Later, Scott Arfield scored the only goal of the game as Rangers reduced the deficit to 10 points with a game in hand, to beat Livingston in the re-arranged fixture at Ibrox.

And Greg Docherty netted one of the goals of the season as Hibernian held on to secure a thrilling victory at Kilmarnock.

Hibs continued their upturn in form with today’s 2-1 win away to Kilmarnock, but Jack Ross’ side had to stay resolute for large parts of the second half to come out on top. Speaking to BBC Sportsound post-match, the Hibs manager praised his “resilient” side.

"For the first hour we were good and given the conditions our play was excellent. In the last half hour we came under pressure and then it was about being resilient.

“It wasn’t so long ago we were in a relegation fight. At the moment all we are doing is trying to win games regularly. We have been in good form since the winter break and we've got big league games and a quarter final to look forward to.

Greg Docherty continued his impressive form since moving to the Leith club and the Rangers loanee opened the scoring with a goal of the season contender, leading to some high praise from his manager.

“He’s brought everything I expected”, Ross told BBC Sportsound. “I was fortunate enough to see him first hand last season and I was really impressed by how much he had grown as a player.

“I knew I was getting a good player and we needed his type in the group. He hasn't disappointed so far. He's enjoying his football, and long may his performance level continue.”

Kilmarnock suffered defeat for the first time in five games today after Hibs' 2-1 at Rugby Park, but manager Alex Dyer doesn't have too many complaints with his side.

Speaking to BBC Sportsound post-match, Dyer said that he "can't fault his side's efforts".

"They worked hard and gave me all they had but it wasn't to be today. There was good balls going in the box but we just need to anticipate a little bit better and take a chance.

"I cant fault their efforts. We weren't great first half, but we came up against a good side. If we had equalised and came away with a point I would've been well happy with that. It's now about regrouping, going again and trying to start another mini run."

Livingston manager Gary Holt: "I said to the players we are not going to use it [the re-arranged game after Saturday's postponement] as an excuse.

"I said: 'don't come in here after the game saying we didn't have time to prepare right, or we didn't do our usual routine'.

"The game was on, we accept that and got on with it and I think both teams went about it in the right way.

"Considering the conditions I thought it was a really good game of football. Both teams coped with the wind and rain really well. But I'm disappointed we never came away with something out of the game."

"It's something people have been getting on at me to do more often. It's probably something I do in training but not in games.

"When the ball came out to me there was one thing on my mind, I just thought to shift it onto my right foot. I thought it was going to go over, but it dipped at the last second. It was a special feeling."

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard: "We aren't firing on all cylinders at the minute so it is important that you get the over the line and we did that today but we could have done it more convincingly. Disappointed in the officials today, I must say.

"When they look back at their performance I think they will be disappointed. I think he got the second one just right, we accept that one but Morelos' one is onside and there is a stonewall penalty. It is a blatant handball.

"The referee said to Connor Goldson that he couldn't give it because of the conditions. He didn't mean it. That is new to me.

"I don't like talking about officials especially after a defeat because you can look like the violin is out or you are looking for excuses but when I think the timing is right, I must say I was disappointed in them today."
