  2. 'We're not going to use tiredness as an excuse'published at 16:57 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2020

    FT: Tottenham 2-3 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves goalscorer Matt Doherty speaking to Match of the Day: "To win 3-2 is pretty special. In the first half they knocked it about a bit, made it uncomfortable for us. We didn't think we were particularly good, so to come back with a performance like that in the second half, pretty good.

"We seem to get stronger as the game goes on. We're fighting on two fronts in the Europa League and the Premier League but the places we want to go, we're not going to use tiredness as an excuse. These teams are playing games in the Champions League all the time so that's no excuse.

"We've got two opportunities to try and do something really special. We're in a bit of a good moment at the moment, our goal is to try and finish the season unbeaten and see where it takes us."

  4. 'Very unfair for my team to lose'published at 16:56 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2020

    FT: Tottenham 2-3 Wolves

    Tottenham Hotspur

More from Jose Mourinho, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a great game. My team didn't deserve to lose at all. Is difficult to find a reason to lose the game, apart froma couple of individual mistakes. The team was good, they were in control.

"In the beginning of the game we were surperb, [Wolves] were really in trouble I would say. They gave everything and of course in the last period of the game they know what we cannot do, and then they just compact with everybody in the box and that is obviously the most difficult thing for us in this moment.

"It's really, really frustrating and I'm sad obviously but I am more more sad for the players. Good individual efforts, collective as well. We score two goals, create more chances, arrive in very dangerous positions. But according to our difficulties, I think the team didn't deserve to lose at all.

"You are 2-2 and you have the dominance of the game and they can only hurt you on the counter-attack, you have to be ruthless in these situations. Football is about points and who scores wins, but I think very unfair for my team to lose."

  5. 'We didn't deserve the defeat'published at 16:55 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2020

    FT: Tottenham 2-3 Wolves

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs manager Jose Mourinho talking to Match of the Day: "I think it is unfair. The players didn't deserve the defeat. We were punished by, I would say, mentality mistakes. You have to be ruthless against teams like Wolves that play fantastically well on the counter-attack.

"We deserve much more than these results but this is what it is. The front three combined well, they did what they can. They did the plan that we worked on in the week. We had lots of arrivals in dangerous positions, but it is quite frustrating to see they don't have that feeling.

"I think Eric Dier played very, very well at centre-back, so when the player you bring in as a replacement plays very, very well the question could be why did you play Dier and not why did you leave out Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

"I tried to play with Davinson Sanchez and Tanganga which are the two fastest players. Dier is because he is a midfield player, he has the possibility to come out with the ball and play as an extra midfield player. I thought they did very well apart from the goals which are collective responsibility, not individual responsibility."

  7. Ancelotti to keep referee conversation 'private'published at 16:52 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2020

    FT: Everton 1-1 Man Utd

    Everton

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti, speaking to Sky Sports on his sending off at full-time:"I have a lot of things to say, I asked the referee to explain after the game and he sent me off, then I spoke after with him - I will keep our conversation private - but it was a situation if Gylfi [Sigurdsson] was offside but in our view he didn't affect the vision of [David] de Gea.

"As I say the vision was clear but it was offside - you have to decide if the vision [of de Gea] is affected or not and everyone knows the decision can be viewed differently."

On potentially missing the game at former club Chelsea through suspension: "I hope not, I didn't disrespect the referee but if I am banned I will go in the stand at Stamford Bridge. I have to speak but it is not a big problem if we prepare for the game well.

"We played really well, I'm happy for this, we have to continue, no complaints, and we have to look forward. The performance was really good against a really good team and we were competitive all the time."

  8. 'This is the life of the goalkeeper'published at 16:50 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2020

    FT: Everton 1-1 Man Utd

    Everton

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti on Jordan Pickford's performance: "He did well. I don't want to judge individual performances. He tried to do his best - sometimes it was good and sometimes he could do better, but this is the life of the goalkeeper."

Interesting stat from our friends at Opta...

David De Gea has made seven errors leading directly to an opposition goal in the Premier League since the start of last season.

That's the joint-most alongside - you've guessed it - Jordan Pickford, plus Newcastle's Martin Dubravka and Arsenal's Bernd Leno.

