    Dion Dublin
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Some indecision there - Italy have the corner and the two centre-halves come up and Nicolo Barella and Federico Chiesa are not sure what to do - there's not much communication between the Italians at the moment and they're still not sure how to deal with the three up top for Spain.

    Italy 0-0 Spain

Now Spain win a corner as Ciro Immobile's shot is deflected behind.

Koke sends the ball in but Gianluigi Donnarumma gets a strong punch in to clear.

They have looked dangerous on the attack Italy, but they want to get Chiesa on the ball more and use his pace.

Both goalkeepers have not got their kicking boots on at all as Unai Simon slices a clearance that eventually results in an Italy corner.

Fortunately, Aymeric Laporte is able to bail out Simon with a thumping clearance from the delivery.

Someone has to get in and around Busquets to stop him controlling the pace of this game because everything is going through him and it's magnificent to watch. Italy have to try and stop that, but they also have to catch them on the break and get more possession.

  6. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

    Italy 0-0 Spain

Will a tactical tussle give way to a glut of goals in this half?

    We're back up and running!

  7. Simon 'playing a risky game'published at 21:01 British Summer Time 6 July 2021

    HT: Italy 0-0 Spain

    Jurgen Klinsmann
Former Germany head coach on BBC One

The game that the Spain goalkeeper is playing is very, very risky. Barella got blocked when he had a chance to finish earlier. With the presence of Simon so far out of his box there might be opportunities for Italy to hit them on the break with a ball over the back line.

  8. 'Spain aren't causing enough problems'published at 21:00 British Summer Time 6 July 2021

    HT: Italy 0-0 Spain

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC One

Spain had one good opportunity that should have been in the of the net, but they're are not causing them enough problems with all the possession they've had.

  10. Missing the 'final piece of the jigsaw'published at 20:59 British Summer Time 6 July 2021

    Italy 0-0 Spain

    Rio Ferdinand
Former England defender on BBC One

We all sat here and thought this would be a cagey and slow game but the tempo has surprised me.

Spain have put Italy under the cosh in the first half, even thought the Italians have been one of the most impressive teams.

We know Spain can keep the ball but when they get into the opposition box you want to see the end product. Pedri has been exhilarating with his passing, but the final piece of the jigsaw has not been there.

  11. 'Busquets is ridiculous in the midfield'published at 20:58 British Summer Time 6 July 2021

    HT: Italy 0-0 Spain

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC One

Spain are dominating possession. Busquets is ridiculously good in midfield, they way he's trying to dominate the midfield. He has a radar going on around him knowing where everyone is and where to pass.

Italy are very dangerous on the break. They've created great chances just don't have anyone to finish them off just yet.

  12. 'Spain can't put the ball in the back of the net'published at 20:58 British Summer Time 6 July 2021

    HT: Italy 0-0 Spain

    Dion Dublin
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Great first half. Good football. Italy were just off it for me. The Spanish are trying to draw the Italian's out. They've done it. They've found the gaps, they've created the chances but it's Spain's problem. They can't put that ball in the back of the net. They're not working the keeper enough after working really hard to create the chances.

    Pedri's touchmap

Pedri has completed 31 of his 31 passes attempted in first half against Italy (22 of 22 in the opposition half), the only player in the match with a 100% of successful passes.

  14. 'Italy surprised by Spain'published at 20:56 British Summer Time 6 July 2021

    HT: Italy 0-0 Spain

    Jurgen Klinsmann
Former Germany head coach on BBC One

I think Italy were a little bit surprised by Spain's high pressure. They didn't let them breathe, they didn't let them play out from the back so they had to go long balls.

Definitely a change in the Italian's approach is that they do not have Spinazzola at left back so no full back is going forward for the Italian team so that makes them not as dangerous.

  15. 'Mancini has some thinking to do'published at 20:56 British Summer Time 6 July 2021

    Italy 0-0 Spain

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

    ManciniImage source, Getty Images

Spain have totally dominated Italy, there was the Unai Simon error that was a big opportunity but Spain have had the biggest and best chances in the half but they haven't taken them. They've been brilliant on the ball in possession but you just wonder whether the effort they've put in in this half off the ball, pressing so high and pushing, whether they will be tired.

But it's Roberto Mancini who has the thinking to do at half time.

  16. 'Olmo wearing out the centre backs'published at 20:53 British Summer Time 6 July 2021

    HT: Italy 0-0 Spain

    Jurgen Klinsmann
Former Germany head coach on BBC One

    OlmoImage source, Getty Images

When you play a false nine you do not have enough players in the box. Olmo is playing a tremendously good game, the good thing is he wears out the centre backs.

The bad thing is if the wingers are not coming in and having a presence in the box and giving you a hand you are not going to score a goal.

Rachel T: This is like watching a game of chess with lots of extravagant hand gestures.

Ed: Bring back David Villa! He would have scored that. He would have scored all of those chances.

Paritosh Pandey: 1. Italy has great counterattack 2. Pedri and Ferran have great ball knowledge 3. Olmo 's finishing needs to improve. Great positioning and dedication though.

Italy haven't got going yet but I'm not sure I trust that Spanish high line. But Italy haven't been brave enough on the ball.
