Will Emerson have the same impact as Leonardo Spinazzola down that left side? It is clear Italy are still determined to focus many of their attacks down that area of the pitch as Emerson gives chase to a ball but can't keep it in play.

Surprised at Morata not being included. Obviously Bonucci and Chiellini know him so well. Maybe there was something around that.

It is interesting to see how the Spanish three line up at the moment. We though Oyarzabal might be playing down the middle, but at the moment it looks like Dani Olmo is playing the central role.

I was thinking this one might take a while to get going before launching into its stride but a great tempo to the game already in these early stages as now Spain attack but Dani Olmo can't quite get his feet right inside the Italy box.

Josh Hammond: THE LITTLE CAR IS BACK! THIS GAME IS ALREADY AMAZING!

Ashley Burton: Tough one to predict. Italy have been the best team of the tournament. Spain have improved throughout the rounds. Italy could go all the way. I’d think if England qualify I’d rather face Spain.

Nathan Bright: Are there no words to the Spanish national anthem? If this is won in the choir stalls there's only one winner.

I know it's the law but it's so shoddy, just put the flag up! Amazing bit of play but that is so frustrating.

Early chance for Italy as Nicolò Barella peels away from the defence to run onto Emerson's ball down the left. Barella is forced wide inside the box but does really well to cut back inside and then bend a shot against the far post.

The flag then goes up with Barella having been offside at the start of the move, but a warning sign for Spain.

Boos as Spain have the ball before a huge cheer as Jorginho cuts out a pass. Feels like the Italians have the edge in the supporters stakes.

It did almost take out Jorginho though as it whizzed to the centre circle.

A belting belt out once again by the Italians.

Everyone's day should just start with a playing of the Italian national anthem.

A great atmosphere at Wembley, hard to tell who is winning the shouting contest so far - both sets of fans are very loud.

Is this dangerous for Italy? Everything has been going so well - the expectations are growing within the country they have the belief and they're up against a Spanish team of no hopers. The pressure's on - Italy weren't overly comfortable against Belgium, Belgium had big opportunities in that game that they didn't take and the same against Austria. I'm not sure this is going to be one sided.

    Guillem Balague
Spanish football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

We respect Italy a lot, but we are not scared of them. After three tournaments in which it was failure, after failure, after failure it's been like what do we do? We shot ourselves in the foot in Russia getting rid of Lopetegui two days before it starts.

But now with Luis Enrique, let's go and enjoy ourselves guys because there are much bigger things than a football game, but at the same time let's do it this way, with these players and basically giving us a bit of identity. If we come out of here being defeated, it doesn't matter. If we actually get to the final, I'm telling you - stop thinking about this tournament as a reference point for anything.

Former Italy forward Alessandro Del Piero speaking on BBC One: "I have been quite impressed with this Italian side. They have improved step by step including the last one against Belgium. The way they faced them, they was so confident and the chemistry between the players and tactically they was perfect.

"It is still a long way to reach the final goal but we can only say good things about Italy now."

Luis Enrique always gives us surprises. He always has one or two changes. It is funny how they went through the tournament, they struggled they had a bit of a rollercoaster and you thought they was going to go home.

But no they are in semi-finals. They are able to step it up when it really matters, you think Italy are on the front foot but Spain knows how to react in these big, big matches so don't underestimate them.

  17. Remembering the last time Spain were a dominant force in Europepublished at 19:48 British Summer Time 6 July 2021

It has been nine years since Spain were a serious force in international football.

At Euro 2020 are seeking to replicate the feats of the iconic team which won back-to-back European Championships in 2008 and 2012, as well as the World Cup in 2010.

But that period of dominance was the exception rather than the rule. Prior to those glory years Spain had endured disappointment after disappointment. And in the decade or so that has followed, those familiar feelings have returned - in the previous three tournaments they have either been eliminated at the group stage or in the last 16.

Now, Luis Enrique and his Euro 2020 squad are attempting to reassert Spain's position at the top of the European football pecking order. But they have a long way to go to match the achievements of their illustrious predecessors.

Spanish football writer Guillem Balague tells the story of the most successful team of modern international football.

Luck may play a part if Italy do go on to win Euro 2020, but it certainly won't come down to the toss of a coin like it did on their path to their first and so far only European Championship triumph back in 1968.

    Jurgen Klinsmann
Former Germany head coach on BBC One

It's remarkable what Mancini has achieved with the Italian team already over the last couple of years. Obviously they didn't qualify for Russia which was a huge disappointment. But he brought this team back on track with attractive football.

Actually not an Italian type of football, because he is going high pressure, he is going forward he is going attacking, he has given this Italian side a completely new face.
