How heartbroken would you be if your dream move to Barcelona fell through? I would guess, a lot.

Well, Cedric Bakambu looks to have put a brave face on it, after his reported move to the Spanish giants failed to materialise.

    He tweeted this yesterday...

OK that's all from me. My colleague Phil Dawkes is in the building now to guide you through the afternoon deals.

Which might be a tough gig seeing as though pretty much every Premier League manager has said not to expect much business for the rest of the day.

    Good luck, Dawkesy!

  10. 'Vestergaard top of the wish list'published at 14:53 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Leicester City

    Chris Forryan - Leicestertillidie.com

Had Jamie Vardy's injury happened at the start of the season, I would have said we needed to strengthen up front. That's not such an urgent issue now, though, with Kelechi Iheanacho showing improved form and Ayoze Perez potentially someone we could utilise in the lone forward role.

Our main area of concern is the lack of cover in central defence with Wes Morgan only just returning from injury and, at 36, his age counting against him. Manager Brendan Rodgers also feels that Filip Benkovic is not yet ready for the step up and it appears that Southampton's Jannik Vestergaard is now top of the manager's wish list.

Luke Shaw, a peripheral player at Manchester United, has been linked with us. He could give us the cover we will need next season, with Christian Fuchs set to leave and a possible Ben Chilwell departure too.

Benkovic looks as if he might be leaving on loan once another defender is secured. And that would be a good move for the future, with Jonny Evans also the wrong side of 30. We still have a few of Claudio Ranieri's signings that could leave and Islam Slimani could do with being moved out permanently, not just on loan, as he has no future at the club.

  11. 'Origi or Batshuayi would be fantastic'published at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Newcastle United

Norman Riley - Deputy Editor of True Faith fanzine

We desperately need a centre-forward. We lost Ayoze Perez and Salomon Rondon at the end of last season and simply haven't replaced them properly. Joelinton was brought in to be the number nine when he clearly isn't a centre-forward. It speaks volumes that Andrew Carroll, Dwight Gayle and Joelinton have a total of one league goal between them.

The two loan signings have potential and obvious ability but it would be great (possibly beyond the realms of fantasy at Mike Ashley's Newcastle) to see the permanent signing of a centre-forward who knows the division and could fit straight in. Both Divock Origi and Michy Batshuayi are underused and either would be fantastic for us.

Getting players that aren't used shipped out to free spaces up would be good but there's no guarantee they would be replaced. I'm referring to players who don't seem to have a future at the club, such as Yoshinori Muto, Ki Sung-yueng, Jack Colback, Henri Saivet and Achraf Lazaar.

  12. 'No official offer for Richarlison' - Ancelottipublished at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

Watford v Everton (Sat, 17:30 GMT)

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport

Carlo Ancelotti raised that well-known eyebrow when I asked if he could clarify the situation on Richarlison, who was reportedly the subject of an £85m bid from Barcelona on Wednesay.

The Everton boss joked that he was "surprised" to see the Brazilian at training following the news, adding there had been no “official offer” for the forward.

“There was a rumour but we didn't receive an official offer," he said. "The player is happy here, he signed a new contract just one month ago. He is a really important part of our squad.”

  14. We will consider offers for Niasse and Martina - Ancelottipublished at 14:43 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti said he would consider offers for striker Oumar Niasse and defender Cuco Martina if they arrive. There will be no incomings.

“We are not anxious to find a new player, we have a big squad," he said.

"If there was an opportunity, we would consider it, but I think the market did not show us a good opportunity."

  15. 'To say Bowen deal is done would be jumping the gun'published at 14:39 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes has been talking about the prospect of signing Jarrod Bowen from Hull...

"We are always interested in players who can score goals and make a difference so yes we are interested. I can’t confirm it’s done at this moment in time but we’re hoping to get it concluded, to say it's done would be jumping the gun.

"I’ve taken the likes of Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka and Tim Cahill from the Championship over the years. They don't all do it immediately.

"But when you score goals in the number he does in the Championship it gives him a chance, but we all know it’s a step up."

  17. 'Norwich focused on bigger picture'published at 14:31 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Norwich City

    Gary Gowers - Norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com

In true Norwich City tradition, the club are playing this one low-key. Six points adrift at the bottom of the table would be for most to 'splash the cash' but Daniel Farke and sporting director Stuart Webber remain focused on the bigger picture.

Partly because that's the plan and partly because we have no money.

Our 'here and now' business was done signing Ondrej Duda on loan from Hertha Berlin and Lukas Rupp from Hoffenheim. Both are midfielders and both have settled in well. But we're realistic - these moves in January are unlikely to be enough for Premier League football next season.

In terms of outgoings, there are whispers that both Moritz Leitner and Ibrahim Amadou may be departing at the eleventh hour on loan, but Teemu Pukki will NOT be going to Manchester United.

  18. 'Calm down and go somewhere it is more exciting'published at 14:26 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

Liverpool v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has ruled out the prospect of any late transfer business.

The Premier League leaders are 19 points clear at the top of the standings and do not have any injury issues which need addressing, so Klopp says he is more than happy with the squad he has.

"Incoming: nothing. Outgoing: nothing," he said.

"You can leave Melwood after the press conference, calm down and go to another place where it is more exciting."

  19. 'I'm pretty convinced we're done'published at 14:24 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta talking to Sky Sports: "I'm very pleased with Cedric Soares. He's a player we've been following, he's a player who fits our structure. He knows the league, He doesn't really need to adapt so I'm very pleased.

"We were short at right-back, we've had some big issues in that position before. We only have two players there and Maitland-Niles isn't really a right back and Hector [Bellerin] has had injuries so to bring in a player of that quality wasn't easy."

On Pablo Mari: "It's part of the squad balance. You can't have six right-footed centre backs, it gives you options and helps with the way we'll play."

On more transfers today: "Never say never but I'm pretty convinced that's us."

On his time at Arsenal so far: "There's been a lot of challenges, with injuries and suspensions, but I'm pleased the direction we're taking and very pleased the way the players have accepted the ideas and the way the fans have reacted."

On the break: "We'll use it to do two things. Firstly we'll give the players a few days off so they can rest, because they haven't had that since November. Then we'll spend some time training so we can get our ideas across more."
