, leant on a post and made a video call to his 20-month-old son, Albie.

"It's tough being away from family but it's a Father's Day I won't forget," the Leicester City player said.

"It's moments like that when you realise why you want to do these things. I spoke to my father as well afterwards. Surreal, really.

"I was sat in the changing room and it dawned on me that it was Father's Day so I thought I had best go and speak to my son and dad. It was an off-the-cuff thing.

"I was lucky enough to be in surroundings that were quite amazing so I thought, 'Why not share it with them?'"

Denmark are likely to have more possession but we've dealt with that.

We've always found a way and given the threat on the break Wales have we shouldn't worry too much about percentages of possession and Denmark will know that.

    Wales v Denmark (17:00 BST)

Almost 30 years ago, Denmark pulled off the seemingly impossible - they won the European Championship for the first time.

To this day, the players in that team are afforded almost celebrity status - a group of legends who realised a nation's dream.

Now Denmark have new heroes to cheer - the current group having overcome huge adversity following the distressing scenes of Christian Eriksen's on-pitch collapse in their Euro 2020 group opener to reach the knockout stages of the tournament.

Today they face Wales in their last-16 tie in Amsterdam, but can the Danes replicate the feat of that famous 1992 team and go all the way?

Unity after adversity - are Denmark European Championship dark horses again?

  17. A fairy tale in Denmarkpublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 26 June 2021

    Wales v Denmark (17:00 BST)

"They have not done it for themselves, they have done it for one player."

When Denmark players celebrated their victory over Russia, which sent them through to the last 16 of the European Championship, it was an outpouring of emotion like no other.

After witnessing team-mate Christian Eriksen suffer a cardiac arrest in the same stadium just nine days ago, Denmark's players and supporters came together on an unforgettable evening in Copenhagen.

With two defeats from their first two games, qualification for the knockout stage had seemed as unlikely as the fairy tales Denmark is famous for.

"It's a Denmark win for Christian. You can see and hear what it means in Copenhagen," said BBC commentator Guy Mowbray at full-time.

"It truly is another terrific tale written in the land of Hans Christian Andersen. From tragedy and despair to utter, utter joy. They don't write them like that often."
