England pass the ball from right to left on halfway as they build patiently, not taking any risks and avoiding any mistakes that can allow the USA to break quickly.

Carly Telford is having a great half so far as she produces another good save, this time to deny Carli Lloyd's low first-time strike from Tobin Heath's ball across the box.

Phil Neville just flapped his arms in the air in frustration when Steph Houghton played that ball over the top. He's just told Carly Telford to keep the ball on the ground and Houghton is now relaying the message to her teammates. England need to have a spell of possession.

That was a good chance for Nikita Parris earlier on. USA almost punished England at the other end with a quick break through Tobin Heath. Carly Telford was sharp to snuff out that chance for Lindsay Horan too.

Oh what a chance!

Lauren Hemp flicks the ball and Jill Scott is there, three yards out from goal but touches the ball onto the roof the net. It came at her quickly but any other sort of touch and that would have gone in.

Still, England are looking a threat from set pieces.

Nikita Parris is fouled as she gets in-between two USA players and England have a free kick midway inside the USA half. Phil Neville waves his hands around energetically, perhaps indicating what should be done with the free kick, Alex Greenwood swings the ball in and behind the defence but Millie Bright can't get to it. Corner, though.

BIG chance! Steph Houghton fluffs her attempt to clear a ball into the box and Lindsey Horan is in but Carly Telford is once again alert to the danger and blocks the shot before smothering the loose ball.

In the World Cup the USA had huge strength in depth and an ability to rotate. But I think the difference was their physicality. Lots of England's players are up there with them on that front but it's about getting all of them to that level.

Lovely ball by Keira Walsh finds Nikita Parris sneaking around the back. Parris does well to control the ball but then heads straight at the goalkeeper. Wouldn't have counted anyway because the flag was up for offside but a nice move nonetheless by England.

I applaud England's bravery for trying to play out from the back but it feels like an accident waiting to happen against the USA's high press.

Indeed, Alex Greenwood loses the ball midway inside the England half and Tobin Heath breaks towards the box but the visitors manage to halt her run before she can cause danger.
