Thanks Dawksey, guiding us through a grand total of zero Premier League signings.

The last top-flight deal was Nathan Bishop from Southend to Manchester United, and that does not really count, does it?

  2. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 19:01 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

Right, that's it from me. In my four hours in the text commentator's chair, I've overseen precisely zero Premier League incomings. You're welcome.

I'll leave you in the very capable hands of m'colleague Shamoon Hafez.

Are Crystal Palace going to sign anybody? #bbcdeadlineday, external - @Louis2006Louis, external

Palace wanted Jarrod Bowen from Hull and that's not happened.

Bowen is talking to West Ham, there's an impasse there over personal terms.

It looks at the moment as though Palace might not get the players they want - the player they want - the striker that Roy Hodgson wants.

But they're a club that's quite famous for doing late deals so I wouldn't write anything off for Crystal Palace just yet.

Any record deals expected today? - @rossbcfc3, external

At the moment it's a very quiet window. The clubs who were expected to do business - Chelsea and Manchester United - are still looking.

They're not killing it off completely but it's difficult to see at this late stage how anything will get over the line.

Even the one I liked, Antonee Robinson going from Wigan to AC Milan, I think there's a big doubt over that now. He might face the prospect of flying back to England knowing that dream move will not be happening.

It's a very quiet window, that's not what people want to hear, but that's the reality at the moment.

Is Karlan Grant going to Wolves? #bbcdeadlineday, external - @HepworthThomas, external

    No, in a word.

Wolves have already declared their business closed for the window yesterday with the arrival of Daniel Podence.

Wolves have signed Luke Matheson, a 17-year-old from Rochdale, but he's going straight back to Rochdale so that's their deadline day business.

Grant will stay at Huddersfield, although he has plenty of admirers.

Do you think Bruno Fernandes will do well at Manchester United? A lot of people say yes, but a few have said no, I personally think he will do well, what do you think? - @aguycalledcaleb, external

Bruno Fernandes needs to do well at Manchester United because United have been desperate to get him.

Last summer the club were distancing themselves form the player but Solskjaer said in his press conference on Friday morning they've been looking at him for years - so who do you believe there?

They need an attacking midfield player who's going to create chances and score goals. In theory Fernandes is the man.

It's a big step up from the Portuguese league to Manchester United, it's an even bigger step up from the Portuguese league to a United team who need him to hit the ground running.

We'll probably see the first signs against Wolves tomorrow, but there's a lot of time left in the season to assess if he'll be any good or not

Who if not Josh King for Man Utd, Simon? Any realistic chance we get a deal for a striker over the line? - @ManUtdSZN, external

Odion Ighalo is the name on everybody's lips but that seems a difficult deal to do.

We're only talking about loans so there's no buying here. With Ighalo there is the potential there as the Chinese Super League is on hold, so there may be the possibility the club may look favourably on releasing him.

We're not sure where in the world he is at the moment. If he's in China it's just not going to happen. If he's in Europe there's more of a chance of it but it's very, very late now so I would say probably not.

But it's not been dismissed entirely.

Rory, a Spurs fan: Despite making some good signings it’s SO FRUSTRATING that we don’t have another striker and we aimed for Chelsea’s third choice! That’s the reason we WON’T make top 4.

Ben Flanagan: I saw Jarrod Bowen play for Hull v Fulham a few months ago he's class and more than ready for the step up to the Prem.

  15. More on Baston to Villapublished at 18:29 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    Gareth Vincent
    BBC Sport Wales

Swansea City striker Borja Baston is set to join Aston Villa on a free transfer.

Borja, a £15.5m signing from Atletico Madrid in 2016, has struggled for game-time this season and will be allowed to leave by Swansea because of his sizeable wages.

The 27-year-old’s Liberty Stadium contract was due to expire this summer.

Borja started this campaign by scoring five goals in five matches but lost his place in Steve Cooper’s side in the autumn.

He had travelled to Preston with the rest of Swansea’s squad this afternoon ahead of tomorrow’s Championship game with Preston, but is now on his way to Villa.

Borja’s exit is likely to see under-23 striker Liam Cullen promoted to Cooper’s first-team squad.

Swansea are also expected to offload Barrie McKay on loan before tonight’s transfer deadline with Fleetwood interested in the winger.

  16. 'Fairytale deals'published at 18:27 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

    BBC World Service

As a little insight into why we're all sat here twiddling our thumbs, BBC World Service recently spoke to a Bundesliga Sporting Director on what it’s been like doing deals in the tough January transfer window.

Lutz Pfannenstielis, Sporting Director at Fortuna Dusseldorf had this to say...

"You have to be creative in January, in our case the budget is small and you don’t have many options so you have to look behind the scenes to get in a player on loan. Sometimes you strike gold.

"I remember when I was at Hoffenheim we had a very difficult situation and had the idea to bring in Andrej Kramaric from Leicester City who turned out to be an absolute winner, helping us to stay up in the Bundesliga and we went on to sign him permanently. So sometimes there can be fairytale deals in winter."

  17. DONE DEAL - Bristol Rovers sign Palace striker Dalypublished at 18:24 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2020

Must be quite rough being an AC Milan fan who is old enough to remember the late 80s and early 90s. Ruud Gullit, Marco van Basten, Maldini, Donadoni, Rijkaard.

Now they can't get a deal for Wigan's left-back over the line. And I say that with all due respect to Wigan.

Wigan Athletic defender Antonee Robinson will remain at the DW Stadium after his move to AC Milan could not be completed.

Robinson, 22, travelled to Milan this morning after the two clubs agreed a fee for the permanent transfer on Thursday evening.

The USA international underwent a medical examination with AC Milan, though further medical tests with the Italian authorities were required, which were subject to a 72-hour deadline.

As such, the deal could not be formally ratified before the 8pm Italian Transfer Deadline on Friday.
