Bright start from the hosts as Georginio Wijnaldum and Andy Robertson work some space down the left flank, the former shop worker looks to get a cross in but there's an offside flag. Hustle and bustle.

This is a huge game - can Liverpool set the tone? It's so important that the players come out quickly at this Atletico Madrid side.

A quick weather update before kick-off: it's been dry but extremely blustery around Anfield today - and we know that Jurgen Klopp does not like wind much!, external - but the heavens have just opened as the teams prepare to come out of the tunnel.

The downpour has done nothing to dampen the atmosphere here, though. We've just had a rousing version of 'You'll Never Walk Alone'.

More from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: "It’s a complex thing tonight, we have to show a complete performance. I heard [Alvaro] Morata had some issues. Diego Costa, I saw warming up when we played there and he was like a kid, so excited to be involved in a game like this.

"We know that Atletico can be quite annoying. We can be quite annoying, so it’s a good fit for Diego Costa as well."

Jurgen Klopp has been asking for another big show from Liverpool's fans tonight in his pre-match build-up and, so far, they are responding.

The Reds fans have just upped the volume to cheer their side off after their warm-up, and kept the noise levels at 'extremely loud' when they jeered Atletico off a few moments later.

I think they know they have got a big part to play tonight, just like they did here in the second leg of their semi-final against Barcelona last season.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to BT Sport:

"We had a meeting in our hotel, my last words... I don't know, it’s really not that important. If you look at a tie like this where they win the first leg, then for 95% of the teams in the world they will think it will be tough for us tonight.

"There are a few teams with still a chance though and that’s us. We know a lot more about the opponent now and what we need to change. We have to use the atmosphere, we have to accelerate in small spaces to make big spaces and we have to do a lot of things that we are good at that we didn’t show there."

On Jordan Henderson's return: "He has looked really good in the last few days. He’s rested and full of desire to play football. It’s very important that we have a proper passing game from that position."

Around 2,800 Atletico fans have travelled from Madrid and are packed into the bottom corner of the Anfield Road stand - and they are already making themselves heard... well, they were until the Liverpool players ran out for their warm-up, greeted by an enormous roar.

With at least their next two domestic games in Spain being played behind closed doors because of coronavirus, this might be their last to see their side in action for a while, and they seem in the mood to make the most of it - they have just sung and clapped along to Liverpool's 'Allez Allez Allez' song when it was blasted out of the speakers, adding their own lyrics of course.
