I have arrived at a sun-bathed Liberty Stadium, where we could witness history today. Wayne Rooney has never scored on this ground.

Bearing in mind he’s scored in his last three Derby County games, will he break his duck here?

I'm on BBC Final Score duty at Swansea against Derby, on air and online from 15:00 GMT. With only two Premier League games on this afternoon, the English Football League will very much be our focus.

  2. Game on at Prenton Parkpublished at 13:25 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2020

    Tranmere v Portsmouth (15:00 GMT)

While we pause for breath at DW Stadium, it's worth reminding you that this is just the first of 32 English Football League games taking place throughout the afternoon.

There may have been one or two concerns about whether Tranmere Rovers' League One fixture with Portsmouth would be going ahead, mind you, because of the ominous state of the Prenton Park pitch.

It was announced on Friday that the Women's Super League match between Liverpool and Chelsea next weekend had been moved to Chester following a string of postponements in Birkenhead - but it's all systems go for the visit of Pompey today.

  3. Blues victory ends Robins' winning runpublished at 13:22 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2020

    FT: Bristol City 1-3 Birmingham

In Friday night's Championship game, Birmingham City recovered from conceding after 40 seconds to win at Ashton Gate and end Bristol City's four-game winning run.

Scott Hogan made it two goals in two for Blues, with former Aston Villa forward Andreas Weimann putting through his own net for the Robins before a late Lukas Jutkiewicz goal sealed the points.

Blues are now eight games unbeaten in all competitions and registered successive league wins for the first time since October, while Lee Johnson's side missed the chance to go third in the table.

Bristol City miss the chance to go third in the Championship, despite scoring a first-minute opener against Birmingham.

  4. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:19 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2020

    Wigan 0-1 Preston

Tom Barkhuizen's seventh-minute tap-in sees Preston deservedly ahead at the break.

Visiting captain Alan Browne has stayed down after the half-time whistle with a head injury, which we hope doesn't force him off.

Wigan are in the game but are lacking a cutting edge.

  5. INJURY TIMEpublished at 45+1 mins

    Wigan 0-1 Preston

One minute added at the end of the first half.

Preston doing what's expected of them at the DW Stadium so far.

  6. Postpublished at 44 mins

    Wigan 0-1 Preston

Lee Evans makes a great overlap option for Wigan but Nathan Byrne overhits the pass and it drifts out for a goal kick.

Wigan are getting into the final third but not showing the composure when it matters.

  7. Postpublished at 43 mins

    Wigan 0-1 Preston

A Joe Williams pea-roller is on target but Preston keeper Declan Rudd collects the ball with ease.

Wigan are scrapping and harrying for everything but there hasn't been much quality from them.

  8. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 40 mins

    Wigan 0-1 Preston

Wigan appeal for handball against Preston's Andrew Hughes in the box, but his arm is in a fairly natural position and protests are waved away.

The hosts do win a corner though and once again manage to pen in the visitors without really being able to penetrate.

  9. Postpublished at 38 mins

    Wigan 0-1 Preston

For my money Preston's Daniel Johnson has been the best player on the pitch so far.

The Jamaican's corners haven't always been spot on but the attacking midfielder has been energetic and brought the visitors up the pitch.

Wigan are yet to get to grips with him.

  10. Postpublished at 36 mins

    Wigan 0-1 Preston

The game's turned a bit scrappy, with neither side really able to get hold of the ball.

There have been a couple small signs of the home crowd getting restless, and the referee adds to that by penalising Jamal Lowe for handball as Wigan try to create something.

  11. Postpublished at 32 mins

    Wigan 0-1 Preston

There's no doubt Preston deserve to be ahead here, they look slick going forward and are creating chances regularly.

But Wigan are making enough from set-pieces to suggest they could nick one, so Alex Neil will want the buffer of a second goal for sure.

  12. Postpublished at 28 mins

    Wigan 0-1 Preston

It's the visitors' turn to build some pressure.

Daniel Johnson is floating in some nice corners and is about to take his third in succession, with Wigan so far sticking to their defensive task.

  13. Postpublished at 25 mins

    Wigan 0-1 Preston

Preston forward Scott Sinclair is looking to score in consecutive league games in England for the first time since February 2011, for Swansea, but his free-kick goes into the wall.

    I'm enjoying this.

  14. Postpublished at 23 mins

    Wigan 0-1 Preston

Now Preston counter... Daniel Johnson is a great dribbler of the ball and draws the foul from Cedric Kipre almost 25 yards out.

This is a good position for the visitors.

  15. CLOSE!published at 21 mins

    Wigan 0-1 Preston

That's why Chey Dunkley is such a threat in the air!

Wigan continue to put balls into the box and the centre-back leaps like a salmon, getting a great contact as the ball powers just over.

I don't think Declan Rudd was saving that if it was on target - but, alas, it wasn't and still Paul Cook's side trail.

    Wigan 0-1 Preston

Not like that, though (commentator's curse).

Joe Williams gets the corner all wrong, whacking the ball over all the players in the box and letting Preston off the hook.

  17. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Wigan 0-1 Preston

Another corner for Wigan - set-pieces look their best bet at the moment...

  18. Postpublished at 18 mins

    Wigan 0-1 Preston

The hosts have been silenced since going behind but they have a corner - and up comes centre-back and top scorer Chey Dunkley.

There's a bit of a scrap in the box as Preston can't clear, with Kieffer Moore eventually seeing a shot blocked.

    That was messy!

  19. GREAT SAVE!published at 15 mins

    Wigan 0-1 Preston

Wigan are half asleep but thankfully for them keeper David Marshall is wide awake.

Preston just keep the ball in on the far side and Sean Maguire gets a head to Darnell Fisher's fine cross, with Marshall pushing the ball wide.

Scott Sinclair then drags a great chance wide for the visitors, who look very dangerous.

  20. Postpublished at 12 mins

    Wigan 0-1 Preston

That goal has Preston in the final play-off place as things stand - but obviously there's a long way to go.

Wigan launch an attack of their own and Ben Pearson isn't happy as referee Darren England blocks him from running back to defend.

Fortunately for the ref the Latics move comes to nothing.
