    Hull 1-2 Brentford

Brentford are winning and in control, but they've been very ordinary by their standards.

The number of overhit passes and crosses is startling.

Hull simply don't have the quality and composure to do anything about it.

Aleksander Pagels: Peter Enckelman can finally feel better about himself.

Not the worst comparison, albeit this was from an aimless 50-yard pass forward instead of a throw-in...

  4. CLOSE!published at 34 mins

    Hull 1-2 Brentford

Said Benrahma has a shot cleared off the line by Ryan Tafazolli and then Hull keeper George Long makes a low save!

This is a very peculiar match which is suiting Brentford down to the ground.

Is this really a Championship game I'm watching? Are these players just stunt doubles? The quality has been extremely poor at times.

    Ryan Tafazolli (29 mins)

WHAT AM I WITNESSING HERE?! Hull have one back.

Home defender Ryan Tafazolli plays a fairly aimless ball forward from halfway for Brentford keeper David Raya to deal with, but the Spaniard inexplicably lets the ball go through his feet and into the goal.

A few of these players were up late watching the transfer deadline day coverage, me thinks!

    Hull 0-2 Brentford

Hull's first shot of any note sees defender Eric Lichaj sidefoot over from range.

They started relatively promisingly but have fragile confidence after recent results and the loss of Jarrod Bowen and Kamil Grosicki on deadline day.

Brentford seem happy enough to pick them off at will.

    Hull 0-2 Brentford

That was Reece Burke's second own goal of the season, by the way.

Before today Hull had failed to score with any of their last 41 shots in the Championship since a Jarrod Bowen goal on New Year's Day.

It's a long way back against this Brentford side, who have grown in confidence since a sluggish start.

    Reece Burke og (21 mins)

    Absolutely calamitous from Hull!

They'd been at sixes and sevens since going behind and as Ollie Watkins heads the ball downwards, keeper George Long slips and Reece Burke inadvertently flicks the ball on into his own goal.

It's a catalogue of errors and the fans have started to turn their anger towards Hull owner Assem Allam.

  9. CLOSE!published at 20 mins

    Hull 0-1 Brentford

That Said Benrahma opener has made an already-quiet KCOM Stadium even more library-like.

There was a bit of an inquest after the goal... could George Long have saved it?

Bryan Mbeumo curls wide for Brentford and then forces a save from Long. Hull are all over the place.

    Hull 0-1 Brentford

    How quickly things change.

Almost immediately after going ahead Ollie Watkins puts a ball across for Mathias Jensen, who has his shot in the box blocked as Brentford chase a quick second goal.

Hull are missing their two departed talismen and need not to panic.

Hull fall asleep from a corner, allowing Brentford to take it short and find Said Benrahma - who moves inside onto his right foot and caresses the ball low into the far corner from outside the box.

The Algerian takes off his shirt to reveal a message dedicated to his father, who recently passed away.

Referee Darren Bond sticks to the letter of the law and books the forward.

    Hull 0-0 Brentford

    That's better from Brentford.

Bryan Mbeumo is oh so close to getting onto the end of a deep cross at the end of a team move.

Credit to Hull forward Keane Lewis-Potter - he was the man tracking back to put Mbeumo off.

    Hull 0-0 Brentford

It comes to nothing but Thomas Frank's Bees could do with slowing things down a tad to get into their usual passing rhythm.

Hull haven't had to do much to be on top in the early exchanges.

Brentford are off the pace here, as shown by Julian Jeanvier's late challenge on a marauding Jackson Irvine.

Hull have the chance to put the ball in the box...

  15. CLOSE!published at 6 mins

    Hull 0-0 Brentford

It's been a sloppy start but Hull have the first opening of sorts.

The recalled Stephen Kingsley crosses for Josh Magennis, whose header into the ground bounces over.

It wouldn't have counted as the Northern Ireland striker was offside.

    Hull 0-0 Brentford

The atmosphere is a tad subdued, and you can perhaps understand why.

George Honeyman brings the ball forward as Hull attempt to counter, but Keane Lewis-Potter's ball into the box is weak, and cleared.

  17. KICK-OFFpublished at 1 min

    Hull 0-0 Brentford

We're off and running at the KCOM Stadium.

It's a big afternoon for Hull's teenage striker Keane Lewis-Potter, who makes his full league debut, while Brentford need to bounce back quickly if they are to retain hopes of automatic promotion.

The players emerge from the narrow tunnel on a bright, but windy Saturday lunchtime on Humberside.

Brentford sporting a rather fetching purple strip, commemorating their final season at their Griffin Park home (even though this game is being played 215 miles away).

Hull fans will have been braced for their departures, but the sale of star forwards Jarrod Bowen and Kamil Grosicki - to West Ham and West Brom respectively - has instantly seen them lose the scorers of 22 of their 41 Championship goals this season.

Grant McCann was allowed to reinvest a bit of the £20m+, signing mercurial Peterborough playmaker Marcus Maddison on loan and paying £1.5m for teenage Motherwell forward James Scott.

But are the 14th-placed Tigers now looking down the table, rather than up?
