Pick of the bunch are probably the evening ties, with Partick Thistle hosting holders Celtic in a Glasgow derby followed by Dundee at home to Motherwell.

Will there be any cup shocks?

    FT: Rangers 2-0 Stranraer

Former Rangers youth goalkeeper Max Currie tops the charts and is your choice of man of the match in our player rater.

The top eight scores are Stranraer players, with the best-scoring Rangers man being debutant Nathan Patterson.

Currie had a series of saves to keep the score down, while 18-year-old Patterson impressed in place of injured captain James Tavernier at right-back.

  7. 'It was a penalty but not a corner'published at 22:03 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2020

    FT: Rangers 2-0 Stranraer

Stranraer manager Stevie Farrell admits that his side did give away a legitimate penalty but contests whether the corner leading to Rangers' first goal was fair.

"I've no complaints about the penalty," he tells Premier Sports. "I'm not sure it's a corner kick. The boys were adamant that it wasn't a corner kick in the first half and that's a crucial time. I think it was 44 and a half minutes on the clock.

"I'm a wee bit disappointed because, if it's not a corner then fine, but we've got to defend it. Particularly in the second phase. And, if you go in at nothing each, you never know. But I think it probably was a penalty, according to the lads in the second half."

  8. Farrell delighted with defendingpublished at 22:02 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2020

    FT: Rangers 2-0 Stranraer

Stranraer manager Stevie Farrell believes his side worked tremendously hard to play to their tactics and was proud of his team's performance.

"I thought we restricted Rangers," he tells Premier Sports. "We worked all week on trying to get them to play in the wider areas and force them to cross from the wider areas and then just try and smother that central area where they're good at making those five-yard runs and runs down the side of central defenders.

"When you consider how we've lost the goals - from a second phase from a corner kick just a minute before half-time and a penalty - I've got to be delighted in terms of how we defended without the ball. We maybe didn't get on the ball as much as could have, but in the reality in terms of coming to Rangers is that there are better teams than us that have come here and suffered heavier defeats than 2-0."

It is hard to judge fringe players in games like this, but I think he would have expected Jordan Jones to be at Stranraer in this game, but he was disappointing

  11. 'Rangers have a healthy squad' - Davispublished at 21:54 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2020

    FT: Rangers 2-0 Stranraer

Rangers midfielder Steven Davis believes tonight's inclusion of a number of back-up and youth players is proof of how strong the Ibrox side are this season.

"I think we are in a good place," he tells Premier Sports. "We have a healthy squad and good competition for places.

"There are people that will be wanting that shirt, so that's the kind of healthy competition we're looking forward to having in the second half of the season. Hopefully we'll have a lot to play for."

  12. Does Gerrard need another striker?published at 21:52 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2020

Could it be a Shankland, who is banging them in for Dundee United, or a Nisbet, who is doing so well for Dunfermline? Or maybe someone looking for game time from England? Gerrard has plenty of wingers, plenty of midfielders, plenty of defenders, a good back-up goalkeeper, but I just think a striker is the one position he might squeeze the board on

  13. 'We were lacklustre in the final third' - Arfieldpublished at 21:49 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2020

    FT: Rangers 2-0 Stranraer

Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield admits his side were a little too blunt in attack tonight but believes that may be down to their opponents defending well.

Speaking to Premier Sports, he says: "Overall, I thought we were a bit lacklustre in the final third and we need to pay Stranraer an enormous mount of credit.

"They've come to Ibrox and played a good game. They stuck to it, they put the bodies on the line and thankfully we managed to break them down twice. When we reflect on that, it could have been a whole lot more."

    FT: Rangers 2-0 Stranraer

    Quote Message

It was never going to be an upset, with respect to Stranraer. It was just about how many would Rangers score and that's the way it was. But, again, they probably could have injected some tempo into their game. Maybe a little bit cleaner with some of their play around the penalty area. It was a difficult game because of all the Stranraer players behind the ball. Rangers were professional and Stranraer came with a game plan to execute and they worked tirelessly all night

  16. FULL-TIME Rangers 2-0 Stranraerpublished at 21:37 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2020

Rangers are the first side through to the fifth round of the Scottish Cup and it was all pretty routine in the end with no hint of a shock win from their part-time visitors.

But home manager Steven Gerrard will likely have expected his side to have recorded a more convincing win over a side sitting bottom of Scotland's third tier.

Rangers were probably fortunate to take the lead just before the break, when Scott Arfield prodded home following a disputed corner.

They needed a penalty to end Stranraer's hopes when Jermain Defoe was tripped then scored it himself.

The visitors will take confidence from their stuffy performance, while Rangers will just be happy to progress.
