  3. All quiet on the Liverpool frontpublished at 09:09 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Mandeep Sanghera
    BBC Sport

There are unlikely to be any major ins and outs at Liverpool on transfer deadline day today.

On the signings front, the Premier League leaders did their main business by bringing in winger Takumi Minamino from RB Leipzig at the start of the month.

In terms of outgoings, the Reds knocked back approaches from Roma and Sevilla to take Xherdan Shaqiri on loan earlier this month. They insist they will not consider selling the attacking midfielder until the summer as they remain on course for the top-flight title and are still in the Champions League and FA Cup.

Transfer deadline day would not be transfer deadline day without a bit of Harry Redknapp.

Earlier this week we asked BBC Sport readers to send in some questions that we could put to the former Tottenham boss and we will have his answers to those from 09:30 GMT.

  9. Hammers need playerspublished at 08:50 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Henry Winter
Chief Football Writer for the Times on BBC Radio 5 Live

West Ham need reinforcements. They need pace. They're being linked with Jarod Bowen who can come in and give them a little bit more energy.

They've got so many good players in that team that are under achieving - the two centre backs in particular. Fortunately they've got Mark Noble, who's got the huge heart and intelligent but he doesn't have the legs to last 90 mins. Declan Rice is underachieving too and he's got to step up.

  10. West Ham to sign £20m Bowen?published at 08:47 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

West Ham are trying to conclude a £20m-plus deal for Hull City forward Jarrod Bowen.

Crystal Palace had appeared favourites to sign Bowen, one of the most highly rated players outside the Premier League.

But West Ham, desperate to reinforce David Moyes’ squad for a battle to avoid the drop, have edged in front.

It has been suggested West Ham have arranged a medical for this lunchtime but club sources have said the deal is still not done.

  12. 'Fairytale deals are possible'published at 08:41 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

Ever wondered what it is like doing deals on deadline day? Well, you are in luck, here's Lutz Pfannenstiel, sporting director at Bundesliga club Fortuna Dusseldorf, talking to BBC World Service.

"You have to be creative in January. In our case the budget is small and you don’t have many options so you have to look behind the scenes to get in a player on loan. Sometimes you strike gold.

"I remember when I was at Hoffenheim we had a very difficult situation and had the idea to bring in Andrej Kramaric from Leicester City who turned out to be an absolute winner, helping us to stay up in the Bundesliga and we went on to sign him permanently. So sometimes there can be fairytale deals in winter."

Transfer spending by Premier League clubs in January increased from last year after two big deals were confirmed on the penultimate day of the winter window.

Manchester United have completed the biggest deal so far, signing Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon for £47m, while Sheffield United brought in Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge from Belgian side Genk for a club record fee, reported to be £22m.

With just one day remaining, the total outlay by top-flight clubs stands at £185.1m, an increase from the £180m spent last year, but a long way off the £430m record from 2018.

Stevie M: Bowen is the real deal. Every bit as good as the overrated Maddison for me. Will be a class signing for West Ham. They badly need a striker though - Lawrence Shankland [Dundee United striker] would be ideal.

Odsonne Edouard is surely the perfect fit for United??? 40 goals in 73 appearances for Celtic and he's only 22. Plus I've just seen him arrive at Manchester Airport (ok so I made that last bit up...) but if you're reading this looking for tips Mr Woodward, then he's your man!

  18. What deals could be done today?published at 08:20 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    BBC Radio 5 Live

BBC Sport's Simon Stone speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live: "I think Chelsea are tying to yank on the string of Napoli forward Dries Mertens this morning and that may be key to unlocking a few deals.

"Edinson Cavani is another one they will go after and Manchester United are also after a striker.

"A remarkable deal would be Antonee Robinson heading to AC Milan. He is Wigan's best player and only left Everton in the summer.

"It seems at the moment that English-based players are de rigueur in Italy given the number of stars that are already at Inter.

"West Ham have suddenly emerged as the suitors for Jarrod Bowen. It had looked like Crystal Palace but I think West Ham will get him."

  20. Soares heading to Arsenal?published at 08:13 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Southampton

Ben Stanfield - Total Saints Podcast

It looks set to be a quiet deadline day on the south coast, with only Cedric Soares on the move - leaving Saints to join Arsenal on loan.

Cedric, who is out of contract at St Mary’s this summer, has largely split opinion during his time at the club. Ultimately, the ‘dangling carrot’ of a loan fee has encouraged Saints to let him move on earlier.

Kyle Walker-Peters’ Wednesday arrival means it’s ‘one in, one out’ for Ralph Hasenhuttl this window, and that’s how it’s expected to now stay.
