Out come the players on a bitterly cold night at the Riverside.

There are a fair few empty red seats in the stands - unsurprisingly you might say, given the hosts haven't won since New Year's Day.

Can tonight be the night Jonathan Woodgate's men turn a corner?

Middlesbrough are winless since New Year's Day and the result of their slump is that they are now in the bottom three, in serious danger of playing League One football next season.

Tonight they have a chance to climb back out of the danger zone - a victory would lift them above Stoke, Charlton and Wigan to 19th.

It's very tight at the bottom, with just six points separating the bottom six as it stands, and only eight points separating the bottom eight, none of whom are safe yet.
