All things considered, that wasn't a bad half for England. It's probably been their best performance - so far - since the World Cup.

England's back four, which includes a makeshift right-back in Leah Williamson (naturally a central defender/midfielder), have struggled to deal with those runs from Tobin Heath and Carli Lloyd. There's been plenty of sloppy passes too but England have good options on the bench in Bethany England, Chloe Kelly and Jordan Nobbs.

Former England defender Laura Bassett: "To go in at half-time with a clean sheet is a massive boost. You always know when you play against America there are going to be waves and waves of attacks. There are some positives, they can go in at half-time and sort things out. And it's cooled down a bit now, which will help.

"England have been solid at the back and when we do link up going forward we look good on the counter-attack."

In midfield I think we need Jordan Nobbs, someone who will breathe when on the ball. Otherwise we'll get punished in this second half.

I don't think we've actually put a string of passes together yet. You have to learn lessons and I'm seeing us doing the same things we did in the World Cup. We are being sloppy, giving them time and space and making mistakes. You can't do that against a team like the United States.

I've been impressed with how England have defended set-pieces. It's something we've said in the past that they need to do better and they have been so far.

Tobin Heath comes in from the right before rattling a shot off that is heading into the sidenetting but Carly Telford decides to make sure anyway with an acrobatic save. The corner then comes to nothing.

Strong rendition of the Iceland clap around the Exploria Stadium as half time approaches. England will certainly be the happier of the two teams having managed to frustrate the world champions.

Some very risky passing around the back by England but they get away with it and are able to work the ball up the pitch. The attack comes to an end though as Lauren Hemp is penalised for a foul.

That's never a penalty. Tobin Heath was looking for that and I actually thought it was good defending by England.

Tobin Heath goes down inside the box under pressure from Alex Greenwood and the home fans want a penalty. Nothing given, Heath was looking for it to be fair.

England then go down the other end as Jill Scott fires a well-struck effort straight at Alyssa Naeher.

Keira Walsh plays the ball through the middle looking for the run of Georgia Stanway but Stanway isn't able to get to the ball first.
