Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed Leroy Sane has returned to training after recovering from knee surgery.

"It is good news, he moved really well and it is nice to see him back," he said.

Sane has been missing since damaging his cruciate ligaments in August.

His contract is due to expire in the summer but Guardiola says there is 'no news' on that after the Germany wide-man rejected City's offer of an extension.

If it's true Everton turned down an £85m bid from Barcelona for Richarlison that has to be bigger for us than any transfer. Not just that we keep him but also that we can actually now afford to turn it down and that we have a manager that would make a player want to stay over going to Barcelona. Surely our luck on the field will turn at some point.

  4. 'Gomes is like a new signing'published at 14:08 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

Watford v Everton (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Everton

If you're an Everton fan you'll probably have slightly mixed views on this entry - good news that Andre Gomes is targeting a return to action against Arsenal on 23 February 23 but equally a touch of frustration when it comes to transfers...

Manager Carlo Ancelotti has been talking about his "amazing recovery" before going on to say: "This is really good news, maybe we can consider him [Gomes] a new player in the transfer market.

"We don't need to buy others.

"We are not anxious to find new players because we have a big squad. If there was an opportunity we could consider it but I think the market didn't show for us a really good opportunity."

  6. Could there be one last ace to play?published at 14:04 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Wolves

    David Evans - Wolves Fancast

Wolves are in need of another striker. Will they get one before the end of today?

Reports suggest there are no incoming today. But with Nuno Espirito Santo now saying today "we are working hard" and Luke Matheson about to join from Rochdale, you get the feeling that there could be one last ace up the sleeve.

Benik Afobe joined Wolves at the eleventh hour in this window two years ago. Perhaps there could be another such last minute transfer on the cards?

There was talk of Portuguese forward Nelson Oliveira from AEK Athens, but that seems to have cooled. Would someone want to come and to play second fiddle to Raul Jimenez? That's the problem Wolves are looking to solve.

  7. 'We want to do things for the future'published at 14:04 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

Tottenham v Man City (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

With Harry Kane injured you'd have thought Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho would be chomping at the bit to get a centre forward in.

But apparently not, Mourinho, who asked himself the first three questions at his news conference today, seems very chilled about it all.

"Yes, we would need a striker to have a better squad to face the great challenges in front of us in three different competitions," he said.

"But we want to do things not to resolve the problems of today but things that are also good for the future."

    • Olivier Giroud not leaving Chelsea, says Frank Lampard.

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho says he does not expect any more signings before the transfer deadline at 23:00 GMT.

Spurs signed Netherlands forward Steven Bergwijn for £27m from PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday and have also made Giovani Lo Celso's loan move from Real Betis permanent during the January window.

"I am not expecting, the market is open so anything can happen but I am not expecting anything to happen. I am happy."

  10. Good news on Laportepublished at 13:53 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

Tottenham v Man City (Sun 16:30 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has provided us with an update on the fitness of Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sane:

"Aymeric is ok. He had a bit of fatigue, he is not injured. We didn't want to take a risk. Maybe he can play against Spurs but hopefully against West Ham.

"Leroy has started to train with us. He moves surprisingly well. It's nice to have him back."

On never doing business on Deadline Day: "Normally I start the season with players I trust, so I prefer to finish the season with the same players."

  11. 'Chelsea light in attack'published at 13:52 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Chelsea

    Ross Mooring - Chelsea Fancast

Chelsea's transfer window looks to be closing without any major movement in or out, in spite of the squad struggling in a number of areas, not least up front with Tammy Abraham currently carrying an injury.

A proposed move for Napoli's veteran striker Dries Mertens appears to have stalled and the club may not let Olivier Giroud leave with only Michy Batshuayi left up front.

Meanwhile, Ruben Loftus-Cheek is getting closer to a return after eight months out with injury, however promising youth right-back Tariq Lamptey who only recently made his first team debut is departing for Brighton today before his contract expires in the summer.

  19. Gomes could be back next month - Ancelottipublished at 13:36 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

Watford v Everton (Sat, 17:30 GMT)

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti says there was no "official offer" for Richarlison, despite reports of the Toffees rejecting an £85m bid from Barcelona. He's going nowhere.

And great news for Andre Gomes, who Ancelotti says could be in contention for the trip to Arsenal on 23 February, which would be an amazing recovery following his shocking injury in November.

Bad news for midfielder Jean Philippe Gbamin, though, who is set to have further surgery on a thigh injury, which has hampered him for most of the season.

Ancelotti hopes to have the Ivorian back by the end of the campaign.
