Oh wow, we could be in for a cracking final here! Arsenal almost level straight away.

Katie McCabe's excellent cross from the Gunners' left is powered towards goal by Louise Quinn's excellent header but Ann-Katrin Berger makes a super save at her far post to claw the ball away from the line. That was close.

Chelsea have never won the Conti Cup so that will be a huge motivation.

They are both quite tactical teams – no one is going to throw that heavy punch in that first 10 minutes. So far it’s quite equal.

The national anthem was loud and proud. There's a relatively sizeable turnout here - higher than anticipated - and I'd expect it will surpass this final's previous record of 5,028 fairly comfortably.

Arsenal and England midfielder Jordan Nobbs told BBC Radio 5 live sports extra:

"We're two top teams that, on our day, can beat some of the best teams in the world, so it's about performing under pressure and making sure we do that every time.

"Winning trophies is what we want to do for this club.

"The Continental Cup is one we always like to take home so it's going to be another game where it's an exciting time for the club to perform in a final and we're going out there to win it."

The match programme makes for essential reading on occasions like this, and today there are two very different messages from the managers.

Arsenal boss Joe Montemurro talks of how special the Women’s League Cup is to the Gunners. And as record five-time winners, it would be.

As for Chelsea manager Emma Hayes, she talks of the delight of finally getting to the decider! Considering Chelsea’s place as a giant of English women’s football in recent years, it is staggering to think that this is their first League Cup final!

  19. The first of multiple trophies?published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

    Chelsea v Arsenal (17:30 GMT)

Success today could be the first of many cup wins this term for whichever side comes out on top.

European quarter-finalists Arsenal can still lift four trophies this season, while Chelsea could win a domestic treble.

The Blues - who are unbeaten in the league this season - have not lost a competitive game in normal time since facing Women's Champions League winners Lyon last April.

  20. Arsenal's remarkable recordpublished at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

Of the previous eight Women's League Cup finals, Arsenal have contested seven - and won five (2011-13, 2015, 2018).

That's a pretty enviable record in a competition the Gunners have very much made their own.

Perhaps just as remarkably, today's game marks Chelsea's first League Cup final appearance - quite amazing considering they have been perennial challengers for every other trophy in recent times.
