  3. Brighton set to buy their own player? (yes, you read that correctly)published at 11:03 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Brighton & Hove Albion

    Scott McCarthy - WeAreBrighton.com

How many clubs spend a week of a transfer window in a bidding war for their own player? Step forward, Brighton and Hove Albion.

Rumours from Argentina suggest that the Albion and Boca Juniors have come to an agreement over the future of Alexis Mac Allister. Mac Allister signed for Brighton for £7m last January but was unable to secure a surprise work permit until a few weeks ago. As a result, Brighton packed him off on a season-long loan to Boca for a cool £2m loan fee in the summer and seemingly didn't think to insert a clause into the deal which would allow them to recall him.

As a result, the Seagulls have been forced into the very strange situation of having to try to 'buy' their own player. The two clubs look to have settled on a fee of around £700,000 which would allow Mac Allister to join Brighton's fight against relegation. He's already a full Argentina international at just 21 and so there is obviously a great deal of excitement in Sussex over what he could bring to the party.

  7. Will Watford finally get Burnley's Gibson?published at 10:56 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Ian Dennis
Radio 5 live senior football reporter

Watford are still looking at strengthening their defence.

Burnley have so far rejected two offers to take Ben Gibson on loan with a view to a permanent move.

Domingos Quina will be allowed to go out on loan from Vicarage Road, with the Championship his likely destination. A number of clubs are interested in the 20-year-old midfielder.

  8. Harry Redknapp Q&Apublished at 10:55 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Harry Redknapp
    Former manager at various clubs

John Bailey: Do agents have more power than a manager today?

They certainly do have an awful lot of power yeah. Years ago, the player would come and see you if you left him out the team. Nowadays players go to their agents, who ring the chairman, to tell them: “The manager is an idiot, why's he not picking my player?!” They build relationships with chairmen, as they know managers are only passing through.

Ben: How much paperwork actually needs to be completed to get a deal over the line? Do clubs still use fax machines?!

I think so, I don’t know, I’m useless at that type of stuff. You’re relying on a good secretary. I mean secretaries are going off their head on deadline day. I don’t know how much paperwork is needed these days?!

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Bournemouth's willingness to let Josh King leave for Manchester United would appear to hinge on whether they can sign Jarrod Bowen from Hull.

A number of clubs, including Crystal Palace, are keen on Bowen but West Ham are hopeful of getting the deal over the line.

King, who spent four years at Old Trafford, worked with United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when the Norwegian was reserve team boss.

  13. 'We had a record bid accepted'published at 10:38 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

Newcastle United v Norwich City (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has been doing his stuff in front of the media.

As expected transfers dominated the agenda: "We had a bid accepted for a player which would have been a record transfer eight days ago. But unfortunately the player wanted to stay where he was. We were active but unfortunately it didn't happen.

On signing Danny Rose on loan:

"Delighted to get him. He is a top player the kid, arguably as a good a left-back as there is in England. The big thing about moving up north suited him which makes a rare change.

"He's a northern lad so little things like that are an advantage to him. I reminded him of the crowd against Oxford and he know he is walking into a big club with a huge fan base.

"It's a straight loan to be fair. He's here until the summer but if he does well, and we have the possibility to do it, we'll look at that further."

  15. 'Robinson deserves AC Milan move'published at 10:35 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

Wigan boss Paul Cook has been speaking about Antonee Robinson's imminent move from Wigan to AC Milan.

"As far as I am aware the clubs have agreed terms, the fee has been accepted and Antonee is travelling to Milan to do his medical and agree personal terms," he said.

"Until it goes through we won't comment a lot but we are absolutely delighted for the kid. He is an absolute diamond of a young man.

"He is one of the leaders in the dressing room, it is great to see his development in his 18 months with us and it has resulted in him being on the fringe of a move to a giant in world football.

"Hopefully it goes through because he really does deserve it."

  19. Wilder working hard on two more dealspublished at 10:25 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder admitted at his press conference on Thursday that he had been working around the clock trying to get deals done, and landed a big one yesterday after paying a club record £22m for Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge.

He said he was "confident" of signing two more players, which are believed to be Dutch striker Richairo Zivkovic, who plays in China, and Bayer Leverkusen defender Panagiotis Retsos.

As for the window itself, a slightly weary looking Wilder said: "It still amazes me that the first three weeks are a non-event and then it evens up and deals start happening."

Sheffield United fans can rest assured that Wilder will be doing his utmost to get those transfers done ahead of a trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
