    USA v England (00:08 GMT)

Although I've been saying kick off is at midnight that's not strictly true with the game actually kicking off at the slightly bizarre time of 00:08 GMT.

The players are on their way out onto the pitch now, though.

  3. 'Disappointed England on the bench'published at 23:57 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2020

    Ex-England international on BBC Two

I am disappointed that Beth England is not playing. I think the form she has shown in the WSL has been exceptional and she deserved to start today.

Yes Ellen White has done it for England but in terms of form Beth England is hands down in form and yes I am disappointed but hopefully she can come on and show what she can do.

I think we all know the answer to this one. Go put the kettle on...

  5. 'We want to win the trophy again'published at 23:52 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2020

    USA v England (00:00 GMT)

England boss Phil Neville, speaking to BBC Sport: "It is a tournament we came to last year and we went home with the trophy and we took great confidence from that into a major tournament and we want to do that again. We want to compete, play well and ultimately take home the trophy.

"Beth England will get opportunities in this tournament but ultimately the bar has been set really high by Ellen White over the last 12 months.

"There is a good blend of youth and experience in that team which will hopefully give us the best chance of winning."

USA midfielder Julie Ertz was instrumental during their victory over England at the World Cup.

We asked Phil Neville about her influence on that game in yesterday's press conference and he admitted she was 'probably the one player he would take out of that team.'

"She is phenomenal for them," he added.

Ertz herself said she always "enjoys" playing against England and follows the men's and women's teams in the country.

"I think it’s incredible how soccer – or football to you – is such a huge sport there," she told us.

"We are trying to get it to be a well-known sport here and respected at all levels."

  7. 'England needs winning mentality'published at 23:48 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2020

    USA v England (00:00 GMT)

    Alex Scott
    Ex-England international on BBC Two

The end of last year, England's form - yes we were talking about a hangover from the World Cup but now there are no excuses. We're building towards the European Championships.

Failure is not an option for the USA and that is a mentality we want in this England team.

DavesTwin7: Moved to America at the age of 23. Got American Citizenship 18 months ago at the age of 43. Conflicted about who to support for tonight's game? Not a chance. Lionesses all the way. Come on England.

Sebastien Wright: It seems Spain are realising the potential they showed at last year's World Cup. Lucía García who was enthusiastic and raw last year looked absolute class tonight!

This is the first of three England games over the next week with only this kicking off at a not-every-work-friendly time.

  11. 'Huge rivalry'published at 23:36 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2020

    USA v England (00:00 GMT)

Ballon d'Or winner Megan Rapinoe says the rivalry between the USA and England is "huge".

The world champions beat England 2-1 in July after Ellen White had a goal disallowed for offside by VAR and Steph Houghton's penalty was saved.

"We're the ones that have the number one on our backs and the big target but we understand that every team is gunning for us. It's one of their biggest games of the year," said 34-year-old Rapinoe who has scored 51 goals for the US and won two World Cup titles.

"We know who our toughest rivals are. The World Cup semi-final was a close game. I think it was decided by a long toe nail."

  12. Team news - Rapinoe and England on benchpublished at 23:34 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2020

    USA v England (00:00 GMT)

Phil Neville makes five changes to the England team that lined up in the 3-2 victory over the Czech Republic in November.

Chelsea striker Bethany England, joint-top scorer in the WSL, misses out as Ellen White gets the nod up front.

Lauren Hemp, 19, makes her first start for the national team as she replaces the injured Beth Mead, while Alex Greenwood is in for Demi Stokes at full-back.

Manchester City keeper Ellie Roebuck, who was racing to be fully fit after picking up an injury 11 days ago, has to settle for a place on the bench as Carly Telford starts.

England XI: Telford, Greenwood, Walsh, Houghton, Bright, Parris, Scott, Williamson, Stanway, White, Hemp

There is just one change to the USA team who faced England in the World Cup semi-final.

Former Manchester City striker Carli Lloyd replaces Alex Morgan and Ballon d'Or winner Megan Rapinoe is only on the bench.

USA XI: Naeher, O'hara, Dahlkemper, Sauerbrunn, Dunn, Lavelle, Ertz, Horan, Heath, Lloyd, Press

Spain have just beaten Japan 3-1 in the opening match of the tournament in baking conditions here at the Exploria Stadium.

Even when we arrived several hours ago there were loads of USA fans outside enjoying the pre-match entertainment.

Everything from face-painting, banner-making, penalty shootouts and freebies were on offer.

And there were queues to get inside to watch the early game, though it's bound to fill up later for the big match.

The stadium is home to Orlando Pride in the NWSL, so there were quite a few shirts donning the names of Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger who are in the USA squad.

Local hero Alex Morgan was the most popular name but she's absent as she's due to give birth in April.

It was, of course, a heartbreaking moment for England.

The hopes and dreams of a World Cup win were snatched away by the USA last July, when the Lionesses went down 2-1 in the semi-finals.

Now the two sides meet for the first time since that day in the SheBelieves Cup.

Will Phil Neville's side banish those bad memories from last year as they look to build towards a renewed bid for glory at next year's European Championship?
