  1. 'Rangers are benchmark' - Farrellpublished at 19:09 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2020

    Rangers v Stranraer (19:45)

Stranraer manager Steven Farrell tells BBC Scotland: "Rangers and Celtic are the benchmark just now and probably Rangers are as good a side as there’s been in many a year, so it’s going to be a difficult challenge for us.

"We know Steven [Gerrard] has them playing really well, particularly offensively and particularly at Ibox, so we know it’s going to be a difficult challenge, but we’ve got to go and be there, we’ve got to go and try and be as organised as we possibly can and frustrate them as much as we can.

"That’s what I’m looking forward to can I go and test myself in relation to taking a team like Rangers on and setting a team up that’s going to frustrate them and be as difficult and competitive as they possibly can be."

I can't see an upset tonight. I know they went to Ibrox in 2014 and they got a draw, but this is a totally different animal they are facing because it is huge for Rangers to come back in the right frame of mind after that great result at Celtic Park

  3. Patterson debut for much-changed hostspublished at 19:03 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2020

    Rangers v Stranraer (19:45)

Steven Gerrard hands a debut to Nathan Patterson despite the manager being quoted as saying he is not quite ready for the first team even though the 18-year-old right-back impressed in Rangers' 6-1 friendly win over Lokomotiv Tashkent in Dubai.

He takes the place of injured captain James Tavernier as only four players retain their places from the team that narrowed the gap at the top of the Premiership with a 2-1 win over leaders Celtic last month.

Nikila Katic remains in central defence, Ryan Jack, Steven Davis and Joe Aribo maintain their impressive partnership in midfield, while Jermain Defoe replaces the suspended Alfredo Morelos up front.

  5. Hamill looks to fell giantspublished at 18:58 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2020

    Rangers v Stranraer (19:45)

Jamie Hamill knows all about scoring against Rangers at Ibrox. He did it in a 2-1 Premiership win there in 2012.

Now the 33-year-old right-back come midfielder, plying his trades as a part-time footballer with Stranraer and a joiner in his day-times, has the belief that he can fix it for his shade of Blues to cut tonight's hosts down to size.

  6. More for Morelospublished at 18:55 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2020

    Rangers v Stranraer (19:45)

Rangers' on-field behaviour also denies them the services tonight of top scorer Alfredo Morelos as a result of two bookings in last season's Scottish Cup.

The Scottish FA today confirmed that the Colombian was booked for his gesture to rival fans after being sent off in their league victory at Celtic Park last month.

It means he was yellow carded three times during the game, but the act of drawing his hand across his throat as he walked off the pitch does not add to his two-match Premiership suspension.

    Rangers v Stranraer (19:45)

Rangers' discipline has come under the spotlight in the hours leading up to tonight's kick-off, with coaches Thomas Culshaw and Michael Beale having been charged with misconduct and the club being accused of not acting in an "orderly fashion" in games against Celtic and Hibernian last month.

Rangers say they are "astounded" by Scottish FA charges of not acting in an "orderly fashion" and intend to contest them "in the most robust manner possible".

  9. Can Stranraer catch Rangers cold?published at 18:45

    Rangers v Stranraer (19:45)

Storm Brendan has passed and Rangers tonight take another step on their quest to stop the tide of trophies that continue to be gathered by city rivals Celtic after a certain Mr Rodgers passed the reins of power to Neil Lennon.

Steven Gerrard's Ibrox side kick-off a weekend of 16 Scottish Cup fourth-round ties that officially ends the winter break enjoyed by the 12 Premiership clubs.

Tonight's visitors Stranraer have had no such luxury while back in Scotland braving the January winds and rain - as well as the threat of relegation. But can the League One part-timers catch the Glasgow side cold on their return from the heat of their Dubai training camp?

Stay with us for the pre-match build-up, live commentary and post-match reaction.
