Surprisingly enough, teams winning 4-1 at home in the first leg have progressed three times and been eliminated twice in the Champions League.

A 3-0 win would send Valencia through. Atalanta have been given a 20% chance of reaching the semi-finals.

With so many sporting events being called off or being played behind closed doors at the moment the future is very uncertain for the Champions League, the Euros, the end of the season...

Let's not get into the technical details of coronavirus - we'll leave that to BBC News, external - but I want to ask you this:

Serie A might not finish, with the Italian FA suggesting three options.

    1. Current league positions stand
    2. Play-offs to decide champions/Europe and relegation teams
    3. Call this season void

Thoughts if the same were to apply to your team's league? As a fan of play-offs in any sport I'm very much option 2...

Atalanta have scored four or more goals in five of their last 11 matches. Gian Piero Gasperini's men posted consecutive 5-0 wins against AC Milan and Parma at the turn of the year and also set a new club record with a 7-0 win at Torino on 25 January, their biggest ever in Serie A.

Jose Mourinho makes five changes from the 1-1 draw with Burnley on Saturday. Tanguy Ndombele unsurprisingly drops to the bench after being heavily critised by Mourinho for his performance in that game.

Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris, Alderweireld, Dier, Tanganga, Aurier, Winks, Lo Celso, Sessegnon, Lamela, Lucas Moura, Alli. Subs: Vertonghen, Gazzaniga, Ndombele, Skipp, Fernandes, Parrott, Walcott.

Matches in the top two divisions in Spain and France are to be played behind closed doors because of coronavirus concerns.

La Liga announced its ruling will affect the next two rounds of fixtures while the French league said fans will be banned until 15 April.

La Liga said it acted on guidance from Spain's ministry of health.

The French government announced on Sunday a ban on all gatherings of more than 1,000 people.

Barcelona's Champions League match against Napoli on 18 March will also be played at an empty Nou Camp and so will the first leg of Manchester United's Europa League last-16 tie at LASK.

Tottenham "have to give everything" to overturn their Champions League last-16 first-leg deficit at RB Leipzig, says manager Jose Mourinho.

Leipzig won the first leg 1-0 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium thanks to Timo Werner's penalty.

Spurs reached last season's final under previous boss Mauricio Pochettino.

"It is one game. We are losing 1-0 at half-time and we have a second half now to play and we go with everything we have," said Mourinho.

Steven Bergwijn - who could miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury - Ben Davies, Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Moussa Sissoko and Juan Foyth are all sidelined.

Mourinho said the injuries have stopped affecting them as much.

"We were psychologically more down with the other injuries [of Kane and Son]. When you have three, four or five, to have six or seven is the same," he said.

"I am very motivated, very calm, very positive. But if you want to imagine Leipzig without Werner, [Patrik] Schick, [Christopher] Nkunku, [Yussuf] Poulsen, [Emil] Forsberg I am pretty sure the coach [Julian Nagelsmann] would not be laughing as much as I am now."

  10. Will the Premier League go behind closed doors?published at 18:42 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Even without the outbreak of a potentially deadly illness, the English football calendar is packed. From now until the final day of the season on 17 May, there are just two midweek dates not being used for European matches that postponed games can fit into, the weeks including 22 April and 12 May.

And those dates are required for matches rearranged because of FA Cup quarter-finals and semi-finals. The FA Cup final is scheduled for 23 May and the Champions League final in Istanbul is due to be played seven days after that. Euro 2020 starts on 12 June.

The French government announced on Sunday a ban on all gatherings of more than 1,000 people.

Unless matches are allowed to be played behind closed doors, it is impossible to see how the season can finish. That would raise all kinds of issues. Everyone knows Liverpool are going to be Premier League champions. But what about the top four, relegation and promotion from the Championship?

If the season does not end, how would these matters be decided? The legal implications of relegating a team from a campaign that has not reached its conclusion are mind-blowing given the finances involved.

The decision to play tonight's match in an empty stadium comes after Spain's health ministry announced it wants to avoid "large gatherings of fans" in an effort to contain the spread of coronavirus.

With no home support, Valencia face a huge challenge to progress to a first Champions League quarter-final since 2007, with just four of 36 sides ever overcoming a first-leg deficit of three or more goals.

Fresh from a 7-2 league victory over Lecce on 1 March - their subsequent games postponed because of coronavirus - Atalanta stand 90 minutes from a first appearance in the final eight of Europe's elite club competition, after Hans Hateboer's double helped them establish a commanding lead three weeks ago.
