  1. Moves falling through for Palace?published at 12:39 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Crystal Palace

Terence Ford - Back of the Nest Podcast

On Thursday I was beaming at the prospect of signing two exciting youngsters from the Championship, and the potential of adding a Champions League final goalscorer to the ranks.

Now I am sat here typing on a laptop that I want to throw out the window as Yannick Carrasco opts for Madrid over South London, Nathan Ferguson has failed his medical, and Jarrod Bowen appears to have decided to "run out here with all the bubbles" at the London Stadium instead of Kayla the Eagle at Selhurst Park.

At least four players have returned from injury/suspension. They will be like new signings.

First he scores at Old Trafford now Rochdale's teenage defender Luke Matheson looks as though he is on his way to Wolves...

  6. Hammers still leading the race...published at 12:27 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Ian Dennis
Radio 5 live senior football reporter

West Ham still in pole position for Jarrod Bowen with “ongoing discussions” with the Hull City player.

  7. Cherries in for Bowen?published at 12:27 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Bournemouth's willingness to let Josh King leave for Manchester United would appear to hinge on whether they can sign Jared Bowen from Hull.

A number of clubs, including Crystal Palace, are keen on Bowen but West Ham are hopeful of getting the deal over the line.

King worked with United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when the Norwegian was reserve team boss.

  8. 'I'd be satisfied with no business'published at 12:23 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Southampton

Ben Stanfield - Total Saints Podcast

Saints have been actively looking for defensive reinforcements this January and that will remain the key focus. Ralph Hasenhuttl's squad has looked light at the back and with Premier League survival within touching distance, it seems sensible to try to bring in players to see us through until the end of this season.

Kyle Walker-Peters from Spurs has arrived after being strongly linked with us. I'm slightly concerned that, given Spurs' poor form over the past couple of months, he's still not had much game time with them, but I hope he'll be able to shine for us and I trust Ralph's judgement.

Our squad is thin, so Che Adams - who has been heavily linked with Leeds - needs to stay and keep developing his game. Jannik Vestergaard has surprisingly been linked with a move to Leicester, so it'll be interesting to see if anything happens there.

Right then, time to reveal the earlier guess the deadline-day signing teaser.

Pretty much everyone who had stab at this one got it right - Konstantinos Mitroglou is the answer. He was signed for £12m in 2014 tasked with helping Fulham beat the drop.

The Cottagers were relegated with Mitroglou making three appearances, scoring no goals...

  10. Rodriguez rumour...?published at 12:17 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Watford

    Matt Rowson B'Happy Blog

Quite what we need depends in part on the recovery of our walking wounded. We could do with a forward, but if we can rely on Danny Welbeck, this is a less acute need. A left-back may be a good idea but then Adam Masina and Kiko Femenia have both looked tremendous under the new manager.

On that note, there was a Ricardo Rodriguez rumour at the beginning of the window; that was exciting. An attacking left-back who can take a set piece, what's not to like? But in truth, our best signings have often been guys we'd never heard of. We're quite good at those.

Andre Gray has got a lot about him but his confidence looks shot and he needs a move, probably to a club who will play him as one of a pair up front. We need more cover up front, mind. Otherwise we have an army of decent kids who won't get much of a look in before May - Domingos Quina and Tom Dele-Bashiru both need games.

  11. 'I hope we sign someone I've heard of'published at 12:11 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    West Ham United

David Blackmore - Blowing Bubbles Monthly

Where don't West Ham need to strengthen? The general consensus is that the priority is to bring in a right-back, with Ryan Fredericks out injured and Pablo Zabaleta, as much as I like him, slowing.

Sebastien Haller cuts a lonely figure at times up front in a 4-5-1 formation; his performances this season have certainly divided opinion. I'd like to see another striker bought to play up alongside him. When Michail Antonio has partnered Haller in attack, we've looked more threatening. But with Antonio being injury prone, another forward would be a welcome addition. We are also in need of a box-to-box midfielder.

I just hope we sign someone I've actually heard of - not on loan - and someone who isn't Joe Allen.

I don't want to see any players leave given our injuries are mounting. A glance at our bench in recent games shows just how short of bodies we are but I was happy to see the back of goalkeeper Roberto, who was simply awful before heading to Alaves on loan.

Expect plenty of pictures of players signing contracts and holding up scarves before the January transfer window closes today.

English Football League clubs have had their fair share of deadline-day successes and failures in recent seasons.

We've looked back at some of the bigger deals that have gone through over the past five years and put together a quick quiz.

  15. 'We we wish him all the best'published at 12:03 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

Man Utd v Wolves (Sat, 17:30 GMT)

    Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Nuno Espirito Santo has just been on the box chatting away to Sky Sports.

As ever he cut a very relaxed figure while thanking Ryan Bennett for his efforts for Wolves.

"We have enough players who can play in that position appreciate and thank Ryan Bennett for what he has done. If he goes on loan it’s a situation he wants and we wish him all the best.

"We are working, it’s a tough window to work but it’s about rebalancing the squad."

On facing Manchester United and possibly Bruno Fernandes: "We play to compete. We are going to face a fantastic opponent, good club, good manager.

"He's [Fernandes] a good player, a fantastic player. We know the squad of Manchester United is fantastic, so we are expecting a tough game. We are going to have lunch and then travel to Manchester."

  16. Great move for Bennettpublished at 12:01 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Wolves

    David Evans - Wolves Fancast

It seems Ryan Bennett is on his way to Leicester.

With no incoming deals expected today, this is a surprising move for the defender. Although Bennett became a mainstay for the side under Nuno Espirito Santo, he has featured infrequently this season and seemed to become a back-up option off the bench, even behind promising youngster Max Kilman.

Swapping seventh for third and a hunt for a Champions League spot. Someone's had a good end of January.

  19. No Barca move for Bakambu?published at 11:54 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    John Bennett
    BBC World Service

One of the sagas of this January transfer window has been Barcelona’s search for a striker to replace the injured Luis Suarez. I’ve lost count of the number of number 9s they’ve been linked with, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Arsenal, Rodrigo at Valencia and the real curve ball that emerged in the last 24 hours, Beijing Guoan’s Cedric Bakambu, who even joked about coming close to making the move on his twitter page., external

Guillermo Amor, who has the snappy title of director of institutional and sporting relations for the first team has ruled out making a move for a senior player on deadline day, saying “if we can’t improve what we already have to it’s better not to (make a new signing).”

Barcelona fans may be worried that this leaves them a little light up front as they fight on three fronts for the La Liga title, the Champions League and the Copa Del Rey but Arsenal fans will be very relieved.

  20. Have Barcelona signed the new Ronaldo?published at 11:51 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

Barcelona have reached an agreement with Braga to sign a player dubbed "the new Cristiano Ronaldo".

Winger Francisco Trincao, 20, will join the Spanish giants in the summer for £26m. He has a £420m buyout clause!
