  4. Harry Redknapp Q&Apublished at 11:38 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Harry Redknapp
    Former manager at various clubs

Derek: Do the players or captain ever have any input into the type of players or actual players a club may sign?

No not really. As a manager you used to have a relationship with your captain, who you could talk to about things, but it’s not like that anymore. An awful lot of footballers know how to play but they are not students of the game.

  10. John set to join Sunderland from Swanseapublished at 11:33 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Gareth Vincent
    BBC Sport Wales

Swansea City’s Wales international defender Declan John is set to join Sunderland on loan for the rest of the season.

John, 24, has made five appearances – only one of which was in the league – for the Championship club in 2019-20.

The former Cardiff left-back agreed a three-year deal when he signed for Swansea from Rangers in 2018.

He will join a Sunderland side who are currently fifth in League One having made a total of 15 Swans appearances to date.

Another guess the deadline-day signing teaser for you to ponder.

Any idea who this player - who was signed to fill a Dimitar Berbatov-shaped hole - is?

  12. 'I'm counting on Bale' - Zidanepublished at 11:27 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

Gareth Bale & Zinedine ZidaneImage source, Getty Images

Now then a bit more on Gareth Bale's future, which follows on from what our own Simon Stone was saying earlier.

Speaking at his pre-match news conference, Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane, said: "Gareth is with us at the moment and I’m still using him. I don’t contemplate any changes. I'm counting on him."

Real play city rivals Atletico on Saturday.

  13. Foxes close in on Bennettpublished at 11:25 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Wolves defender Ryan Bennett is set to join Leicester on loan for the rest of the season.

The 29-year-old has struggled for game time at Molineux this season but has been offered the chance to join Brendan Rodgers' squad for the remainder of the campaign.

Leicester have been looking for central defensive back-up to Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu.

It is understood the deal contains an option to buy, or an obligation should Bennett make a certain number of appearances for the Foxes.

The deal will allow Filip Benkovic to take up a loan move, possibly to Bristol City.

  16. Harry Redknapp Q&Apublished at 11:17 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Harry Redknapp
    Former manager at various clubs

Nick J: Do clubs deliberately wait until deadline day to try to get a better deal for a player?

No. The player holds all the aces. No one can make him move. No one can make him sign a contract. Even if a club turns around and says we’ve got an offer here for £16m, he can still say, “I’m not going to move” and let his contract run down.

  17. Cardiff could move for Adomahpublished at 11:14 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Philip Marsh
    BBC Sport Wales

Cardiff City are weighing up a move for Nottingham Forest winger Albert Adomah.

The 32-year-old Ghana international joined Forest from Aston Villa on a free transfer last summer.

But he has made only five starts for the Championship club this season, featuring mostly as a substitute.

Cardiff are keen to add to their options out wide, with winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing ruled out for the season with a knee injury.

  20. Outgoings more likely at Evertonpublished at 11:06 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport

Looks like it might be a quiet one for Everton as regards to incomings. We will hear from manager Carlo Ancelotti at 13:00 GMT this afternoon, and he may have a view on that reported £85m Barcelona bid for Richarlison, which was quickly dismissed.

But there may be outgoings. There has been interest in striker Oumar Niasse and defender Cuco Martina as the Toffees look to trim their squad.

Youngsters Lewis Gibson and Morgan Feeney have already moved out on loan.