  10. 'We felt we deserved the three points'published at 16:48 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2020

    FT: Everton 1-1 Man Utd

    Everton

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford speaking Match of the Day: "I’m a passionate lad and I hate the ball going into the back of the net, so I was happy with the saves that I made.

"The dressing room is deflated, I know Manchester United are a top side, but we felt we deserved the three points, we know that we are capable of doing against the big sides, and are disappointed not to get the three points, but it was a good performance."

On conceding: "I was half a yard out of position and that’s the difference in football."

David de Gea isn't the only goalkeeper under scrutiny at the moment.

Everton counterpart Jordan Pickford was also at fault for the goal his side conceded, allowing Bruno Fernandes' strike to creep inside his near post.

But, like De Gea, the England international atoned for his error with a late double save which stopped United nicking what was likely to be the winner.

  12. 'De Gea said he was distracted'published at 16:44 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2020

    Everton 1-1 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Man Utd manager Ole Gunnar Solskaer speaking to BBC Sport on David de Gea's error for Everton's goal: "It's something that happens in football once in a while if you take too long on the ball. Calvert-Lewin always chases everything and it's unfortunate that it goes in the goal. We responded and got the goal we deserved."

On January signing Bruno Fernandes' impact: "He's a good player and we have been missing that type of player to do that for us, I'm very pleased with his contribution."

On the end to the game: "It was a lively end to the game - we thought we could and should have won it and then it was drama at the other end. "David [De Gea] told me he gets distracted because he [Gylfi Sigurdsson] is there. His save to his right was fantastic - I was 100% sure that would be a goal."

David de Gea had another moment to forget at Goodison.

The Manchester United gifted Everton the lead when he dawdled on a back pass and his clearance hit Dominic Calvert-Lewin to bounce in for the opener.

Credit to the Spaniard though, his late save from Gylfi Sigurdsson - which ultimately earned United a draw - was brilliant.

  14. 'We had the first half and they had the second'published at 16:40 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2020

    FT: Everton 1-1 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a game of two halves - first half, we were excellent. But a very strange start, you shouldn’t be 1-0 down like that.

"After that we played fantastic football and we should have been leading at half time, we could have won it at the end. We defended all second half and pleased with a point.

"One point each, is what both teams deserve we had the first half and they had the second."

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been a player reborn under Carlo Ancelotti.

The Everton number nine has scored 13 Premier League goals this season – the last English player to score more in a single campaign for the Toffees was Paul Rideout in 1994-95 (14).

Since Ancelotti’s arrival, Calvert-Lewin has scored more Premier League goals than any other player in the competition (eight).

Sure England manager Gareth Southgate, watching in the Goodison stands, would have been impressed.

  16. For me it was a goal - Calvert-Lewinpublished at 16:36 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2020

    Everton 1-1 Man Utd

    Everton

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who also scored the injury-time disallowed goal, speaking to Sky Sports: "In the moment I wasn't sure if it was a goal or not but seeing it back I think Gyfli on the floor doesn't obstruct the line of sight.

"Fair enough he was in an offside position but then it takes a deflection and he moves his legs out the way. The keeper wasn't going to save it.

"For me, as a striker, it was a goal, but VAR said otherwise. Sometimes things like that go for you, sometimes they don't."

Carlo Ancelotti is smiling as he waits for his post-match television interview. He certainly wasn't when he was talking to referee Chris Kavanagh at the end of the match.

"In our opinion he wasn't blocking the vision of De Gea," Ancelotti says.

  18. 'Linesman should raise his flag'published at 16:24 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2020

    Everton 1-1 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Man Utd captain Harry Maguire speaking to BBC Sport on Everton's disallowed goal: "I understand the reaction, the crowd is emotional but the linesman should put his flag up. We will take the point, we came for three but we dug in.

"We showed a great reaction and dominated the game from when they scored and deserved to come in level at half time. We dug in deep and if you can't win three you take one point."

On Man Utd's chance to win the game: "It was a great reaction save [by Jordan Pickford], it was an unbelievable chance to win the game - and David pulled off a world class save for us too."

I agree with all the criticism of Mourinho. He is well past it now. Tactically naive and has been found out. Spurs will have to spend big to pay him off unfortunately.

As much as I love Solskjaer as a player, man, and role model, I'm just not sure this display shows any progress. Think it's sadly time to make a change
